This is a step-by-step Modeling tutorial of a Tree and Stones in Maya. This video is a part of making a 3D scene using Maya- ZBrush- Substance Painter. In this series I am showing the entire pipeline in detail Modeling-Unwrapping-Texturing-Rendering. If you go through the entire series I am quite sure that you will be able to make a 3D scene and your understanding will be strong. Only I am assuming you know the basic interface of Maya.

When I chose 4 faces to circularize, the flat doesn't go along with surround object but distorted in strange direction. I have to rotate to adjust the side of the flat. How can I circuralize to match the right side like you without further adjustment?

You can do that but you shouldn't extrude it after that. Can change the shape of it and unfold the UVs.

TLDR; to make the tree branches, use edge loop to get enough faces to work with where you want to extrude the branch, select 4 faces, Edit>Mesh>Circularize, then extrude those 4 faces on a curve. Set tapering on the extrude to taper it. Same with the roots. In one case, he extrudes the 4 faces and scales them down without actually extruding them just to get enough clean geometry before the extrude on curve.
