Awesome job on the door. Love your content, been watching for ten years now! Been thinking about your question about the window shape since I watched yesterday- I think it would make the most sense to do an arch shape to tie it in with the windows you just made and installed. Especially with one right above it, they will compliment each other. As far as color of the glass I really like that idea of the amber colored glass you mentioned. If you wanted to bring some metal work into the project the amber and copper would really compliment each other nicely.

Find a nice twisted branch with a good bow of the proper size for the door for a handle. Peel it and trim the ends to lie flat aganst the door. I have used this and it looks pretty cool.

My first house had the original wood windows in it, the top of the window was inlaid with two pieces of vertical trim to make a three paneled window. I liked the look of those. A big piece of twisted square bar with some little offsets tacked on would be a good match for the size and function of the door.

Good to see you working on something different! I'm so sorry you got hurt, please get help next time. I'm envisioning a stain glass sunflower about 15x15, and I know you said painting the door bit have you considered staining it so the dark and light stains pop, a sort of greywash effect. With a rounded oval of sunflower with muted color of green, yellow and clear around the outer edge. The door would look old fashioned. And beautiful!

I enjoy the content thoroughly. My option would be a round window or square on a 45 degree style. The trim would be sympathetic to the door frame and I would definitely like coloured glass with either dimple or any design that wasn't flat plain glass. Stained glass would be beautiful, but a workshop could spit out a chunk of something that would smash it, so I would opt for coloured glass.

Great job. I enjoy watching you build. Q: I noticed that the end grain (growth rings) are all in the same direction when you glued the boards for the door. I was told to alternate the growth rings up/down when mounting boards together for stability. (Yes, I was a Norm Abram fan) Will the bracing panel you built and attached do the same thing? You did mention it cupped while the glue dried. Garage sales and flea markets are a great place to find used hardware. Could find a handle cheap. Also, don't forget you'll need something on the inside of the door where you can slide the door open while also missing the wall. Something I missed when I installed a barn door.
@GirlsWithGuitars6 ай бұрын
Great catch! My dad was a carpenter/cabinet maker. He always alternated the rings 1 up, 1 down to avoid cuping.

Sending healing vibes your way. I dropped an old growth 2x4 on my pinky toe. It was maybe a 24” dense piece of wood. Using it as a window prop, because the last owner took all the window weights out. I’m currently restoring the windows. I was going to go to bed too. Just closing the window for the night. It’s been a week and a half or so and it’s still so swollen. Getting injured sucks. Feel better.

It's so proportioned like Craftsman-era doors in Seattle that you walking up to it makes you look like a kid because it's so big, right? and it's like "mooooooooooom! can i have a snaaaaack?" xD It looks great though I think it's really nice. I wasn't getting the not-to-corner bevels until I saw it basically together but then it made perfect sense.

21:04 Would a flower box below the door window cause a problem with its functionality of everyday use? It would look nice and cover the empty space below the window.
@natej66716 ай бұрын
Awesome door construction. If the window is for letting light in, I'd made it as large as possible with about 3-1/2" clearance on all sides. If its for looks, I'd make a skinny glass panel in the center to accent the door that's small enough so that someone can't crawl through if they were trying to break in.

I think stained glass would look nice in the door. With the character of the 3 panels and the way the routed edging is I think some version of stained glass (be it 1 pane or more) would look amazing. However you choose to go I don`t think it`ll be a bad choice. Great series!

My suggestion. Add 2 more vertical wood pieces on the upper part of the door to match the lower part of the door. Then, instead of 3 upper panels it would be 3 vertical stained glass windows. (The additional 2 wood pieces would be optional)

Would you consider it corny to use something like a drawknife for a handle? It’s the same vain as the wrench but appropriate for the building. If so my vote would be some kind of basic old brass handle and a basic window because if it’s not decorative I’d want it to look “extremely functional”.
