I can't believe you disconnected the battery like that! OMG!
@GenesisOasis
@GenesisOasis 5 ай бұрын
That's actually a safer way to disconnect the battery ribbon cable lol, even dankpods disconnects it like that. Just make sure to also push down on the brown tab with a tweezer or something while using your other hand to pull the ribbon cable up with another tweezer. Using this method, you're less likely to rip the battery connector off the motherboard.

Even doing this on my 5.5 I get a boot loop on the latter part of the restore, did you get a boot loop before you got it to work?
@Northern_Sea
@Northern_Sea 3 жыл бұрын
@@grahammcdonald No, I didn't have a boot loop. Just bad connection from iPod's board to adapter when I closed the case. I've heard lately that some users have been experiencing boot loops after restoring iPod. Somebody discovered that red SD adapter distorts first bytes of MBR on SD in the process and fixed it by editing first bytes of SD's MBR directly on PC through a card reader. Saw this info in /r/ipod on reddit.

I had same issue and tried for almost an hour, trying to fit the cable to the CF adapter multiple times, and then came across this video. The trick as mentioned in this video is to insert the cable only so much that the first white line is just visible and then close the latch. In my case the connection was still not tight enough so finally used some tape on the flex cable to get a tight fit. Thanks to this guy who made the video. I was almost convinced that the board is faulty.

The thing difference Between iflash and the generic cf card $30(considering shipping too ) I had the same issue with my IPod Classic with menu button issues . I thought the problem was the cheap Chinese adapter and went for the Iflash . Apparently the problem was with the menu button . The zif tab on the generic one is not strong enough what I did is i used a thin layer of micropore tape on to the zif cable to get a snug fit .

Considering getting this solution actually as I have a 6th 120GB and recently acquired a 5.5 80GB and the iFlash is quite hard to find in my country without having it shipped internationally to the point I may just as well buy an already refurbished iPod.
@hashrulsubzero
@hashrulsubzero 2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely try out the iFlash SD Adapter cards but the shipping price to ship it all the way to Southeast Asian countries is expensive (a bit more the cost of a faulty iPod sold on second hand websites). Of course it will be worth the money. 😅 For now, I try with those cheap adapters first on my recently purchased iPod 6th Gen as my first time modding an iPod.

I have an unusual zif connector I pulled out of a 60 gig fifth gen. It seems to be about three times the thickness of a standard connector. With that connector, Every single cheap board I plug into it works. I'm currently using it on my iFlash mSata.its a really tight fit, but once it's on, it won't go anywhere.

It took me hours to know about the installing of the ribbon cable just out a tiny bit, wish I'd have seen this vid sooner. This has made it work reliably on my 5. I have 2x 5.5 and they just boot loop when the restore nears its end. Also, when restoring I get an error on the mac and I have to pull the usb out as it just hangs. But replugged in the white bar in the iPod rises and then it's fine: Your yanking out of the battery cable made me wince. The brown part should be lifted upwards gently with tweeters of you risk the battery ribbon snapping off. (You probably knew this though)
@grahammcdonald
@grahammcdonald 3 жыл бұрын
Ok saw your newer vid. I get what you mean about pulling out the battery, though if the ribbon is folded and weak it will bread (mine did). The 1460 error.. interestingly I get that, but if I unplug and plug in, then it continues and works.

i got this recently for my 5th gen and it took some doing to get it to work because the latch was too loose but that's not a problem anymore, the problem is that i can only get it to work on an old ibook i got which restores it to software version 1.1.2, which is fine but i can't put videos on it for whatever reason. When i try restoring it in windows to version 1.3 it gets stuck in recovery mode no matter how many times i try.

I have a 1st generation iPod mini. The hard disk is dead and the old owner has broken the battery socket in the mainboard, it needs to be re-soldered. Since the hard disk wants higher energy, it does not turn on when it is batteryless and connected to the PC charge. If I insert a cf card in this ipod, can I use it on charge or on the philips dock?
