Thanks Marty for the shout out and more importantly showing me the correct way to change a tire on the Tesla for the next time. Your way was by far the best example of how to easily get to the wheel with the least bit of hassle. Don't you just love that sound of the V2 with that tire on?? I definitely want to get some spiked petals so I will check that video out next. I appreciate you linking my channel btw.

Great video, als always, Marty! Yeah, the „old days“.....when all our 16inch wheels had 2.125 inch tires...or even less(V8 sometime 1.95inch). The 18inch -even in the old days- all had 2,5 inch tires allready....its just that there only where such few 18inch at all, haha.... Only 2 , i guess? or 3....if you count the 195wh solowheel in :-) So what a good time now, with so much choice!

Regarding the duct tape that Gotway uses to secure the two shells, it is located directly under the main board, on the 'top' of the wheel (not on the wheel side, but on the control board side of the shell halves). I've found that it's not hard to get access to. Once you remove all the shell screws, there are two little screws with large washers (right side of the wheel, in the battery compartment) that hold the two bottom corners of the control board. If you remove those two small screws, the board slides out of a 'tray' it sits on, and you can leave it secured by all of the wires to the motor etc. The duct tape can now be easily peeled away from the shell halves. I think the duct tape serves to keep any water that gets through the gap between the two shell halves, from making its way up to the control board (for those of us in wetter climates). I like to replace the duct tape with a new piece after I open up my Tesla V2, just for the peace of mind; I also have the 1500Wh version and have found that although the bottom of the duct tape can get a small line of dirt on it from the gap between the shells, nothing makes its way past the tape and up into the control board area.
@ElectricUnicycles3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Keep in mind quality control is non-existent in the Gotway factory. "My" Tesla had the duct tape inside the wheel well. It doesn't surprise me at all that yours was some place else :-)

Tyres have a lifespan (expiry date) of about six years from date of manufacture. There is a four digit number on the sidewall. The first two digits denote the week of manufacture, the last two digits denote the year of manufacture. Rubber degrades, becomes hard/brittle, even without use, probably through oxidation, heat, UV light etc. Rubber tubes and rubber patches probably have a similar lifespan. Might not be worth patching tubes to save on cost of a new tube. So much cost in terms of effort, time, hassles etc in getting to the tube, it might be better to just replace it with a new fresh tube which hopefully has the maximum six year lifespan. A failure could result in just a long walk, another repair, to rapid deflation and loss of control. Great vid, look forward to the next ones, thanks.

I've patched lots of tires. This is the first one that has failed and it was my mistake. Thanks for the comment but it's not something I worry about. Besides, using Slime auto-fixes most of my flats.

Ok. Have had a tube deflate during a ride. Didn't know until going around a bend, nearly crashed, and that was at low speed. Had two tubes with leak at junction of valve stem and tube. Look forward to next vid, thanks.

Heya is there a reason why you did not convert to tubeless? I have had no issues since converting my mten 3 to tubeless and it's far more stable.
@ElectricUnicycles3 жыл бұрын
I've rarely seen a successful tubeless conversion. Most EUCs rim's and associated tires don't support it.
@frederickoparah16693 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricUnicycles okay cool maybe I got lucky, but interestingly enough the difference between a tubeless tire and a tubed tire is the tubless tire has an impregnated air tight solution of some sort. So for tubed tires you need to use a tubeless sealant. I have had no issues and I followed your guide, I honestly hope i can apply this to other wheels because tubes are really poor to use.

@18:22 Looks like slime disolved the patch. Been there myself and made a post on the forum not to mix patch and slime.
@ElectricUnicycles3 жыл бұрын
I'm not convinced. If this were true then why hasn't Slime dissolved all the other patches that I've used? Slime is water based and I don't think it has any solvents. How could it dissolve a patch?
@bigbadboogie68423 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricUnicycles equal solves equal. When it comes to "water based", inwould say slime is very careful bout telling exact ingredients, but seemingly most sealants contain glycol if googling a bit - i.e. this manufacturer tells a bit more about the basic chem of tyre sealants www.nomorepunctures.co.za/technical/how-tyre-sealant-works Why not before? Hard to say without physical test with the same product, but pressure, temp usually plays a role...and of course affected surface area. At least your patch looked very similar to mine, goey edges on the red rubber. For sure not due to insufficient vulk agent as that would not have made the rubber softer and for sure not goey :-) I don't use slime on my EUCs, but zefal so miles may vary, but i have NEVER seen a goey patch on any bicycle i have had (i never used slime on bicycles) for 40 something years :)
@westcoastdoc3 жыл бұрын
Any advantage or reason to convert to tubeless like you did with the mTen3?
@ElectricUnicycles3 жыл бұрын
It's extremely difficult to convert larger wheels to tubeless. The rim on the Mten3 supports tubeless conversion. Most (if not all) regular EUC rims don't support tubeless without great difficulty. I have no experience there.
