Two suspects who bailed out of a fleeing vehicle and hid in a body of water in Deltona got a ride in an airboat after VSO deputies and FWC officers tracked them down with the help of Air One and K-9 units.
The Nissan sedan fled from deputies twice late Wednesday night in Deltona, the second time at an estimated 65 mph in a 35 mph zone. A deputy spotted it turning down a dead-end road with its lights off, then coming to a stop at 765 Barger Drive after striking a parked vehicle there.
The driver and a passenger took off running while a female passenger stayed behind. Deputies set up a perimeter and began searching the area.
From overhead, the Air One crew spotted two suspects hiding in the water just northwest of the bailout location.
FWC responded with an airboat to help bring both suspects back to dry land. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office also provided Alert One to assist while Air One was refueling (thank you!)
A firearm with an extended magazine and Glock switch was recovered from the Nissan, as well as a .22 Uzi pistol found inside a backpack that was discarded at the scene.
The driver, Hylan S. Hill, 23 (DOB 5/7/2001), Deltona, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a machine gun, resisting arrest without violence, and driving with a suspended license. He is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bond on the machine gun charge.
Edward L. Ross, 24 (DOB 4/8/2000), Lake Helen, was charged with resisting arrest without violence, tampering with evidence, possession of cannabis, and violation of probation (no bond).
The female passenger who was initially detained was released without charges.
