Great video. Though I was still confused because I thought tail lights (or any type of light) required a ground. I thought one of the two lines had to be a line to ground. I did a search and discovered your tail light must be self-grounded to its metallic base. So the two wires on the tail light are for the brake and running wires on the motorcycle. It's a great tip (that I forget) that the ground wire (on the motorcycle) just needs to be connected to some metal that leads to ground and not to assume it needs to be to a wire on the tail light itself (which is what I would have assumed). Love all your videos. Your last three have been hilarious and good natured fun. I especially loved the end of your rant video when you were doing the 'you do you and I do me" part. Thanks for sharing and becoming a role model.

Thank you! Yeah it's pretty cool how different some of the lights can be set up, and why it's so easy to get a short... lol. So glad you like my videos, it's very appreciated!
@ianloughney95707 жыл бұрын
You're right and you're wrong. The taillight is self grounding, but the ground wire coming from the bike's harness (The one with the ring terminal) actually doesn't need to go to a piece of metal or actually anywhere really. Once the taillight self grounds, that harness ground is doing nothing. Effectively here what she did was made a connection to the grounded taillight circuit, but then also had that piece of wire (again the one with the ring terminal so we dont lose track) going from a ground on one end to a ground on the other. Effectively that was just a piece of wire hanging between two bolts on the frame doing nothing.
@sufianalfutaih39525 жыл бұрын
@@ianloughney9570 so the tail lights' 2 wires (1 for running 2nd for stop) are working with out a ground wire in the picture . . , -->>> does that mean = the tail light is wired with an inner ground to its' self on the frame of the light case ? Must be other wise it'll burn out right (?)
@mikedraper1382 жыл бұрын
@@ianloughney9570 Ian you are correct only in the sense that the fender is metallic (metal). If it were fiberglass she'd need a grd wire coming from the main harness, otherwise the light would not work.

That bike is quickly approaching the most heavily modded sporty I've ever seen . And in the best way possible as well . I'm not a harley guy but I'd definitely want to ride that thing just to feel like mad max . Too bad sawed off shotguns arent legal . All that thing is missing is a sawed off side by side 12gauge in a sheath along side the tank lol

Nah , I know . You'll scare cagers . But maybe a old school mid-evil spiked mace ? You'd have to see what is legal where you live. In any event that is one rad bike . Maybe you could do a short video one day on all the comments you get on that thing . From cagers , other harley dudes/ladies , peds ... When you use tires for handguards and all this other crazy stuff I wonder what the folks say when they see it . I was just listening to a band called august burns red . Freakin love them .

Ughh, now I’m even more confused. I bought one of those cheap tour packs all over Amazon and eBay, the larger 40l ones with the curved backrest and top rack. The wires are solid, flashing and ground, It comes with no instructions. I’m thinking it’s actually a two wire light but with the option of either a flashing brake or a solid brake, does that sound right? It’s coming in today and trying to plan it out before I catch my bike on fire.

Trying to find out how to convert from 2 wire (R/BK) stock tail/brake light to 3 wire led (BK/R/BL). Please help!
@KillswitchQueen4 жыл бұрын
Same concept applies! Find out which wires are your running and brake light on your bike (a test light is perfect for this). Your old stock light may have been self-grounding. Then wire accordingly with the new tail light, find out which is running/brake/ground and you'll just need to create a grounding point for that 3rd wire.

So I've got 3 wires from the bike. Only one hot wire even when brake is pressed. I connect hot and negative and get the running light. Than if I ground the ground wire it lights up like the brake light. But stays lit and have no way to differentiate braking and running light. Been struggling with this all day. Cant seem to get it to light when I press the brakes
@KillswitchQueen6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you might have a problem with the brake switch itself. Check to see if it's getting power, and if the switch completes the circuit when the switch is activated. If the brake switches are good, then move on to the wiring.

When those connections fail, do one of two things. Go to your local electronics shop (a place that sales resistors and shit) and get a $30 crimp tool for the bullet style terminals and get the appropriate terminals from either the same shop or your local motorcycle shop. Or solder the wires together and use heat shrink to cover the connection. those crimp style connections are trash. :3
