1st Lady Coconut Pie ~ Acts 15 Recap Legalism vs Liberty

1st Lady's French Coconut Pie (makes 2 pies)
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 Tbls self rising flour
1 cup buttermilk
3 eggs
3/4 stick of butter melted and cooled
1 tsp coconut flavoring
a few splashes of vanilla flavoring
1 cup coconut
2 pie crust
Bake in a preheated 325° oven for 30 minutes. Then turn oven to 350° for about 6 more minutes

This is where I need some prayer...I have struggled with this issue for quite some time. Without going into too much detail...I am a Calvary Chapel family member. I love the teaching (verse by verse, chapter by chapter). The person who discipled me when I first gave my life to the Lord attended a family bible study group about a 40 minute drive from my home. My church was just a few blocks from me. I attended the bible study for about 10 years and they slowly changed their study hours so that I had to choose them over Calvary Chapel. The last year there God had been closing doors because He knew I was going to have to stay closer to home (I injured my spine and became disabled). I hated telling my bible study group (which had now become my church...for lack of a better term) that I needed to stop coming there and only go to my church because I lacked the funds to do the drive. We were like family (I mean 10 years right). When I told the entire group the pastor's wife became seriously angry and many of the people there almost refused to talk to me. It broke my heart...I love them all and I know they love the Lord but they weren't acting like Christians. I bumped into them at a pastors' conference and they literally turned their back to me giving me the silent treatment and later the pastor's wife came up to me in anger in the parking lot and said that I was going to keep going from church to church because of my lack of belief! I was in tears and even though I love her, Satan had deceived her along with a lot of the group and it grieves me. It's just so sad and I'm still having grievous thoughts about it all. None of them will listen to reason so I had to just walk away from the entire situation. Later I found that they had done the same to other members so I think I should be thankful God took me out of that situation. Sorry this was so long but I feel like I still need to forgive them but they really hurt me. I don't know. It's an issue I'm still dealing with. Thanks for letting me share. God bless!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Just remember that your heavenly Father never turns his back on you. Keep your eyes on Him, and don't give up on church! The church is made up of fleshly people who don't always act right but it is still a wonderful organization that Jesus loved. You just go and show them how to live and love like Christ. You can do this.

Yes and amen! That's what I'm doing...this happened almost 14 years ago. I'm still with Calvary Chapel and love my church family. The teaching is spot on (like you folks) and during my deep valley days when I was awaiting a disability judgement they really helped me through it all. Through that God provided for me above what I expected and I have prayed to Him a lot about this grief/forgiveness. He must have a reason for this road I'm on. Funny thing...I felt just like Lot...I mean 'what did I do Lord? Why are they questioning my belief? ' Lol! Maybe it's to keep me mindful of others' struggles so I won't do what they did. Obviously God allows trials so we can help others who go through the same thing by sharing what God has done for me. Legalism = "Christian bondage". I am so grateful the day I went from Christian bondage to Christian FREEDOM. My kids were very little, toddlers and they are now 45,46,47. And that certain former pastor's wife would just have a fit if she saw my husband's full beard 😂. She'd try to run him out of the pulpit 😂. These are the types of people that are miserable with themselves so they feel the need to come to church and stir up trouble. We have had our fair share of these in our church as well. In Matthew 23:25-26, it talks about cleaning the outside of the cup and platter, they it says clean the inside first, that the outside may also be clean.. I think as christians we need to show more love and less criticism. I am like you I am not a big coconut pie fan, but my sons and my husband are, they love my Mom's pie, I have to make it at least for CHRISTmas. PRAYERS

I agree, it's what's in your heart. We are all the children of God. If we believe in our heart we are the kingdom of God all together. But I do agree we need to follow our conviction. But we are not to judge. We become a stumbling block when we judge. This doesn't mean we should not speak the truth of the Bible when we witness. That's were reading and studying the Bible, the word of God 🙌
