Peric told that as soon as he turned on the radar - the avionics reported MALFUNCTION - those Migs werent maintained and didnt get a single spare part for 9 yrs or so (Yugoslavia was under sanctions). Almost all YU Migs 29 were in very bad shape, and could be used in airshow, but could NOT be used in real war engagement. Those man in Migs are heroes, as they went into fight on a jets that basically didnt have BVR capabilities. Radosavljevic pull other younger pilot that should be on that flight and said If someone needs to die - that wont be the kids - with those words he soared to legend.

Because you are hiding behind NATO, you only know that you are at war from the air and with technology.Iraq, Libya, Syria, Vietnam, you tried to enter Kosovo with Albanians from Albania in 1999. What serious equipment ? They where better with airplanes and equipment. The huge advantage was that OTAN(Nato) had the awacs airplanes. Russia wanted to help in the Yugoslavian side with something more powerful than otan & usa airplanes awacs and that would've been close to a war between nato and russia(there is a reportage and a book about what I just wrote and it is very interesting to read).

Yes, but the MiG-29 was built to defend the airspace, it is also a light fighter, compared to the F-15 which is a heavy fighter meant to rule the skyes anywhere... This two MiG-29s didn’t have working radars, if they did they would have for sure fired at the F-15s since they were in range... that being said, these two F-15s would be in big trouble, since the two sides would be closing at each other fast and the distance betwen them would be small, where the MiGs definetly have the advantage... but this is all hypothetical situation

Those pilots didn't stand a chance from the beginning and still flew up to challenge. With years of sanctions and lack of financial support, those mig29 were not fit for combat at all. Those Mig29 only had old outdated R27 Missle which were the most unreliable air to air Missle ever evented by the Soviet. Some of the Mig29 radars weren't even working at all along with some ejection seats also not working. It was a suicide mission from the start.

Yugoslav MiGs at the time had worse detection radar range than US pilots' targeting radar, meaning- F 15 could launch a missile on MiG 29 before MiG is even aware of F 15. Those 2 pilots in particular had problems with radio communication, one of them having malfunctioning R 73 missile carrier and other having no radar and Radar Warning Reciver. Bassicaly blind and deaf. But being hero is something above all that- those men showed the world that Yugoslavia will defend with all it has, even against 20+ countries most of which were economicaly far greater. And all those countries are now complaining about Russian invasion completley ignoring what they did not too long ago. No war is flowering field, bad things happen. But you do not create peace with violence, supporting one or another side.

Yugoslavia is not special.....most or all sovereign nations will defend its teritory.....Its combat, "kill or be killed". No one cares if you have comm problems or an inferior equipment or asset. Supporting one or another side?? Did you forget about the genocide? .........here's a snapshot of the past: "NATO's intervention was prompted by Yugoslavia's bloodshed and ethnic cleansing of Albanians, which drove the Albanians into neighbouring countries and had the potential to destabilize the region.

Formal reason is always needed. I won’t confirm od decline any of your facts and waste time on that (even tough a lot more can and has to be said in order to understand everything that went on, but just to mention - as there were crimes on Yugoslav side, no better was another one, there are numerous examples, and your statement ,,supporting one or another side” hits a rock here ) but you should keep in mind some generally-adopted facts: most of refugees both serbian and albanian left Kosovo the moment bombing campain started. NATO bombs equally hit albanian and serbian civilian houses on Kosovo, leaving no one feeling safe. Inflicting unsolvable material damage problems, and even more importantly- uranium poisoning of the ground and water, which of course still lasts to this day, leading to increased number of cancer deaths compared to european average- both nationalities suffer. Numerous italian peace keeping soldiers have died to this day due to cancer, and their families sued government for radiation poisoning they suffered after deployment on Kosovo just as the bombing ended. Whole operation completley avoided all safety procedures of UN neccesary when such operations are performed. Those were never the interests of world powers and I m sorry to blow your candles but there are many more proofs for my claim than yours. And last thing- is giving armamament to someone to fight something that ends of prolongs the war? That’s what’s happening to Ukraine right now. Why don’t NATO stop Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine if it is so sensitive on such things? Because it doesn’t dare to, it could be a fair fight, something NATO isn’t prepeared for. By giving arms to those poor people to fight you only prolong their suffering, not much more of anything else. What about US allies commiting war and ethnical crimes on daily basis? You cant even find such examples in the news, couse it s not something that should matter to you, read- those are national interests.

@@weyrdsfaegh6911 I agree with most of your points but in regards to Ukraine, I think we can all agree that *another* full scale European war isn’t in anyones best interests except coffin makers. One of those US pilots said in an intervju "when i saw burning planes i hoped there were pilots in them". What kind of a person says that, the YU pilot that survived said they don't think like that its enough to immobilize the enemy plane. And the Migs were the worst type 9.12B for non Warsaw Pact member and haven't been on overhaul or serviced for 10years and the radar bad , not even medium range missiles. It was back then in the US Air Forces own like news Magazine or whatever it is. This was so many years ago but i remember a reporter found the pilot that survived and showed it too him and wanted a comment. People are individuals thats like saying "i don't believe a professional soldier or pilot would commit war crimes ". But some did , like when cluster bombs were dropped on the biggest Marketplace in a big City in broad daylight. Or one of many cases when hospitals were bombed but then NATO confessed that they new what they were bombing but that they had the right to do so because 4-5 18 year old conscript soldiers were guarding the entrence because there were terrorists everywhere, terrorist that were labaled as terrorists by the State Department and many others but after Tony Blair had a meeting with the "honest " Bill Clinton they became allies in almost 24h so some unholy deal was made. But back to the hospital in the geneva conventions article 50 paragraf 3 if i remember correctly it says" The Convention specifically demands the safeguarding of civilian lifes even in the presence of individuals that don't fall under the defenition civilian". Yugoslavia also saved 500 allied pilots during WW2 Operation Hilard, there is a book called the forgotten 500 about that, but some that war alive in 99 were om tv ashamed and they new that the country was so demonized so they told their story how they were saved under great risk, hidden, evecuated. But the video that Wikileaks leaked of the Apache helicopter killing 12 civilians two of them very small children and the disgusting comments by the pilot not too mention that he lied over the radio to his CO to get the green light to fire those were professional pilots and it doesent matter which military it is no one is immune or moraly Superior to others . On the video later groundforces arriwe and one soldier is carrying a halfdead 5 year old girl he was on tv many times and he also commented everything the pilot said to explain. He and another member of his platoon wrote a letter to the victims familys appologizing for taking part in the war and he said that during his tour he saw systematic war crimes about 30-40. That not so strange if there are hundreds of thousands comming and going there will always be some bad seeds. But im pretty sure the military covers up alot .

The MiG-29 falls between the F-16 and the F/A-18 in many performance specifications. It can't turn quite as tight and, has a lower T/W than the F-16. A higher T/W than the F/A-18 but, less "AOA" of the F/A-18! Like many encounters, pilot training determines the winners far more than technical advantages of one fighter versus another fighter. The Russian AF's MiG-29s can maneuver with any fighter currently flying BUT, antiquated avionics and lack of pilot training is the reason the MiG-29 had (years ago) an 11:38, a negative kill ratio!!! Pilot training is the greatest reason the F-15 has a 105:0 kill ratio! There have been many "claims" by opposing fighter pilots of kills against the F-15 BUT, there has been NO wreckage sites of a defeated/killed F-15.

For some reason, everyone forgets that these MiGs, in addition to being unserviced, were also an export version and did not have a R73, but only a export version of R60 missle. F-15 pilots shooting down these MiGs could have been just as proud if they shot down a MiG15. They had American and not export aircraft, they were in the overwhelming majority and also had the support of AWACS. It’s even a shame to draw such marks on the sides. Now, if they had just as easily defeated the MiG-29M (9-15) or at lease Mig-29S (9-13S) with R-77 missiles and an equal number on both sides, then we could talk about something. And this is empty chatter.

Im pretty sure the migs had no working radar. They also lost a engine. It was a purely symbolic flight, they might as well have sent a Cessna. The most interesting battles were the ones that never happened. In 1982 the Syrians got Mig 23 MLD with Apex and israel never violated their airspace again. It would be interesting to see Operation Praying Mantis and the similar strike on Libya. Apparently the navy spent all day whaling on frigates with harpoons and the carrier air wing and failed to sink them. With Iran Ajr they boarded it because they couldn't even sink a barge.

I'm pretty sure in 1999, the F-15 sees the Mig-29 to shoot from far away before the Mig-29 sees the F-15. Then there is the question of missile range. I remember being a kid during this and Mig-29s were old and outdated then lol. Here it is 23 years later and these two aircraft are still are in service in many nations. Goes to show just how good weapon designers really got durinG the cold war. The latest version of the F- 15 may still be the best air superiority fighter in the world that isn't stealth and I saw vids saying they want to stealth it out to make it a gen 4.5 which would still probably be better than Russia's top fielded SU jets. IDK about China's stealth plane. I heArd India could see them on radar, but who knows.
