What book is that? That was an amazing passage ❤ it describes precisely how I feel and what I've been saying. My husband rolls his eyes when I get so upset by "development" and my neighbors think I'm a little crazy when I defend the random cougars and coyotes that come wandering through, and feed as many birds, squirrels, rabbits and possums as I can. But this is why....we are on THEIR land...we built in THEIR space. And that's all there is to it...pretty simple I think.

To answer your question I would never wish you to slog anywhere or diminish your enjoyment one bit of any of the trips you undertake, one of your many talented attributes is your decision making and again due to conditions associated with both the weather and trail conditions you were right to stay on a lake that was producing some wonderful hard fighting lake trout. Well done Jon, also your comment about the trashed campsite was heartfelt, it really does worry me sometimes what our species is heading towards when people can leave their crap like that in such a beautiful and pristine eco-system.

To your question, when you are bushwhacking, pushing the limits, searching for that unmolested paradise, there is an element that pulls the viewer in that is unique. What will you find, how beautiful will it be, how difficult the challenges, how great the reward? But even on your least strenuous trip you capture the sublime nature of the places you go and it is mesmerizing. Which type of trip do we prefer? So my answer is no answer. You never fail to amaze with your ability to film, narrate, and edit these videos sir! I think when the trip is this short, staying on one lake and campsite was the best choice, plus such great fishing and wildlife sightings! Fun as it is to watch you portage through the bush as part of your trips, think that is better suited to when you are out for a longer period of time. As for paying higher taxes or fishing and hunting license fees, for improved protection services? Until I watched a reality series called 'North Woods Law', I would have said no. Then I saw the efforts being made by those conservation officers to provide better protection and preservation of nature. So yeah, if the money was well spent, it would be acceptable.
@Barret-paddles2 жыл бұрын
No slogging! It is a pleasure to watch you enjoying yourself and nature. On the opposite scale, the litter and trashing of camp sites never fails to boggle my mind. I just don't get it and never will so conservation officers would be great but I would not want to do that job fearing for safety. I was struck by how useful the double blade paddle is espcially in such a tough head wind. What a difference/game changer in those conditions Jon. 👍 Thanks as always! 🙏💜B

Most of us have experienced the slogging, buggy, leg slapping, drudgery of portaging. It's just as much fun on the screen as it is in person. What I do love, is fishing. I troll a lot in my kayak and pay attention to the lures you are using. It's also refreshing for me to see you fish the streams and smaller water, as I often did in my youth. Camp setup and various new products are interesting as well. Simple sightseeing is also great. I also enjoy historical insights as well as your explanations of correct topographical map use. I do miss the interaction with Erin, although I'm sure you miss it more. Great video and sound quality. Keep up the good work.,

You're showcasing well the beautiful landscape that Ontario has to offer! Well done! BTW I live in Alberta and use the eastern slopes of the Rockies lots and this actually causes me to want to explore Ontario a bit! Big brookies are cool but so is the landscape. All you need to do to kill quick is stick a knife in the gils and bleed it out, it dies quickly and with no pain, remove the guts and the fish tastes better. Also if you tip your trout upside down they'll settle down and you won't have to put the big squeeze on them. Thanks dude!!

Meaning, there’s time for a slog of the goal seems tempting enough, but not all the time. (And for soap, birch leaves contain some saponie and make a pretty good scrub as well.) Thanks for all the good content, and keep on shaming the trash.

That paragraf there says it all. When I was a child we had a small cabin in the mountains. We asked dad if he could go together with the others who had cabins there as well, to create a dirt road up to these cabins. Our dad said: "Yes, he could, but he wouldn't", because that hour struggle to get to the cabin, was as important to getting to the cabin, as it was to be at the cabin. After awhile we got use to walking for an hour to the cabin, that it became not just a trip to the cabin, but also all the scenary, smells and sounds on the way. If he made a road, we would've missed all that, just for comfort. So as an adult now, I see these "cabins" here in norway, where people have made dirt roads all the way up to the door of their "cabins", well it's no longer those old traditional cabins any more, it's villa's and mansions up in our mountains and in nature and that pisses me off so much. We are getting more and more detached from our surrondings that we are no longer apart of it all. Sorry for coming off so negativ.

In answer to your 'slog vs stay' question, you did exactly as i would have wanted to see. You trudged through to see what was at the other end, weighed your options and shared your thoughts with us, then returned to paradise. Your thinking process helps us all weigh our options. Sometimes I think we feel compelled to keep pushing, but seeing the mighty Jon backtrack might make it easier for me to do the same down the road in a similar situation. Btw, I just did a weekend road trip from London to Thunder & back (left Thursday & was home Saturday night) to pick up my canoe I bought a couple months ago. I have fished & camped Capreol to Shining Tree to Chapleau and all areas in between extensively, but Superior is on another level. Breath-taking. Thanks a lot George! Happy I stayed this time, but I'm sure I'll be back for those other lakes :)

I hear you on the trashing of wilderness, beginning of the month I did 3 days down the Manistee river in Michigan, came upon a DRIVE in site with garbage all in the fire pit including a dirty diaper!?!!? I was outraged, who does that when you have access with a car when you leave that mess behind!?! Thanks for the wonderful views in this video!

Crazy, someone can always bury trash if you absolutely can’t burn it or take it with you. A lot of ways are better then just leaving it

Loved your comment about filet vs butterfly for a small fish meal. Makes sense. Never thought about it that way. Excellent video!

To answer the slogging question, I’d rather watch ya slog it out! That’s what I’m here for haha. Hope you go back to that little brook trout pond, would love to watch that video.

Hahah that's what excites me too. The ideal scenario is to slog and THEN get to a lake like this

I really enjoy the variety of your videos. No one bushwacks like you, but this was so pleasurable to watch. I felt like I was on the trip with you. Excellent videography, keep the adventures coming!
