I laid my 1978 2 stroke mercury v6 to rest only last year and not because it was worn out internally. Corrosion and electric components were the deciding factors which no 4 stroke is immune from either.

There are direct injection two cycle engines that burn equally as clean as a four cycle now and make more power for the same displacement. Plus with the direct injection 2 cycles they’re longer lasting than a 4 cycle cuz of less moving parts still. I would love to see you guys go further into depth on these engines as kinds an up to speed like you guys did with the LS if I remember correctly. However this was an excellent episode as always from Donut!

@@ohnojt From what Ive read, you have a seperate oil tank. No longer need to carry oil to make premix gas. Further more the ECM can dial in how much oil and run it as from as little as 100 to 1 parts oil to gas. Etc for a cleaner burn.

powerband is different. It's actually opening a second chamber in the carby leading just above the piston to let more fuel and oxygen in. This actually leads to stress on gaskets. Thus the problems.

While they inherently don't last as long 2 strokes have come a long way in efficiency. Coming from the snowmobile world. I'm starting to see 10,000 miles on some of the sleds coming into the shop. with no engine work on them.

2 stoke for enduro 4 stroke for touring bikes. i have the yamaha dt200r is its fantastic offroad and on road. Planning on buying benelli trk502x for touring bike. gotta love the comfort 4 stroke bikes give.
