Yeah man. A custom spindle. You are a mad man. All the off road fabricator companies that have fancy cnc or whatever they use hate you. I learned the hard way to put lock tight on my lower ball joint bolts . It broke off 1 of the bolts. And it popped in my driveway. I kinda felt something was wrong so i went back and forth while turning and then it popped.Cause the other 3 were missing. So I put 3 in with lock tight and since the other bolt was stuck in there. I just welded that area to the spindle

From one fabricator to another. What people don't see is the commitment to take things in and out so many times. Whether it's a motor build, to any swap... also when making a first piece to get to the final piece, man I feel ya. When building something there's this suck/pain and time of building, why do we subject ourselves to this, all for the love of creating something to use. I want to upgrade my Titan front diff and gonna think about going this route. Thanks for sharing the blood, sweat, time, and budget minded build. Hope to see bump in to you out there, From the Green sticker and plated Titan.
@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
You nailed it brother. If I was to share all the suck that came with this project, the video would have a completely different tone. I might make a part 2 detailing all the problems and roadblocks and stalls that didn't make it into this video. As far as why we do it....you got me. When I finish a project of this scale I don't even want to look at a grinder, welder, or wrench for weeks. But then I get the calling, like a sirens sweet song and end up doing it over and over again. I hear child birth is excruciatingly painful but some women have 10 kids 🤷🏼♂️

After watching the entire thing and the way that it worked out, you put a lot of thought into it. I'm curious if it ever crossed your mind. Two lower the subframe area that all of the ifs bolts to, to make room for the center carrier And if you have any input on why, that would be a bad idea from the way that you went about that, I'd love to hear it, i've been pondering, i'm building an ifs, set up myself. And this hits a lot of spots that I would like to shoot for!! Cheers man!!!
@treehouseoffroad22 күн бұрын
Yes, a drop bracket style build was my plan initially. I decided against it because I wanted all the ground clearance I could get. One thing I've noticed that all the drop bracket trucks have in common is horrendously low ground clearance. By doing it this way and moving the hub location on my spindles up a little, I'm able to keep my CV angles in check while still having a decent down travel. The limiting factor for my front setup is the upper ball joints and the tie rods at this point. Great question

First off, GREAT VIDEO!!! Out of curiosity, did you consider just cutting off the front of the Tundra and just fabricating that into your Sequoia? Seems like maybe it would have been less work? 🤔
@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
Thank you, and yes it was one of the many thoughts that ran through my head as I was trying to figure this out. My one major constraint was that this is my daily driver and I couldn't have it down for more than a weekend at any given time. So I made one spindle and put it on, then a month later the other one went on, then I went without a front diff for several months until that was done and installed, then the CV's and driveshaft.
@PeterAlfonsoАй бұрын
On the OEM front setup did you have a locker and had those issues or had no locker and still had issues up front with stock setup? Awesome work man you are super skilled.
@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
The diff failures I experienced were with the stock carrier, no locker. I did eventually install an e-locker, but then the CV axles broke. In my experience I just had to be really careful with when and where I engaged my front locker. I found having my wheels straight, engaging the locker, getting through/over the obstacle, and disengaging the locker quickly worked best. Turning with the locker engaged is extremely hard on the front axles. Hope this helps

I’ve been dreaming about doing this for years on my 1st gen Tacoma. The main thing I would do differently is get spidertrax 6x5.5 99-04 super duty unit bearings, and a custom outer cv unless there’s something gm with the right spline count. I’d want this to keep the same wheels and to get manual locking hubs
@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
Manual hubs would be cool but surprisingly I've noticed zero drag or additional fuel consumption. As far as the lug pattern I wanted to match the Tundra rear I have so 5x150 for me

Thanks man, yes I'm positive. I've rebuilt several and actually measured for myself. I was curious too bc they call the Gen1 Seq/Tundra rear an 8.4" when it's actually 8" exactly. And the Gen2 Tundra front 9" is 8.66"

@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
Good question, I'm not sure. Probably 800lb over if I had to take a wild guess
@sethlover1211Ай бұрын
@@treehouseoffroad do you think the chasis can sustain the weight under load? what about the transmission internals? is that upgraded to handle the weight? or was that already over engineered?
@treehouseoffroadАй бұрын
Chassis has been handling the extra load with no issues. 2006 Sequoia curb weight is 5,300 lb and the GVRW is 6,600, so technically it's rated to hold 1,300 lbs in/on the vehicle itself. I have not modified the transmission at all.
