Just to offer another perspective/simplification Under front, wrap needle counterclockwise with the back Return needle from Under the front (like normal knitting) Under the back, wrap needle ccw with the front Return the needle from under the front (like purling) Repeat. You're basically knitting the color on your index finger to the front and treating the other color as an already existing stitch that you're knitting through, then purling the color on your thumb to the backside of your work and the index finger color is the "preexisting" stitch that you're purling through. So again, Knit "through" the thumb color Purl "through" the index color Repeat.

It works, but when you asked on 80 stitches for a beanie, it’s completely twists on the cable. What do you do?

I use a normal needle to cast on and after that I switch to the circular (cable) needle.

Unfortunately no, not exactly. That was a design prototype that eventually morphed into the Hypatia cowl, which was originally published in Pom Pom magazine and is now available as a stand-alone pattern in my Ravelry and Payhip stores. However, Hypatia is a mixture of double knitting and double stranding (aka marling), where the prototype was only double knitting.

No, they’re definitely different, but they both work beautifully with an Italian cast on. Double knitting creates two layers of fabric, typically stockinette stitch with the purl sides facing one another. Basic 2-color brioche is a type of ribbing where all the columns of knits are one color and all the purls are another color. I have tutorials for both techniques on my channel, if you’re interested in learning more!
