Holy crap you guys, you can knock out a ton of wood in such a short time. One of the fastest and most efficient operations on KZbin these days I think. Phil, that hopper works so well. And Karen I think Russ is right, you're one of the hardest working women in the Wood Hound World. Love to watch you both.

With 2 splitters going and making boiler wood it goes fast . We put a lot of thought into the best way to set up this new equipment along with the old equipment to make it as productive as we could . Yup Karen’s no slouch she’s always ready to jump in and get it done . She’s really liking that new axis and conveyor set up . We still have some changes to make to make it go smother but we will get it done .

That’s all it takes is one acorn and them tree huggers say cut em down happens every yr at this time . I went back and got 2 more loads yesterday and got it all cut up . Probably wait till I get 10 cord or so cut up into rounds and we will fire the splitters back up so we can get next yrs boiler wood outa the way . The oak has been coming in faster than we can process it so we need to get to it .

Great video guys. You work well together. You both have great work ethic. I noticed that the oak seems to bounce a little more when Buster is splitting it compared to the pine. You have a great system in place now that you have the other splitter. I can't wait to see all the wood stacked on your pallets in the near future. Hopefully you'll continue to get enough logs to keep things running smooth with minimal breakdowns that will slow you down. Luckily you seem to have a spare piece of equipment just in case something does happen. Great job guys.

The axis has a lil slower cycle time but that just means ya not pushing as hard to try and keep up with it . Less breaks equals more splitting time . I’d be willing to bet at the end of the day I can split the same amount of wood on the axis just because I would need less time for breaks . Karen’s getting cocky and thinks if we get a hopper feeder for the axis she can out split me over the corse of a day . I’m not sure about outsplitting me but all things being equal I think both machines are about the same . One just looks a lot nicer getting it done .

Nice I thought log lift would answer all my needs. I still end up noodling the huge ones. Just to big to handle. The versus definitely the answer for larger rounds. Great work. Stay cool 😎
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood Күн бұрын
I think with some of them real big rounds I will noodle them at least in half . No point in dumping a bucket full of 400 lb rounds into that hopper and risk breaking it . In the back of that log pile of oak are some 4 ft oak logs so we can really test out the log lift on that axis . Log lifts sure are nice but after using that hopper feeder I hope I don’t ever have to use a log lift again .

We have 2 dump trailers but I would need an acre of land to keep dumping it all . With the logs we can make big stacks and the longer the logs the less cut off pieces we get . That Stihl is really eating up that oak. Wood cuts so much better green. I have been cutting a stack of logs that are 8 years old all summer. About 12-14 cords, 30 ft. logs, mostly cherry. They were abandoned and the owner let me have them. He was going to set them on fire because he didn't have time to mess with them. It is bone dry and is hard to cut but it is ready to burn the day I cut it. There is some walnut, oak, and poplar, the poplar is pretty much junk. I have been using it to burn out stumps. When I traded my truck in, they asked if I had been in a hailstorm. Nope, I live in the woods in a grove of big hickory trees. I have quit trying to dodge them.

Thinking efficiency, One station designated firepit wood, the other for firewood?

@AllenFamilyFirewood Күн бұрын
That’s the nice thing about verticals they can do either and with this set up we can swap back and forth between boiler wood heating wood or bundle grade and separate it into each trailer as we go .

We don’t get much limb wood the tree company’s chip most everything under 10 inches . All of our wood comes from tree guys so we take what we can get

Looks like your wife is doing all of the heavy lifting in your operation. She's handling cuts off of the tractor while you use some hydraulics to feed to server up your cuts, and she's having to throw them on to the conveyor instead of just pushing them off your splitter...not a good look for you...
@AllenFamilyFirewood
@AllenFamilyFirewood Күн бұрын
Well we just got that new splitter and conveyor so we’re learning the best way to have it set up . Karen won’t run my old splitter as it can be a challenge to run and can be a bit dangerous as well . I think we are going to try and make it so she can slide the splits off the table into the conveyor but it’s gona take a lil time we just got all that new equipment a few weeks ago .

You know what i do for tree service guys to get wood in my area.. i give em 25 bucks a load of wood. It works great for them and me.. they get their gas paid for and i get almost free wood dumped off daily. It saves ya alot of time unless ya got a good woods to cut down like i seem to find twice a year .. i still love dropping trees and back 25 years ago i built a 36 ft flatbed trailer triple l 10 ton axels that i can haul almost tree length logs on it.. go for the ways that produce the most you too..

We tryed paying them to drop it off but when the dump is closer and it usually is they take it there . That’s why we go get it 90% of the time . It usually takes 4-5 trips and by then I’ve got em trained to cut 10-20 ft long sticks . I’ve never been able to train em to cut the nubs off but heck it’s free and usually nice stuff so I don’t push to hard .

Yeah washing wood doesn’t sound productive! I can see how the short logs would also take away productivity
@AllenFamilyFirewood

Ya never again will I be washing firewood logs lol. The short stuff is a pain cause I can only get a cord on the trailer but with all 18 ft logs I can get over 2 cord . It’s also a pain to stack logs in the Woodyard when some are 5 ft and others are 18 ft . I also get less cut off pieces if I have all long logs . Kinda just gota take what I get when it’s free though but I always try and let the tree guys know what I want .
