im only 1 year in my coffee journey as someone who used to hate coffee, finding out using whole beans is way better than preground was a game changer. last week i went from a cheap electric grinder to the kingrinder k6 and holy crap a coffee i hated became one of my favorites overnight. i cannot recommend that grinder enough. i can now actually taste what the bags tell me to expect.

I have had my K6 for just shy of a year (by 11 days) and I used it daily (4-6 shots a day) for six months. My zero-point shifted, a lot, like 19 clicks over that time. The rubber is getting loose and the O-ring that connects the lid to the handle has given out (no big deal). Now, the zero has not shifted any since then and that happened over the first few months before settling in. Functionally, it still works as it always has. I think if I were to buy another hand grinder and was going to use it heavily, I'd spend more to get better finishing so long as they were more likely to hold up over time. However, since going electric I don't use the hand grinder for anything other than travel and decaf, lol. As an aside, for pour over (which I rarely drink myself) I still reach for my C2. Idk why, I just like the way it feels better in use, lol. And I don't ever change the settings so that isn't really a concern. Anyway, I still think the K6 is a good value. I can still pull a better tasting shot if I use the K6 than I can with the ESP but the ESP is just so much more convenient. Thank you for comparing, as always and hope you are doing well!

@@mycoffeeshow111 As an update I do have a J-Ultra now and can say, that for me, it is in fact worth twice as much as the K6. It can be calibrated, the clicks are much smoother, the shaft rotates smother, the bearing is silent, and all internal parts look and feel better machined (the bearings in my K6 were really rough out of the box and slightly rusty). I feel that it is more well thought out too. It is easier to crank and faster too (not much faster but way, way easier). And much easier to take apart for cleaning. Flavor comparison wouldn't be apples to apples as I think the J-Ultra produces way, way more fines, or it seems to. More body, less clarity thicker shots. This is my preference. But I think if someone wanted more clarity, they'd go with the K not the J anyway.

@@mycoffeeshow111 Interesting. I find J-Ultra way, way easier to turn than the K6. Not as easy as the C2 but much faster with finer adjustments of course. Though the C2 is the easiest to turn that I have ever used. That said, I drink coffee on the darker end of medium at between 50-60 agtron much of the time. If I was drinking something super lightly roasted, I don't think I'd opt to hand grind at all!

The K6 & J Series share the same burr set (all arounder burr) Likewise, the K4 & K Series grinders share a burr set (more suited for espresso). Backstory is Kin Grinder created by prior 1zpresso individuals. Grinders are more than just a burr set, so can yield unique results. Fit & finish may make for a more pleasant experience, thus a more pleasing cup 😊

This is the comparison I was looking for. I have a K6 but I have a hard time to dial into it and find the sweet spot for the v60. I think there's a lot of fines maybe? And last week it started to smell like burned rubber. I tried cleaning it but the smell still there. I got both and there are basically no difference for pour over coffee. Anyone who claimed can tell the differences are joking. From a basic scientific perspective the grind size is going to be within margin of error from adjustments. And people kept saying clarity, sweetness, sour criticness, etc etc like tasting wine... To be real not far before people will say rubber, wood bark, and dog poop taste.

@@RaymondLo84 you might be right. Or not. We would need proper scientific tests to prove that. Not sure if you believe in burrs seasoning, but if you do, we would have to compare those grinders at the same stage of that process, with the same rpm and exactly the same recipe, repeated for at least 100 times.

For 18g in 45g out in 25-30 seconds with the default Profitec basket and light roasted coffees im around 2.7-3.1. Im sure my shots still far away from perfect so that wont mean that much. I use a plastic v60 02 with Cafec Abaca filters (I really like those filters for everything). K ultra settings for me: Feel free to increase or decrease ratios by 1 and pours to match your taste Dark: "1/14 Ratio" 6.5 - 7/ 185F-195F/ 5 equal pours. Medium: "1/15 Ratio" 6 - 6.5/ 195F-205F/ 5-6 equal pours. Light: "1/16 Ratio" 5.5 - 6.2/ 205F - 212F/ almost always 6 equal pours. Make sure to calibrate the zero point every few days. My K ultra grounds were good from the start, but it is getting insanely even grounds with almost no fines after using it for a few months. These are good grind and temp starting points, but do what you think tastes best, some light roasts tasted best with a 4 minute extraction to me. I don't know if it's wrong or right, but it tastes the best. So it's right for me.
