There is no precedent within the British Monarchy, or of the 15 other nations who recognize the Monarchy, for there to be such a thing as a King Consort. In our system, a King always outranks a Queen. Therefore, when you have a female Sovereign, as we currently do, then her husband becomes the Prince Consort. When William takes the throne, Catherine will be Her Majesty The Queen. It is as simple as that. And Prince Phillip does have Royal blood. He was born a Prince of both Greece and Denmark. Queen Victoria was the Queen in her own right! She married Albert of Saxe Coburg Goths and he became the Prince Consort! Similarly, the Queen's father, King George VI, married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon and she became the Queen Consort! Catherine will become Queen Consort automatically when William becomes King. The current Queen's mother was not of royal blood and she was Queen Consort to King George VI. Widows of Kings in the UK also retain the title of Queen and are also known as the Queen Mother which means they are the widow of a monarch (Queen) and the mother of a monarch (Mother). They are obviously not Queen Regnant as only a Queen who is the monarch can be that and not a Queen through marriage to a King. All this "will she, won't she be Queen Consort?" business is mainly in relation to Camilla when Charles becomes King. When Charles married Camilla there was a lot of public anger that two adulterers, both of whom divorced and one who is to be head of the Church of England married and so people were saying Camilla should never be Queen. This doesn't really make sense though as the two of them are at fault so either neither of them gets a title or both of them do. It can't be right that only one of them that gets some kind of punishment for what people believe they are both guilty of.

You are correct to say it isn't an official title, it just is what she was - a Queen by marriage and not by birthright, that's what Queen Consort means. This happened in Belgium in the 90`s when Queen Sofia of Belgium became regent for a short while after her husbond died, and they didn`t have an heir apparent. The same thing happened in Thailand in the 50`s when the Queen became regent after her husbond became ill. Her title was later changed to Queen Regent after that. The sovereign is the head of state, but in some cases the spouse can deputize on behalf of the monarch in special cases like illness of death. There have been a couple of King consorts in history. There was one in Scotland. He was simply called the King. The only time when consort has been used in an official title was when Queen Victoria made Prince Albert, the Prince Consort. That`s the only time the word "Consort" has been an official title. The title Queen consort doesn`t exist, since the title Queen was originally designed as a special title for the wife of the sovereign. That is also why it is not normal to grant the title of King to a spouse of a sovereign Queen since the title of King originally meant ruler or sovereign.

A woman is not entitled to Queen just because she is married to a Sovereign King. 13 years ago, Clarence House stated Camilla would be known as Princess Consort should Charles ascend the throne (though that has been removed now). 1) Prince PhiLIp (one L) does have Royal blood. His line is from Greece, but The last Royal family of Greece was from The Danish Royal family. Also Prince Philip is also a great great grandson of Queen Victoria of Great Britain so he has plenty of Royal Blood. The reason Prince Philip is 'Prince' is because the title of 'King' is higher than 'Queen' so it would not be fitting for him to hold a higher title than the Queen Regent. However, for Camilla and Catherine, they will very likely hold 'Queen Consort' as did the Queen Mother. So, although she would not be formally addressed as "Queen Catherine" she would be HRH Catherine, Queen Consort.

Not arguing with you here, I just have a question. Why is it that Catherine has to wait until she'd Duchess of Cornwall to give royal warrants to companies. Why can't she do that now as Duchess of Cambridge?

@@okbunyip The only duchies in England with some related powers are the ones of Lancaster and Cornwall. The rest are just noble titles which come with fortune and styles, but not real administrative powers. E.g. William, Duke of Cambridge, does not really rule Cambridge, does he?

My knowledge about the British Monarchy is limited so I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it would be Will who has the final say whether or not if the marriage takes place if one of their kids want to get married when he is King not Kate since he will be the one ruling the Monarchy, she will just be by his side as he does.
