Where were y'all!? I missed this show so much. I know y'all were behind the paywall, I couldn't afford it but I am so happy to be able to listen to this again

In terms of the discussion that happens at the 25:00 mark, I think, with video games as a medium in comparison to other mediums, the sequels are able to be merely iterative with more content moreso than a movie or a book can. Because a video game can have QoL (quality of life) improvements that strictly affect how the game functions when a player directly interacts with it, if there’s more content and the game does improve in that aspect, a game can be a good sequel without reinventing the formula. Generally it is better if that additional content expands on the existing gameplay in novel ways (like the Pikmin sequels). There is a limit to how iterative a game series’ sequels can be though (see what Ubisoft is currently going through). Anyways love the series, always happy to listen to more

Also, when I’ve seen pro players play (this is for the discussion at the 47:00 mark), I get the same sense as watching somebody solve a Rubix Cube. They seem to have a series of patterns locked in that they’re just hammering away at until they achieve victory.
