Hello Jack. Just surfing the Net & got your vid. Rather interesting & you picked one of the most beautiful location in WA. Well done indeed. We're three sisters whom have being outdoors for decades & learned that Mother Nature is so beautiful, it also has its challenges when & where, once you've conquered it then you are at One with it. It will serve you well. It's a journey full of adventures that will widen your horizon. But there are rules too that you will learn along the way. We are all still learning.! In our adventures we learned, apart from breathing in the toxic fumes, there are other consequences lighting a fire inside a tent. Always prep your kit to the seasons. You could have fill your water bottle with hot water & put it in your sleeping bag. Even better carry a hot water bottle. Having a good mat for your sleeping bag is awesome but you can also increase its insulation by having a ground sheet for your tent. It's advisable to use Hiking Boots, if you prefer sneakers it's best to use High Tops (ankle high). If on an overnight, we much prefer a Minimalist Kit. Your Backpack looks heavy, it feel heavier going up that incline. You did it though, perseverance is the key to any survival situation & it enhance your confidence. Wool socks would be a great addition including wool underclothes. Never sleeps in the clothes you hike with, you will feel cold due to sweats. In time you will tweak & fine tune your set-up. Good luck Jack. Congrats you've got a new sub from Christmas Island. Do you have an email.?

Good on you for getting out there and having a go. Camping & hiking doesn't have to be super expensive, just make wise choices. Many of the things I was going to say have already been in the comments eg R-values, warmer rated bag etc. There are also a few cheap but good bits of kit you can pick up on websites like Ali Express, TEMU etc but also you don't want to scrimp on the important things like warmth when sleeping. Avon Valley National Park, Julimar Forrest & Toodyay hills were my childhood stomping grounds and there are some really magnificent places for camping and hiking out that way. Happy to share some ideas if you want! Keep it up!

So refreshing to see some local content like this - see so much coming out of the epic national parks in the US but I'm sure Perth has plenty to offer as well
@jackkermode4 ай бұрын
Very underrated these national parks around Perth. I wonder if its to do with marketing / tourism being focussed in the south west. Or perhaps the lack of major cities / towns inland from the CBD around us limits passers through.

Tip for staying warm on those chilly winters nights, check the R value on your sleeping mat. An insulated mat will go a long way to keeping you warm. Aim for at least an R rating of 5. The higher the number the warmer you'll be. Camped atop Mt Cuthbert recently, very picturesque. Subbed
@jackkermode4 ай бұрын
Yeah great tip- my sleeping mat definitely needs an upgrade for the winter months my back was freezing. Mount Cuthbert is on my list! How did you find it? Legend thanks for the comment.
@middlo2 ай бұрын
@@jackkermode Totally agree with this comment, cheap sleeping bag will get you through with enough clothes but the portion of a sleeping bag that under your body is crushed and provides little or no insulation. An insulated sleeping mat will go a long way to helping, not cheap but worth it for winter camping. It sux waking up so cold you cannot get warm mate, been there.

Hey mate-honestly I’m not sure, along the river there seemed to be a lot of places to camp some marked and some unmarked- my philosophy really is as long as I leave no trace it’s okay. That being said promoting it is a bit dangerous as it leaves the door open to people who may do the wrong thing. Thanks for the support and comment 🙏

Looking forward to seeing more videos from you. What kinda of camera set up are you running?
@jackkermode3 ай бұрын
Never had any trouble with rangers and I’m like 90% sure you can camp in these national parks as none of them state you can’t - they usually do when they don’t want you there. A lot of the tracks you can find will never be caught by rangers as there is no one out there particularly in winter. I use a GoPro hero 10 🙂
