😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

The Lincoln Highway opened in 1861??? it was compiled in1913 and at was not completely paved until 1935. Up to then it was just a muck road in wet weather. The completion of the transcontinental telegraph in October 1861 made the Pony Express obsolete.

HWY 50 WARNING, don't do what I did, Traveling the loneliest road late at night! Repeat "Do Not Travel Late at Night"!? I did this in reverse, started in Carson City (lived there a year), finding the Casinos open 24/7, but the gas pumps are shut down in towns after 10/11PM. I saw less than handful of vehicles the whole 400 + miles. At one point on vlog, Chris mentioned a small 🦌 deer crossed Infront of Trudy. For my late night driving, I did not see until it was too late up a Mountain pass, I hit an antelope. It was over a hour, when a car coming in the opposite direction, slowed down and stopped to help pull the antelope off the road. He was a doctor, and followed me to Ely, making sure my car made it alright. The next morning, my car was towed to Salt Lake City, where it took 3 weeks to be properly repaired. Everything, mentioned in this vlog is totally true driving the loniest road in America (grasshoppers buggy, etc). While living in Nevada I got onset Asthma really bad while living there. Therefore, I had to leave the state for health reasons. Never had any type of Asthma before Nevada, or since then. Oh growing up in the country with dense forests, we did in the fall had mice wanting to enter buildings for warmth, out of the cold. So we, would fill a mouse traps with cheese 🧀. Never have I trapped a mouse with chocolate? Wishing best travels ahead?👍🚐🌞

So, those were Mormon Crickets you saw. You're suppose to report any infestations of them so they can decrease their population so they don't get out of hand. I think I'll keep one of those live catch mouse traps on board in case I were to get any little visitors. Loved your lonely road trip. Good try with the giant burger. I'm enjoying your photos on Instagram, can't wait for the Alaska videos. Have a great week ahead, take care

Just a heads up, Yosemite gets PACKED during the summer. If you sleep outside the park, you have to leave really early because the parking lots inside the park fill up really fast. It gets refrigerator cool when you're near the falls, so bring a sweater.

Looks like your route will bypass Wyoming (Yellowstone National Park, which will probably still be closed due to flooding) and South Dakota (MT Rushmore, CrazyHorse Memorial the Blackhills and Badlands National Park). You do have Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota…which has smaller „badlands“. Plenty of wild horses, Buffalo and antelope. And the best thing is that it‘s located right off the interstate in Medora North Dakota. Safe travels…Cheers

This was an amazing drive. The white sandy areas your saw would be white Allaline silt. Ancient lake beds call playa. A couple of years or so ago my son took me to Nevada. We had 12 days living on the playa in the Black Rock Desert at Burning Man. Words fail to describe the experience. But standing on the playa in the dawn of the day before most people arrive. A memory of a life time. Nothing, nothing near like it in New Zealand!

Just a suggestion, though you may already be aware of this--when you drive the northern highway into Alaska, I would recommend looking into some protection against the flies/flying insects (I hope that your van has screens that can attach to your panel door).

I'm originally from San Francisco, California (am now living in London UK with my wife!) If you're planning to visit Yosemite National Park, on the way towards San Fran is a place called Manteca which is essentially in the middle of the state, (where we both lived for years with my father before he retired back to australia!) Within the city is a famous place to visit called Bass Pro Shops, (it's anything to do with fishing, camping, sports gear, the place is quite interesting to visit & has a lot of little things you wouldn't necessarily expect, even a vat full of fish & stuffed animals... bears, wolves, foxes etc... it has everything, boats, shoes, shirts, jackets...) there is also a nice place to eat nearby called Red Robin & a cinema, (might be the perfect opportunity for you 2 to experience an american movie theatre with Maverick or Jurrasic Park!) I'll send you guys off an e-mail as there are a few places my wife & I can recommend! Cheers! :-)

Yes, in California's Manteca, I have been to that Bass Pro Shop, as well to many Bass Pro shops across the US. Many do have nearby Red Robin's & Movie lounge theater that are also serving lunch & dinner meals, while watching a movie. Best Bass Pro Shop is inside a Pyramid 3 or 4 story structure on the shoreline of the Mississippi in Memphis TN.(Elvis Country)!

A bit of information that most people are not aware of with regard to Nevada, this western state has vast deposits of Lithium ore. As you might know Lithium is used in batteries for cameras, iphones, laptop computers and hybrid/electric vehicles. Also, Nevada has one of the largest gold mines in the country near Winnemucca, Nevada!

Americas long roads are beautiful in their own way, you have time to reflect and quite frankly take a break from the hustle and bustle of city driving, talk about boondocks but not recommended to drive them alone, you can easily fall asleep, the arrow on the fed ex vehicles stands for speed and accuracy, not many know it’s there, the new logo was created when they shortened their name from federal express to Fed Ex.

I’ve driven that route 2 times. If you do it, make sure you stop to get gas every chance you get. There are some stretches that are hundreds of miles between gas stations. If you break down, you are waiting a long time for any help, so bring some basic survival type of supplies (lots of water, food, shelter outside of the vehicle, sun protection, and wildly varying weather). Oh, and watch out for low flying military aircraft. They like to use cars on that highway as “virtual practice targets”. Ask me how I know. 😂

There used to be a few places in the West Midlands that had food challenges. Mad O'Rourkes spring to mind with their Desperate Dan pies. That burger looked tasty but it really was too big. Whenever I see the roads in America (I watch some nomad channels), I often wonder if the Romans got there before us with their long straight roads.

Love your travels! We moved to Nevada from England several years ago. Great to see you enjoying our State. I grew up in Australia and have traveled coast to coast. I went to England to work and see relatives and stayed. We traveled all through Europe. Great to see such a lovely couple who enjoy each other and travel so much. On the Pony Express, it went broke! The telegraph came to the West in 1861, and then the coast to coast train in 1868. The train was the main means of travel until the Lincoln and other highways were paved after the WW1. If you come back Stateside we would love to show you around our part of Nevada, or meet in the North at Virginia City! Virginia City is the American West!

We have driven that hiway several times and find the scenery exceptional in it's own way. The sandy white scenery you see off in the far distance is most often a dry lakebed. The dust tornadoes are known as dust devils. They are very common along that hiway.

Some great rock scenery along that road highlighted even more by the blue sky and that restaurant in the middle of nowhere really was something else!! I remember some years ago in Poland, a van overtaking me and the entire passenger side was caved in, window smashed plus part of the windscreen. It was streaked with blood all over the damaged area and down the side of the van and as it was along a forest road I knew immediately he'd been hit by a deer tho' obviously a fully grown one. I remember feeling relieved it hadn't been me as my van was RHD.

Had to explain the segue path to Mrs. P. of how one gets from antler arch to "Peek-a-boo". 😆😆 For the Brits reading this, the backwards peace sign only counts out the side windows while overtaking other cars because of the awkward positions needed to do it palms-out. 🤣🤣 Most of us Americans won't know what flicking Vs means, but it's probably universal that any back-handed hand gesture feels rude when face to face! 🤣🤣 Afraid I have to correct your history lesson on the Pony Express -- it was the completion of the transcontinental telegraph line that made it unprofitable (if it ever was), and then then the Transcontinental Railroad that made it obsolete. The Lincoln Highway was 50 years later. Nothing pekes my curiousity like a bunch of people saying a place has "no points of interest." It's so rare to find a spot outdoors that is *absolutely silent*. And I love the little towns dotted along state highways. ❤️❤️😎👍xx

400 miles can easily be done in a few hours. I drive 450 after working a 12.5 hour shift in order to get home. It takes about 6-7 hours depending on the speed limits and traffic.

It looks like you could have come across a big cicada hatching. Those things just spent 13 or 17 years buried in the ground as a grub. Love seeing the States thru your eyes! Thanks for bringing us along. 😊

You should get a TSD card. Good at Love’s, flying J, Pilot and TA truck stops. It will save you quite a bit on diesel when you fill up. I think it is good anywhere including the ones in Canada. Great video. That is on my bucket list to do.

I do hope that when you get to Australia, that you do the Nullabor Road....it's incorporated from Perth, Western Australia to Ceduna South Australia and you can drive from the West to the East coast using this road and it's fabulous, you drive thru many road houses and you can't miss THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN BITE, Its so magically beautiful and very quiet except for waves... and you think fuel is Expensive over there, wait till you get here in Oz, it's currently $2.29 a litre (not a Gallon) but enjoy the rest of the US ❤

I’m so happy you did Highway 50. I have very fond memories of that drive. Just one little quibble… it is pronounced “neh VAA duh “ with an “a” like “cat.” But since Americans love your accent they probably didn’t mind..Note that the geography is called Basin and Range. There is a good book on the subject by John McFee.
