In the writing paper of the Cambridge English exams - B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE) and C2 Proficiency (CPE), you should try to avoid repeating vocabulary. Therefore, is useful to have some nice alternatives to common words up your sleeve: synonyms that allow you to express the same idea. So, in this video, I share six useful alternatives to the common (and often overused) linker, "therefore".

Hi Ben, we use ERGO in Italy even in speaking and informal conversation. I never heard it in an English one. Thank you for teaching always new things.

Some people use it in colloquial spoken English, but usually in an ironic way. Interesting that it's common in Italian

Dear, Ben! I would like to know: where "therefore " stands in the list of formal- informal? Is it appropriate to use it in colloquial speech? Thank you for the lesson! It's great as usual 🌺

1. Ergo 2. Thus 3. Hence 4. Consequently 5. For that reason 6. So I'm wondering if I could put "as a result" in this list? These expression are similar in meaning, but not exactly the same

That's a good one, but in my opinion it's like you said, that it has a different meaning... I think "therefore" is used to express you can infer one thing from another, but it doesn't mean it's a consequence... In that case I'll use "as a result". I hope Ben can help us with these 😁
