And why would blizzard do that? They are a greedy company. The card packs are in general expensive so are the bundles and community has been complaining about it for a while but blizzard doesnt care. I believe the reason why the reason why they got rid of adventures is we got to play a lot less than what we wouldve paid to get most of the cards out of a set from packs. In adventures you just fight a few moderately easy bosses and get cards that way after buying the adventure instead of resorting to a gambling system hoping to get lucky while wasting immense amounts of money just to luck out amd get that legendary.

A friend of mine did the same and got the complete collection, I was missing lots of key ultra rares.

So I would consider myself a hearthstone whale. I purchase both sets normally, get the extra heroes and card backs, and completely finish every set and I have been playing since Old Gods. Unfortunately, I see this as the last year I will be purchasing or preordering packs at all. I have finally reached golden hero portraits with all of my heroes only to find that was the only reason I was still playing. I know things now are a lot better than the Karazhan meta, or even the MeanStreets of Gadgetzan, but I have become so bored with this game and ladder that I only really play arena now. I used to absolutely love this game, but I don’t care for getting legend anymore and just get rank 5 every month for the guaranteed golden epic for the dust and then proceed for the next 20 days playing golden Whizbang decks (the reward for legend or rank5 is the same so why bother). I find that the story the Hearthstone team is doing this year is awesome, and I absolutely love the thematics, just like back with Frozen Throne. Sadly none of this was enough to keep me interested. I used to love watching the competitions, but this whole new grandmasters thing really pushed me away. I wanted to see nobodies make it, not the same ppl every time. Also the single player content feels like the same thing every single time, dungeon run with a different enemies. I’m choosing to finish out this year because I’d like my complete set to end with the rotation, and also to still support a game I once truly loved. I really hope this game continues to thrive, maybe one day in the future I’ll come back when they finally decide to get rid of the classic set. Sorry for the essay.

Depends on how much dust you have. If you have a lot, the price for a full collection goes down a lot. If you are a newbie and has a low amount of arcane dust, then you have to pay around 300 dollar mark.

I used to pay a lot of money for pre order but it is too expensive for me now and the reward doesn't seem that worth it. 80$ for a new skin card back gold legendary card and 80 packs isn't worth it. Given the fact out of those packs I am only able to get maybe 3 or 4 legendaries out of the packs. If it was less money and a way to get more legendaries out of the packs, I would buy but for right now, I'm saving my gold for the new arena format and grinding my packs that way and if I get bored I will buy them with gold

I feel you, i'd be more inclined to spend money on packs if not for the fact that most of them are empty.. I think they would probably be able to sell more if they lowered their prices (i.e earn money by selling a lot rather then earning a lot from each sale but only selling a few) but these days that's unreasonable to expect from any company, especially one with Activision pushing decisions in the back. Also good luck with your arena grinding, im also looking forward to trying out the new arena rotation, but don't really have the same plans on earning that amount of packs from it.

@@Foil09 Yup, it seems like only professional streamers or people who played it for many years have a chance to get most cards. I'd much rather they lowered the return you get for dusting, but made packs more reliable and with a higher impact. So you get more cards overall, if you want that. Even when I spent everyday playing at least 2-3 Arenas to 5 wins minimum, often more, I still only managed to open 150 rise of shadows packs. So no matter the commitment, it just seems impossible, unless you have a fuck ton of free time or stream.

There's no point in spending money on HS, cause only a few decks are competitive on Ranked and if you want to play with different cards, even in Casual, you will be steam rolled by these meta decks. So, if you do your quests daily you can get at least 80 packs. Then, if you wanna be competitive, craft one or two decks when the meta settles and bore yourself through Ranked, or craft what you want and get crushed on Casual without thinking "do I really paid money for this BS?".

From what I seen from the comments I feel like the only reason this game still thrives is because newer players fall into the same trap us older players that left fell into. Hearthstone shows cool cinematic brings in new players they buy the pre-order not knowing that they need the other sets to actually play the game they play for a few games with their crappy decks against the rich blizzard whales who have every card they either quit or they buy more packs from other sets then the rotation comes and they lose all their cards and they quit and never come back. Rinse and repeat.

The "best" event we have seen to date was the "Taverns of Time", I boosted my collection value substantially during that time. I crafted both Gen and Baku during that event along with grabbing a ton of packs (I was a new player as of 4 months prior). Blizzard would do well to give us one or two BIG events like this every year, to help keep FTP and new players competitive is they manage their resources well.

My gold is at a record low this time, usually I have enough for 25-30 packs just with gold at launch, however, this expansion, the Heist cost me sooo much gold I had to keep grinding even after it was out in order to afford it. Now I have about 1500 gold, so 15 packs, which is a bummer. Hopefully this trend of paid Dungeon Runs won't keep going for long. I'm sure players will get sick of paying every time as well, just for a few reskins. But I hope Blizzard surprises us! Great work as always :]

Salad Dongs if you’re so short on gold why did you buy the other wings? They gave you the first wing for free and every subsequent one was a nearly identical experience. The entire thing was also just a reboot of the free dungeon run so even less reason to buy it. Furthermore the legendary reward was for fun only. So you were never “forced” to buy it. This game is more than possible FTP, but you must be wise about your spending!

I have been playing hs on and off since nax. I love this new expansion. Loe was one of my favorite expansions and i really enjoyed what Rise of shadows brung to the table. I usually pre order expansions every expansion plus i pit in the gold i saved into them as well. Im probably looking to open 110 packs at the beginning. Blizzard was very generous last expansion with things like free snip snap, and fire festevil rewards. So far some of the cards seem meta changing and i hope the meta does a complete 180. The only problem i have with the game are hero cards (Doc Boom). But hopegully the quests are a way to outvalue warrior. Im really exicted to play control shaman, quest priest, and rouge. I love what blizzard is doing at the moment with the game.

I have been playing for one and a half month and I have only managed to get 2000 gold. Maybe once every 3-4 days or so I get an invite from a friend for the 80g quest. I don't have the time to play all day. I usually play for 1-2 hours per day whenever I get time. I don't know if your numbers really apply for a casual player like me. Even if I keep three quests active and refresh one to get 60 gold to maximize my gold I still only get like 70 gold or so everyday along with the 10g for three wins. Some days a normal player just doesn't get time. So approximately gold hard earned for 40-45 days goes to pay for an expansion like dalaran where each wing costs 700. And you only get 16 packs in return including one golden pack which actually yielded nothing special for me. This is the sad truth of hearthstone. It's a great game plagued by greed. And the ladders contain identical template decks which just downright get frustrating for somebody who wants to experiment and have fun. I used to buy bundles and still play it but I am not paying Blizzard a single dollar anymore unless they prove to me they earned it.

They were buffing cards and other cool stuff, and me, the fool that I am, actually considered the idea that blizzard was making a steady change and this expansion would not be so overpriced. If I spend 80$ on any other game I unlock everything and they actually appreciate it. 80$ to hearthstone is kinda like 1/30 of the game and it’s stupid. I love the vibe and the feeling of playing hearthstone, but after seeing that the new League of Cash grab explorers are incredibly boring and reprints basically, a 2 year old could figure out the fact that this was a cash grabbing scheme.

I’m not so happy with HS, because of the second Hall of Fame rotation in the year, affecting my two favorite classes (Priest and Rogue) Not to mention the Prep nerf and how all of rogue spells are so expensive now. So yeah I’m not planning on spending money on this game. I can handle the fact that 1 of every 4 opponents are Hunters, the dominance and unfairness of Dr. Boom, but it was because I used to have a chance with my favorite classes, but not anymore.

Started game during knight of the frozen throne. Got €80(sale) amazon coin bundle for Boomsday relase. With half of them i Got 50 packs preorder. i Got extremely lucky with bonus golden zilliax, and many good legendaries like dr boom, kangor army, floop gloop, cloning gallery and flark. Tought that the purchase was somehow worth because yes, i spent €40, but i got a few good cards that allowed me to play some good decks. Spent the other half for Rastakhan Rumble 50 packs bundle, (that already felt like a ripoff cause no free legendary and useless hero skin, i tought about skipping this preorder but the game got the best of me.), and ended up opening another 40 packs by myself. Got extremely unlucky with Hir'Eek as free legendary, halazzi, Bomswandi, and Graal. All of them are totally unplayable, so i spent 40€ to get nothing useful. Had to craft Zul'jin cause hunter meta, and after being bored of secret hunter vs secret hunter for a whole month (no good pack openings -> no new fun decks. secret hunter, zoolock and deathrattle hunter gets boring after a while.) i just stopped playing and only logged once-twice a week. didnt even reach rank 5. Came back before rise of shadows relase and opened about 30 packs with gold. (couldnt open more cause of double-dipping with packs + adventure to purchase and gold to save up for next expansion.) Not many epic/legendary cards from this set are played so i decided to craft some cheap cards like underbelly angler to keep my decks updated and i'm having fun playing alternating spell damage mage, murlock shaman, resurrect priest (i opened catrina muerte for free!) dragon paladin and the occasional secret/bomb hunter if i want to climb fast. Hate CC mage and bomb warrior playstyle so i'm not crafting the 2 wrenchcaliburs + boombmaster boom / khadgar + mana cyclone to play them even tought i have dust to spare. Even after amazon coin discount (€40 instead of €50) and getting extremely lucky (Boomsday) the preorder feels like burning money cause you dont get all the cards you want from a single expansion even after you pay more than the price for a full AAA game. the Rastakhan rumble bad luck was the wakeup call: dust to make about 1 and a half deck (in a game where you can make 10 good ones and 100 fun others) is just not worth the money, so i got something else. Would love a preorder where for a reasonable price, you just buy the whole card set. or a fair pack price: 1€ is out of this word, atleast for me. Thank you for this video! i knew that a measly 400 gold + old packs (yikes, i had opened old ones to pity timer already! no way i'm doing another round!) was a rip-off from other years. Greed... but who cares! i wont spend money and have fun anyway.

As a side note, I wasn't "forced" to spend 2800 gold on the Adventure. Zayle Shadowcloak is obviously not a competitive card and was completely skippable and I chose not to purchase the single player content because after trying the free wing I decided it was just another Dungeon Run for the 4th time and I didn't want to pay for that. Also, if you are someone who does enjoy the single player content don't spend gold on it and then Pre-Order the next expansion. If you're willing to spend actual money, spend it on the single player content FIRST and only pre-order with money if you still want to spend more money afterward. It's better to spend $20 to save 2800 gold than it is to spend $50 to save 5000 gold.

I bought the big amazon coins bundle at the beginning of witchwood. I used that to prepurchase everything available in the year of the mammoth and some classic card packs to fill up the basic set (I started in k&c). At first I thought I wasted everything, but by being safe with crafting and stockpiling gold every set, I now think I have enough resources (140+k gold and 15-20k dust) to safely open just 70 packs a set with gold and craft the few cards that end up being somewhat meta. I think I should be good for years to come and I haven't even really dusted the good wild cards yet. We will see.

+/- $290 dollars is far too expensive for 135 cards, especially since they're digital AND each one isn't guaranteed. I bought the witch wood pre-order when they had each pack at like .35 cents but these new pre-orders don't have enough incentive for me to buy and they're too highly priced. Also, imagine being a new HS player this expansion, you'll start at rank 50, and have virtually no cards. It sets a low "fun level" at the beginning and makes it difficult for me to convince my friends to play such a time consuming and expensive game.

Simon Lucas No one ever brings this up since they love to drone on and on about how possible FTP is, but the game early on just isn’t any fun at all. You have no cards, you can’t really deckbuild since all the fun cards are higher rarity plus you’re still learning, so I can never convince anyone to actually stay long enough for this issue to even come up. It’s an issue with every digital TCG, but Hearthstone especially given its price and model.

the master of nothing yeah I just started playing a month ago and stalled out at like rank 16 playing random stuff, then decided to go with midrange hunter and I’m chilling at rank 11. I feel like I’ve gotten pretty unlucky in packs and opened around 48 ROS but only gotten 1 legendary so far (Archivist Elysiana) excluding Vargoth. It’s tough because the meta does already seem stale to me even after a month but I don’t really want it to change because then I’ll be behind the curve again and trying to open enough Uldum packs to stay current 😂. I think I might just open 10 and then start saving for the next expansion so then I’m not always playing catch-up because I see this game as just a hobby and thus f2p for me. You guys are right. If you started playing very early on (before and including WotoG), a new player will fare well because of the lack of expansions and there being only ‘small amount’ of cards so getting a full collection is possible. Now they keep adding expansions 3 times a year, this game is so challenging for a F2P player. For those who are new, make 2 accounts and do the quests together for the first while.

@CBreezy Best to make budget decks like the Midrange Hunter. To add more flavour, Token Druid and Zoolock are also budget decks (check out OldGuardians decks for those types, he also has other budget decks in hearthpwn). If you want to save up for Dalaran Heist (Do not pay real money) and you can get Zayle shadow cloak where you can play actual decks which adds more flavour to the game.

The prices are far too high. I can't afford all the deck's. I don't have the time to grind for F2P. What I usually do is pick one class and try and get all their cards.

Pre ordered both bundles, got 9 legendaries. Glad I got some good ones: Shaman quest,Zephrys,Siamat,Vassina and Dinotamer Brann. You can open your pre ordered packs if you create a fireside gathering. The two golden legendaries are not counted yet, those will be available on August 6. So 11 total in 133 packs.

Used to buy packs and try to make a complete collection, but that became too expensive quick. Nowadays I focus on making decks that ladder and or play in tournaments. For this, I don't need as many cards especially if I don't like a classes theme for a set. Usually craft four to five decks, three that I like and two that come close to completing. Thanks to your disenchant guide, now have 12k dust saved so don't need as many packs :)

I used to pre order every expansion in addition to buying packs every once in a while. I did this for a period of about 2.5 years. Now, i haven’t spent any money on the game in over a year. The reason for this was as I got older, I realized how much money I had actually been spending. $120+ a year on a game is a lot of money. In addition, if you don’t spend any gold on anything for the entire 4 month span of an expansion and do the quest every day, you will be able to buy around 70 packs with gold when a new expansion is released. If you don’t buy any additional packs and repeat the process, this will allow you to comfortably create multiple meta decks each expansion without spending any money. After I started doing this, I further realized that it wasn’t worth spending real money on a game I could already play and enjoy to the fullest without spending any. It’s just too much money when you think about what else you could spend it on and the fact that chances are you will stop playing the game within a few years and all that money will cease to benefit you.

On day 1 of SoU I opened 50 FTP packs. 45 bought with gold, 2 from brawls, 3 from the SoU legendary quest. Got 4 Legendaries (one of which golden), 3 golden commons and 1 golden rare.

I pre ordered once , the legendaries are getting lower rather than higher , now that we have quests and league of explorers it is clear to see how much weaker they are. Now I play wild and don't feel desperate to keep up with the rotation of standard and so I don't feel inclined to get the cards from the preorder anymore instead I feel very comfortable with just buying however many packs I can from the gold I save. One suggestion I have for these videos in the future, is that many players including me do not immediately start saving again after the expansion start , instead people don't really save until the expansion is announced/ revealed so maybe this can be a category/ taken into consideration for the next expansion video

I'm a free to play player. I save gold and packs inbetween expansions for one big opening. Currently I have 21 packs of various expansions and plan to buy 50 SoU packs. So my total will be around 80 packs give or take.

I'm spending as little money on hearthstone now than I ever was. I dont approve of most of what they have been doing and am slowly losing interest in the game as I realize the developers aren't trying to make the game better but are trying to sell more packs and bundles.

I personally think 80 cards is way too expensive. In Australia it costs over $100. In fact, the price per card pack between the 50 and 80 pack deals is almost identical; you’re barely getting better value for the 80 packs; the inclusion of Elise is the only incentive. I much preferred the value and budget packs of Rastakhan’s Rumble: you actually got more value for upgrading to the more expensive pack (and a new hero)! 50 cards is all you really need to get started I reckon.

I'll be getting the $80 bundle this time and have about 5700g saved up. I'm going to see what I get with the 80 pack bundle first and then maybe use half of my gold for more cards to round out things better. I will then use the remaining gold to start building more towards the next expansion without using money at that time. This will be my second time buying one of the preorder bundles in over two years. My reasoning is that I always resort to buying 4-5 of the $10 bundles over the course of of a month to help round out my collection on top of the usual 70-80 packs from saved up gold. Elise sweetened the deal this time tbh, but I felt that they should have finally given warrior, hunter, and mage another hero instead. I also have about 19000 dust saved up for stuff I want to craft but I won't use it all tbh. I like to use 60-70% of it each expansion. I did splurge on a Golden Brightwing recently though. I also like to keep 1 regular and one golden of each common-epic card if I can. I don't go out of my way to achieve this btw, unless its a card a really like. I also love the static non-golden artwork too and feel keeping 2 goldens to be a waste of space and potential dust.

Starting the game i bought some preorders, and since a I play only standard the rotation gives me a good amount of dust. I considered the dalaran heist adventure a distraction to gather gold and didnt spent any on it and my gold count is around 7k so I hope to open 70-80 packs

I usually save up about 2-2.5k gold and buy as many packs as I can with those. After playing some games and seeing which of my opponents' cards/decks seem fun, I start crafting.

In what world is it okay to charge $50/$80 for card packs? Like I have disposable income but if you think about what else you could buy with that it just becomes absurd. Also seems like the average player is only able to save up enough gold for 10-30 packs not sure where you're getting 70 packs from.

I used to spend money on HS, but since I became better and better I found that it is totally possible to get few fun decks for gold/arena rewards and enjoy the new content. Ones I got sick of those few decks I got much gold to buy other legendaries/epicks to enjoy other decks. Spending money does not actually give you an edge over other players so what's the reason for spending in the first place? It is just my opinion and experience, don't hate me ;)

This is only the 2nd preorder in quite a while that I am not doing. I have enough gold saved up for 60 packs, which is plenty for me. I wasn't going to do the last one either, but I ended up buying the preorder for the initial packs and used my saved up gold for the solo content (plus arena).

60 packs sounds like a good amount. I have a feeling like the last expansion this year will hopefully turn the tables around and hopefully introduce new mechanics and ideas (I’m probably dreaming) so I’ll save 50 gold. If it’s sub-par like this expansion, I’m going to just use 30 gold on new expansion and the rest of Rise of Shadows, which is way more superior to Saviours of Uldum.

I used to buy every expansion and spend £40/70 gbp per expansion. I'd play 40hours a week and be between rank 5 and legend, back before you couldn't drop below tiers. I play very casual now and only run 1 or 2 decks, vs having every meta deck. Why? I feel that bliz are too greedy, don't give enough back to the community etc. If I spend £40/50 I expect the whole game. How can you justify 1 legendary card, a bunch or randoms, for the same price as a triple A title like red dead 2??? I couldn't even play the game fairly against other people for the cost of a triple A title that took years to make? Seems fair to me that I would part with £40/50 for everything. Consider the equivalent...

Can you explain how for this years fire festival grants you 7.5 packs? you can see clear as day that you get exactly 7 packs and 400 gold that’s 2 arena runs and a pack, or 4 packs If you just buy packs you get 11 packs total, I don’t really understand the reasoning for how the estimate is 7.5 packs

I havent played for about a year before Rise of Shadows, so i lacked quite a few cards. Thankfully the nerf bus on the odd and even cards helped with that. I still lack alot of the cards this cycle so i dont have much gold to spare, cause i spent it on arenas. After i grinded out the Adventure i made enough gold to probably buy about 20-25 packs with golde once the expansion hits. I feel like it was easier in the past for me to keep up but then again, if i had played for that year i was away, i probably would have been able to keep up.

I used to buy Hearthstone's pre-purchase since Karazhan. Witchwood was my last pre-purchase because it gave me 70 packs for $65 AUD ($50 USD). I simply don't see enough value in the pre-purchase afterwards. With $67 AUD or even $110 AUD, I could get a really good game on Steam (full content) but in Hearthstone I won't be able to get many playable decks (only getting part of the content).

I intend to open about 20 packs with gold, and save the remaining 2800 gold for the solo adventure. I've only ever spent money on hearthstone way back for Blackrock Mountain's adventure. Overall for me I might not have the best collection, but I ride the game for free, and make one or two good decks per expansion that I enjoy playing.

Could you include an option for people that _DID_ pre-order? I may not exactly like everything about the next expansion, but I still would like to collect all the cards, and the pre-order seems to be the "cheapest" way of doing that. I know that the grind is a bit difficult for the people just starting out, but personally Blizzard could put out an expansion full of cards that see *absolutely* no play and I'd still want to collect the cards because it feels fun for me.

I used to buy the pre-orders but have since stopped. My current Hearthstone approach can be described as a solo casual. I'm not trying to win an event. I am not talking to anyone about the game. So the desire to get new cards quickly is very low. Hearthstone is missing a 'Kitchen Table' mode. I am absolutely certain I could convince friends to load the game up and play in a casual setting but collection strength and experience puts that I effectively have to let my friends win in this example. Multiplayer variants would make the game much more approachable and keep players a lot longer.

A Tournament mode was cancelled. Blizzard could implement a Tournament style mode kind of similar to where you (and a pool of players) are started with building a deck (similar to Dungeon Run) and versing players. As you keep on winning, you gain better rewards. If you win you should get a legendary.

What I've noticed is that the game has shifted, and power level of cards are now defined by rarity. Epics are now usually the meta defining cards, not legendaries, and opening packs is not the way to really obtain them. I've played since beta, and I am still missing a few copies of a few epics of the classic set. If you actually want them, you need to craft them with dust. Therefore what I do every expansion now, is open the freebees I get till I hit my first legendary. Then with gold I buy 40 total packs. * so I open roughly 41 to 50 packs total. And tend to sit around 9k gold by the time an expansion hits. It's ok if I hit a legendary in the middle, these packs are mostly to get most of the rares and commons of the set and if lucky some good epics. You don't really need all the cards, most are filler. Then I look over what I have, and wait a little and observe the meta or choose something I think will be fun. *cause I'll be playing only that the whole duration * I then craft a few epics and maybe a needed rare or two to use for the entire duration of the expansion. Last expansion I crafted mech hunter, and bomb warrior. This method gets the job done, the deck is usually good enough to get your dailies done fast each day. And keeps enough gold that anything that comes up, solo adventures and such are easily afforded with daily gold. Can be a little boring, but I did find that by then the solo adventure stuff wasn't too bad. I see hearthstone as a very casual game, and overall I have a pretty good time.

I plan to open roughly 10 packs as soon as the expansion hits then grind arena. I've played an unhealthy amount of hearthstone in the past 3 days grinding only arena and at no cost of gold (only my sanity) I've made a net profit of 4000 dust. I'll be crafting what I need rather than opening many packs. The most packs I've ever opened on release day was 70 WTOG packs using gold. Funny thing was I got all the commons expect for Bloodhoof brave. Not even a single copy :\

@@Limtz yeah its astonishing, also 60EUR in Cyberpunk does not give you a chance to get to a cool district (and get cool content), you can access all content and experience everything for 60EUR. no lottery tickets/chances involved. That's a huge contrast to the value Hearthstone offers.
