This is amazing. It's big enough that you can section it off when the kids are grown and they could have their own apartments. My brother and his wife's family did something similar to a giant farm house and now all of her siblings and parents live together running the farm, but they have their own spaces for all their own kids. The cousins get to grow up together and with their grandparents, it's pretty amazing. I'm excited to see where this goes for you guys, great job!

I would love to do something like this but with friends (my parents are both gone). A bunch of us, including myself, are over 50. It would be amazing having a co-op so we could support each other in retirement - we've already been talking about a tiny home community; this seems even better!

My nephew did the same thing, except they are turning it into 6 large family size (2-3 bdrm) apartments and the separate gymnasium they are converting into a community center. They are also turning the soccer & baseball fields into community garden plots which can be rented to grow vegetables & fruits. They are 2 years into the renovations and have at least another 2 years to go to finish the apartments completely. Qualified (and available) contractors have been difficult to find in their area but my nephew (and his 3 brothers) where raised on a working family run beef farm and grew up to have farms of their own, so they know how to get stuff done and make something out of nothing. I have no doubts at all that in 2-3 more years this place is going to be a beautiful, thriving business for his family! I’m so excited for them!! I hope you guys have just as much success!! Just go at it with a master plan and be patient….it WILL come together in the end. Best of Luck

I don’t know what it is in me … but I really really love old abandoned brick & mortar schools! We have one in an adjoining town (Dundee, KY) and it’s so dilapidated. But everytime I drive by I’m drawn to look at it. I do the same with old Victorian homes. Especially ones with the wrap around porches. I’ve got a friend of mine, her & her husband bought an old house (over 100 years old) and they are my constant reminders that the upkeep of an old home isn’t worth it. Theirs needs to be completely rewired, along with a few other major upgrades. So, I admire from afar. I think a lot of my curiosity with these old structures is that there’s so much history & memories in a building, that I’m amazed. I’m a very nostalgic person. It breaks my heart to throw some away that has a memory attached to it. I’m about to be 44, and I just threw away my high school letterman jacket (1998). It had some dry rot & was starting to mold a tiny bit due to the vacuum bag getting torn. That was a very very hard item to give up. Kudos to y’all, for seeing the potential in this school. It warms my heart to know there is people like you, who are willing to take on such a huge project! I certainly don’t have the patience nor the finances to accomplish what you guys did! I’m a single mom working as a substitute teacher, with a disabled son (functioning autism & adhd). Sorry such a massive comment. Just can’t express how happy my heart is to see a building keep on holding memories. ❤❤❤❤
