I preordered every bundle for 2 years. My conclusion, even after opening aprox 200 packs every expansion, I always found myself without important epics and legendaries. As a result I could only craft a handul of good decks (some of which I didn't even enjoy playing). 2 weeks into the SoU expansion I theorycrafted a deck which used a legendary most player considered bad. Since I only had the dust to craft about 3 legendaries before the next expansion I couldn't risk it. A few weeks later a build almost identical to the one I theorycrafted started making waves on ladder and reached tier 2. The lesson of this story, even players who open 200+ packs cannot experimenent with all the cards since they nee to preserve their resources. Experimenting is meant to be an important part of the game but because it is so expensive many players cannot afford to. As result players are left with little choice other than to netdeck because crafting the wrong cards/decks could result in them having less good decks to play until that set leaves circulation. A season pass could fix this, giving players all cards so they can experiment. It could be done for about $15 to $20 a month. Thi would net them about 2/3 of what preorders do per player but it seems pretty clear to me that more players whould be willing to do that than drop nearly $400 per year.
@vividice4 жыл бұрын
Somewhat the same problem for me. But only for epics. No clue why you don't have close to all legendaries or even all legendaries with so many opened packs. No duplicate rule helped a lot there. But with epics you could still end up with 7 copies of a useless epic and not a single one of the good epic cards sadly.
@gibospartan61854 жыл бұрын
@@vividice Partly the issue was card distrubution. Even if I had 80% of legendaries from a set, I would be missing some classes epics or legendaries and epics for that class from a previous expansion. It's kinda dumb that I could theorycraft some fun and whacky decks which I couldn't use, even having spent about $400 a year on the game. Experimentation and variety are great for the Meta as a whole yet Blizzard's monetization damages variety and pushes players towards net decks which makes the game become very bland shortly after an expansion.

My main issue with spending money on hearthstone is that it has to feel like you're getting your moneys worth, and since im kinda expecting most packs to be empty im usually not really interested in buying. I will say that the prices on descent of dragons did look quite fair, at least compared to their usual pricing. The only remaining issue would be that you still have to spend a larger sum of money at once, something like the "thank you" bundle would be perfect to deal with that. I do spend money on hearthstone sometimes, the past 2 years i've bought the "wild bundle" they've had around summertime, last year I believe it was 35€ for 56 packs, and I will most likely buy that bundle again this year (to me that price/pack sounds good + I mostly play wild so chances are i'll get cards that are relevant to me).
@vinny56384 жыл бұрын
Not only that, but literally no matter how much money you spend your win rate will never exceed like 55-59% so you're still paying possibly hundreds of dollars for a coin flip lmao. Its the height of idiocy to pay2win on a game so reliant on luck & random number generators.
@DrewskiTheLegend4 жыл бұрын
Vinny most ccgs average out to a lifetime win rate in the 60% range for the best players and some of the best hearthstone players are there. Yeah it’s an RNG based game, but it’s an RNG based game for everyone.
@vinny56384 жыл бұрын
@@DrewskiTheLegend That makes sense but does it alter my coin flip position? Bare with me I may just be misunderstanding. Since its the same rng for everyone, and the HSReplay stats say all the best decks have the same 59.9% win-ratio, that means that no matter what deck you run, when you get into rank 10-legend youre going to have a basic coinflips chance of winning each game no? So that means that no matter how much theorycrafting or money spending you do, youre only ever padding your chances to win by like 1-5 percent. Which is pretty negligible when you look at the big picture.
@DrewskiTheLegend4 жыл бұрын
Vinny Sort of. The statistics take into account all people playing that deck, so below average-average players who build the deck because some streamer is playing it, then play the deck suboptimally are also included in the deck’s overall win percentage. That’s the reason you’ll occasionally have a weird deck with like a 95% win rate- low sample size, skill and difficulty of the opponent and skill of the pilot all play a part in how successful a deck is, and an unexpected deck that counters a certain meta defining deck or field can achieve very high win percentages while flying under the radar, at least for a time. Over the long term you may be right though; marginal gains for exponentially larger sums of money is the name of the game in high level competition in just about anything.
@rhyanaz28834 жыл бұрын
Great suggestions overall. The game's economy is extremely frustrating. For anyone that doesn't pay a lot each expansion, they'll have a hard time playing consistently. The meta is slow, every now and then a new "best" deck appears that has different legendaries that most don't have. And you're stuck with your old deck that you crafted with all your dust. It gets boring and it's not worth it. And we always expect the packs to give 40 dust. Because that's what happens most of the time. Now I highly doubt blizzard will do anything, and if they don't, I do hope Runeterra overwhelms HS and steals its players. At least they aren't as greedy and listen to the community.

You can only buy up to 3 champion wild cards a week, which makes it much more fair to f2p people. And there's an exp system with rewards, and the vault. Playing around 30 minutes a day will get you 2 diamond chests and a platinum one in the vault. An expedition token which always gives you a champion. In total, every week you will get 2 champions, a bunch of Commons and rares. Maybe a few epics and around 2k shards. Essentially giving you less the more you have. It'd take 3-5 months of almost daily play to fully unlock the current collection. The WC cap just limits payers who'd want to get around the time gate, it's frustrating if anything and won't change stompy games of big collection people vs new players, just delay it. Rewards, vault and expedition gives tons. And just like arena, it's very rewarding to be good at it and plus, the minimum you get is what you paid for. Then again, it's a collectible card game, it won't be fun to have the whole collection in a week. There are only 24 champions and you get 2-3 a week minimum if we disregard the rewards system. 1: Let me be honest: Paying doesn't grant any certainty that you get what you want. It's a no go on that point. (CARD REWARD UNCERTAINTY) 2: Prices are high while you only get digital content. It's lost the moment you stop playing. So making the price lower will make consider buying it reasonable. (PRICES TOO HIGH) 3: The balance of the game is off and is only getting worse. As a wild player the inbalanced makes me want to stop playing rather then spend any money on the game. (HIGH IMBALANCE / ONLY GETTING WORSE. NEW CARDS / MECHANISME MORE AND MORE OP SOMEHOW.) 4: How much money does the company need from one player over the course of let's say 5 years to make earnings? A very important question. Because how much do you believe that paying for a game is worth? Let's be honest: if you need over a 1.000 Euro or Dollars or whatever currency to get a decent collection from nothing. That's a lot of money to pay for one game. I myself played for a long time and spend like 150 Euro on it but don't know when the ammount I spend is reasonable??? WHAT IS THE GAME WORTH? AND HOW MUCH SPENDING IS REASONABLE??? 5: Another reason people probably don't want to buy content is because of principle. If a game tries to make too much money while giving back too little. Do that now and people will remember it in the future. They will simply not accept new content easy and be highly critcal about the pricing. So basicly saying: players not wanting to spend money on a player unfriendly game. PLAYER UNFRIENDLY GAME THAT HAS TORMENTED PLAYERS FOR WAY TOO LONG. I think those are the main reasons people do not buy content. What do you people think?

I'm perfectly fine with the current system EXCEPTING what they did this time hiding cards behind the solo adventure pay wall scheme. 700 gold per wing is too much for us free players, and my decks are starting to feel underwhelming, which they may do for a whole year.
@petersanders94554 жыл бұрын
I feel like this still wouldn't make the cut. The video first of all doesn't take into consideration Arena players; pack rewards are absolutely inconsequential to them, therefore this change in economy is practically irrelevant - if not worse, as you would need to refresh every single time, taking away the opportunity to refresh only when you want to plauy as a different class. But most of all: most players actually value new expansions more than old ones, and for a good reason; first, the new expansion usually presents new and exciting ways to build decks; second, and most importantly, new expansions tend to be stronger than old ones, making it so that paying players who buy pre-orders and packs right away get an immediate edge while f2p players who rely on packs earned throughout the following months will always be behind. This is an honestly bad decision. A reasonable one is literally just to change the daily rewards to the New Years one we just got; make all quests give from 50 to 80 gold - you can even take the 100 ones away - and give the same amount of dust, as the pain point of HS is always the dust economy. This would be enough to give players more freedom when building a collection, because they would get at the very least 6 legendaries to craft each expansion, or 12 epics and so on. That would be decent, without having much of an effect on the overall economy of the big spenders - as 6 legendaries per expansion are not nearly enough to exhaust all possibilities, butb they are to give consistent players the opportunity to have fun with each new expansion, even if they end up unlucky as hell in their pack openings

I've played HS since the beta, F2p the entire time. Heck I almost want to stream and teach people the tricks of how you can play and be pretty competitive going 100% totally F2p. The real problem with spending is that if you play and plan extremely well, there isn't any point to spending on very small amounts of packs or even large amounts! Why? Because it will have no impact on the "grand plan." When an expansion hits, I buy about 20-30 packs with gold and see what I have. I mess around with what I have, see what is decent, watch the meta for about two weeks. Then I commit to 1-2 strong meta decks that only need a bit more cards to finish. I craft with dust what is needed. And that is what I play the entire expansion. Quite comfortably too! It works especially well, when you play fairly casual for just daily quests, but you can if you want push legend, I've done it a few times just for fun. I feel no real usefulness doing so, I usually go for rank 5 and stop. Would 20 bought extra packs change any of this? Nope. They would not offer enough of a significant change to offer any new extra decks to play. With no idea what I would get they are useless. I also view HS like a mobile game, and honestly hate the idea of spending money to make no progress at all with a "digital" collection. Something that could poof at anytime. I do feel the developers should get something. But.. even after six years, there isn't anything there I feel is worthwhile to spend on. Now if they did something where for like 2.99, they gave you the entire expansion of cards. That is about the cost I view things like mobile game, expansion dlc additional content being reasonable. That might be something. If for certain you know your expense will give everything you need to build and play with whatever for the next three months. But, let's be honest HS would never go for that. Heck they just did an adventure for 20 dollars, I saw that and went... nope! Way too expensive. I don't know honestly if there will ever be a "good" economic solution. However, I never dip below 6k gold, and have 1-3 good meta decks every expansion. I HAS gotten a little bit harder to get cards needed for even a deck or two, due to epic card power level increasing, but even then. Do I have full sets? Nah, but that's fine, it has been for me for six years. Anyway, thanks for what you all do! It's very entertaining and enlightening too!

About the gold it seems a bit too over the top, it would be nice to implement but I think the higher ups in blizzard would never allow it. I recommend having more ways of temporarily getting cards (similar to league of legends) or like wizzbang (or however it was called) cards that help with doing quests. I do agree 100% that there should be a single player big quests that give out a big reward. I also think something to reward battlegrounds would be fantastic as well.

I typically pre-order AND I save my gold to purchase a bunch of packs when the set first comes out. Blizzard for several sets immediately had a brawlesium for Tavern Brawl as soon as the set came out. The finally broke away from this is the most recent pack, but it does show one key element - packs earned after the first week or two of the expansion have far less value to most players because everyone (including myself) want to have a competitive deck or two right out of the gate. I don't want to wait 3-4 weeks to finally open that one legendary I've been waiting for, so I will typically craft the legendary, build the deck, and move on. There was a time in Hearthstone when I would have supported your idea because a pack of the most recent expansion was worth something, but it has rapidly gotten to the point where you simply cannot wait if you want to have your decks be at all competitive. This is why saving up gold has been such a great solution for me and people like me. Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't keep playing...I have a decent amount of dust right now and I can craft a lot of stuff. Getting packs to turn into dust and to get the cards I care slightly less about, but would still like to try throughout the set isn't completely useless, but the main currency in the game for me would become dust, not gold. But the truth is, I likely would see the amount of gold I have when a new set is coming out and decide that I simply don't have enough to warrant even trying to get a decent number of packs, and the pre-order alone almost never gives enough to be even remotely satisfied, so I foresee myself becoming less interested in worrying about packs at all. Since I cannot collect everything up front and I don't want those later packs to be "wasted", I am personally less likely to bother with a pre-order and will just get my cards as I get them, understanding that I will need to craft card or just accept that I won't be as competitive for the first month or two of a set. This is just me, however - my situation is probably different than most people in that I have a limited amount of time to play. If there are enough people who feel this way, then Blizzard would be taking a risk that the number of people who are willing to pay money to be competitive day one outnumber the people who will stop buying altogether. The truth is, however, that people who are willing to pay do so for a reason and any large sweeping change is likely to lose some of those people. And people who don't pay aren't likely to start paying...

While I wholeheartedly agree with what you are saying, as a new free to play player some of these things are simply less impactful to me. However, the New Years quests that gave dust alongside the gold was absolutely 100% invaluable. I had been playing for two weeks with a cheap Murloc deck in wild, and felt entirely burnt out because the cards I want or even, dare say, experiment with were completely it of my reach unless I win around 15 games a day and completed the quests, even then only allowing me to get about 1 pack a day. The New Years rewards were an absolute godsend, I was able to get closer and closer to crafting a deck I like and wanted to play, and was able to map out with a somewhat reasonable timeframe to get the legendaries and epics I wanted to get. This made the game more enjoyable as I had set goals, and achievable in game wants. The dust economy, arguably the most important and impactful resource in the game, is far too difficult to accrue in an amount that matters. This has made it impossible to get my friends interested in the game, and thusly just as, if not more difficult, to get new players overall. I think a good point of the economy would be something closer to Clash Royale, where the biggest and best resources are found in the tier ladder, which incentivizes players to play. I love the content, and the ideas, please keep them coming!
@Reap3rHS4 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why non competitive players choose to not pre order or buy packs, it's because this doesn't provide enough, like if you don't play to much, you don't grind, 60 packs don't provide enough for you to have fun, yes you can build 1-2 competitive decks, but that's it, if you compare this to another game, for 50 euros, you will get full content, and you don't need to do anything else, in HS, in order to enjoy a full experience, you need to pay 50 euro( in my country), and still grind a lot, in order to have a full collection, and to experience and try anything.

I do agrre with the end part that if adventures are going to give cards, they need to help out players with resources but if its gonna be like RoS or SoU single player, then you dont have to help players. Something I thought that could be implemented is giving players 3 quests per day but you cant reroll and lose all of them next refresh so that players can spend more time playing completing quest. It gives players the ability to at least buy 1 pack per day or help players save up gold for next expansion.

Just going to ask this ahead of time. When the time comes and they are announced, could you please do a video covering Hall of Fame refund mechanics? It confuses a lot of people, and even for the more mindful there is a lot to consider based on your situation; like how much Dust you could have at the time, or whether or not you want cards in Wild. Many people aren't even aware of the potential value and might skip out entirely when the could've gotten something for nothing. I think you could do a perfect video summing this all up, and it would be directly beneficial to multitudes of people.

Suggestion: solo adventure cards should be craftable That way, people may still buy the adventure but would not be forced to, since they could always just spend dust to get the important cards In a way, it would be like a card bundle with extra content

My thoughts, there could be a weekly quest which gives you a generous reward. Some small reward when you login each day consecutively until you reach day 7 (big reward). Expand the store and have extra unique emotes you can pay and more hero portraits to buy.

As long as I remember I just buy the Welcome Bundle twice. Pretty much satisfied with all of the monetisation. I know the bundle are pretty expensive, but as long they come up with cheaper price option (like the welcome bundle) I will absolutely buy it.

Good idea with the cheaper thank you bundle I would hands down give $10 for 20. I am the type of person that waits for the $20 deals for holidays and events and recently the decent of dragon packs was the most satisfying pack opening I have had since it combined multiple pools of cards thus more legendary cards were granted as a result. I was thinking the brawls should either offer the recent set pack or better yet a pick your own pack system because I am very glad they brought the original sets to the shop rather than just the current years content.

im up for the idea of getting key golden cards of a expansion if you complete the set but there should not be a bonus unique legendary as a reward unless the legendary is something like "book of dragons" were using it gives you a random premade deck for the start of that expansion similar to zayle as it wont need to be unpdates and unlike zayle not being updated makes sense since it would be premades of that expansion and not others

I feel when it comes to monitization they aren't even at their full potential they could do other things as well for example emotes could be expanded and sold and alternate hero introductions. Adding this sort of stuff would allow them to make better bundles and give us more options to spend our money. Then hopefully they would feel OK giving the players more money

The fact that a new Gwent player can soon have a complete collection is EXACTLY what draws people to the game. I purchase some just out of gratitude that I can have a great gaming experience

Honestly, I will never spend $40-60 at once on a free game. NEVER. I may spend $5-10 at a time every once in a while though, so that "Thank You" bundle is a definite yes from me.
@philipooi944 жыл бұрын
hmm well if think they should reduce the gold amount but up the packs amount to what the video says roughly 200. So most of the expansion you can get the full set if you play everyday to get the packs/cards, but then you still probably pay for the adventures which is fine to me. A small bundle idea is also really good cause it turns non spenders into small spenders, if the small bundle has something cool attatched, it will be a big hit, like 1 legendary or a character skin. Activision is pretty much focused only on quarterly earnings though, so they need short term gains, so its always gonna be downhill.
@cooper53244 жыл бұрын
I definitely would buy the thank you bundle. It’s like a subscription fee that let’s me get a head start on expansions since I play every other week and don’t want to spend $50 on cards that will rotate. Also wild cards should be half the dust to craft.

I think they should add class progression systems like LoR does with regions, if you already had the cards you gained you would get full dust, there's no need to do something as complicated as you suggest, they could also increase the value of disenchant to cost/2, it's too inefficient to disenchant cards but it's also too frustrating to wait for them to appear in packs, especially epics and legendaries, you shouldn't be punished for opening a legendary you don't want, they could also give you a 1 week period where you could get full value for crafting/disenchanting the cards you crafted/disenchanted that same week
@jonathanvaknin87604 жыл бұрын
For company revenue, I would suggest micro-payments. Ads are completely fine in small amounts And they will bring a lot of money to the company, which in turn will motivate them to make a better in-game ecenomy Edit: one good example of implementation - purchasing packs by watching ads. That way it's also by choice of the player.
@CrokeyHigati4 жыл бұрын
I think doing more for monetization that caters to people who are willing to drop some cash every once and a while is a good place to start. The "Thank you" Bundle is a good example, but there could be more like monthly deals or seasonal deals that give higher returns on the money given but are limited to one time purchases.
@ioannisouzounis16514 жыл бұрын
I was f2p until recently. I preordered the 80E bundle but still found out that this is not enough to create actually good meta decks. Plus I didn't have cards from previous content which are still strong in the meta (like Zilliax). I ended up playing again budget versions of decks like face hunter, pirate warrior and token druid. So, after all I doubt I would buy anything in Hearthstone again because players have to keep purchasing bundles and packs in order to stay relevant, as I see it. Regarding Solo, I would never buy them with money. Especially the last adventure was so bad I wouldn't even waste my gold on it if it weren't for the new cards. I wish Blizzard would actually watch your videos and listen to the community :)
@webbmd8734 жыл бұрын
The main reason I play is for my card collection. I would be very happy if I could have an easier way of gaining cards, because right now I don't have a single set that is complete. The game is just too expensive. Rewards for having a collection sounds like having an achievement system, which Hearthstone definitely should have. Overall, I would prefer more rewards that you earn instead of the ones now that are just giving away. Blizzard definitely needs to increase the rewards for the end of the month ranking and give them for both standard, wild, Arena, and battlegrounds.

@Dushku4 жыл бұрын
The problem with awarding additional packs for hitting legend is that the difference between rank 5 and legend is mostly how many games you can play. Also, I disagree with making any quest reward a whole pack (including Tavern Brawl). Award gold and if somebody wants to use it on this pack or that--or an expansion/wing--then they can choose for themselves.

I just can't pay due to my country's economy making anything too expensive. However, the most necessary change, IMO, is a reward to simply playing the game. The quest changes were so good, because you didn't need to have many cards in order to win games with that class. Now you just have to play it. However, after I complete the quests, I barely play hearthstone. I just get rank 5 every season to get my golden epic, since I can't ever get legend, and 5~1 is almost the same thing, rewardwise. I just want to get more things by simply playing the game
@gianniaerts73524 жыл бұрын
I love Hearthstone, but I do not have the stamina to play daily due to a chronic illness. This sorta forces me to buy the preorder bundles to stay relevant. I was sorta okay with this until blizzard allowed a game crashing bug to persist on the ipad for over a month. Now I’m seriously re-evaluating my position. Blizzard showing more support and gratitude to players in general would do a lot to win me over.

For those who can fork out $80 and save gold for 3 months, this new set works fine, as it already rewards high pay with regular play, provided you have enough dust. Otherwise it's an additional$60-$80 to complete the set. However that is adding the $20 for the full dungeon/adventure mode. We're talking from $165-$200 in 2 months for the whole shebang. You could save up for the Playstation 5 with just 6 months of not playing Hearthstone. On the other hand, I'm glad with Battlegrounds and the Return of the adventure expansions. Tell u what, throw in a new character face and card back in addition to the Thank you developer pack and you got a deal. That way, you pay$50 - $60 with the pre-order, the rest goes to the Thank you developers at a later date. That way, you don't feel that $80 sting all at once and you still get a bang 4 the buck....but with a caveat. If say Blizzard was developing a new game mode and you have bought, say, 3 $80 pre-orders, you get beta-access for free. Not sure if tht made sense. Just a suggestion.

4:20 it should be done totally opposite. Players which finished month on rank 10 should have 10 paks On rank 5 should be 5 pack And on legend 1 pack. In your proposal "stronger"players will be much stronger. In my especially new players will be more encouragement to play.

I feel like one of the biggest problems is how rare epic and legendary cards are. I recently went through 30+ packs to get a one legendary and very few epic cards. Given that and how many bad legendaries there are - it just isn't a good value. When I pay ~20$ and maybe get one legendary and a couple of epics, I can't think but never again will I spend money on packs.

Hi, i like the idea of create better economy. I have some suggestions too. The first one is to extend card deck to 35. Interest to recreate deck from ALL. The second is to aprove 3 trades every month or something. Open a mod for 5 days so people can go in a place like AH to make trades there. Only 3 every month, it ll help a lot. Third aprove a deck swap that worth +- the same amount of mana. Maybe 1 time per month or something. With this way i can create a second build and trade it for a build that i like to have as second, and i like more than 2 decks. Or if i m mad enouph with my main build i can trade it if i boring with it and i ll continue play and no quit cause i bored my deck :D For deticated players like me that i like to create one top build, is rediculus to have 400 wins and still be with one deck (almost finished) and with 5+ legendary cards and not a single one golden on the main deck. (btw i bought some times packs). P.S. Your system to make money from people buying cards is not bad and i respect it. But if you insert a trade system like this, with restrictions, it ll help people create better decks for more competitive games and maybe more active people. I just care about my deck, i like to see it more complete, so with the number of 30, it looks great but is not complete.For complete need bigger deck. You can say that if i ll split to two decks ll solve the problem, but i say with 5 more will be epic.

It’s a collectable card game in which you collect cards and create decks, but everyone netdecks and wants full collections/ all the good cards from day 1. I don’t understand this. Why not try and have some fun collecting a bit more slowly and do it for free/ buy the adventures? Makes deckbuilding a lot more fun. You can always get a tier 1 deck pretty cheaply each expansion if you absolutely HAVE to be the most competitive.

What about a battlepass that lasts a whole expansion and gives you increased gold/additional challenges or quests/special golden cards that people pay for each expansion? $20 would seem like a fair price and make it worth about $40 to the player if they complete all the challenges brought by the pass.
