My wife and I adopted a 16 year old deaf and blind poodle mix. The rescue shelter said nobody was interested in adopting him and were so glad we'd give him at least a few loving remaining months. Turns out, he was with us until about 20-1/2 years old and was just the best dog in the world. He used his nose to map the downstairs area and got around just fine. He had three different beds in various spots and a water bowl in kitchen. As he was an old man, he'd get out of the bed he chose for the evening, meander to the laundry room (where we always had pee-pads laid out), find them, do his business on target, then meander to his water bowl in the kitchen, drink his fill, then always return to the particular bed he was sleeping in. Brilliant dog. It's not for everyone, but very worth considering. You may be surprised how sweet and fun an old dog can be.

Yeah dogs who need homes are usually great with their new ‘pack’ members. I foster pups and nursing moms. My three family Papillons now will hear puppy noises on TV and immediately look at the place we keep the nursing moms in our den. Then they begin looking around the house excitedly for the pups they think came in (only to be a bit disappointed to learn it came from the TV). I hope people understand that deaf pups do great as pets. Using hand gestures since they can’t hear and being consistent with that allows them to know exactly what you need of them. The main thing that all fosters know with all white dogs whether they hear or not, is their skin is more susceptible to sunburn than other animals. There are lotions made safe for animals that needs to be a part of their routine. I’m sure this foster told the adopted family about this. This pup was a lucky boy! It sometimes helps a hearing challenged pup to live with dogs who can help teach them to be a dog without use of hearing. However it’s not always necessary to have other dogs. Playing games to teach these dogs to use their sense of smell is a fun thing to do. Cute video!! Best of luck to this pup and his new best friends🐶❤️ This was a very cute story.

Not every child. The only reason i say it is because everyone thinks a dog is a great Christmas gift. Only thing is kids don't understand responsibility worth a crap, and so the unfortunate side of this is dogs end up being dropped off at the pound at higher rates around the holidays because people underestimate the responsibility of dog ownership.

@bararobberbaron8593 жыл бұрын
They accept a little bit of heartbreak for the sake of getting more dogs a good home. Most people/homes can't handle more than 4 dogs. If you foster, in 10 years you can give like 250 dogs a good life, or 4 dogs if you choose to keep them. It's super selfless, I couldn't do that to myself so many times that's for sure.
@maxlove49063 жыл бұрын
@@bararobberbaron859 I'm kinda a hoarder by nature, so I'd probably end up "collecting" them all, two-by-two, like Noah had to do!! I'm retired, so I've got all the time in the world for them to: play, walk, feed, fuss, sleep & repeat! 😊 Hehehe xx
@patriciatimmons27363 жыл бұрын
You can learn to give them away when you've found the perfect home for them. You'll know when it's time. Fostering is the most important job for these animals and you have to remind yourself that. l fostered a dog once and I was so close to adopting him, but his original family came back for him. Turns out they were a military family and they were moving and had too much going on and didnt know that our county had a temp foster program for people who are in the hospital, etc and need temporary housing for their dog. Worked out for the best, I still text with his family and she sends me pictures of him and I recently rescued a dog from Mexico. Working on training him before we start fostering again

"Steady. You can do this." .. From a two year old. In the sweetest little voice ever. (yes, it's a good thing my kids are boys) To a dog that will never hear her voice but will always know love. :: bawls :: It's been a long week. I'm not crying, you're crying. Stop cutting onions in of my office.
