Enjoyed the diagnosis and repair,just got my first boat with johnson 15hp on it.for my retirment but the first two trips to lake was a bust,and your gray hose is dam straight up junk hose,exactly as you said that inner liner a very flimsy film more or less was torn at fitting n blocking flow.couldnt figure out on lake but when got home i did as you kept cutting till i got hard bulb it ran fine at home.second trip to lake started up fine coughed and died,found no spark at both plugs it was cdi-unit but putting that on i found the carraige bolt holding motor to yoke was nearly rusted thru and rusted into alum arms.had to drill out stubs was seconds from disaster, motor would have fallen into drink.fixed all that then decided to repaint whole works.ive had the boat half a yr maybe get two months use if lucky.murphys law if it can go screwy it will!snooky pa.

Any chance at a video of how the co pilot disc, plate and friction pads go on this motor?

Hodor N Eva…. Sorry this was a customer’s motor and all he wanted me to do is get it running properly, so I didn’t need to get into those areas.

Hello, I want to ask for help. The outboard motor shown in the video is similar in appearance and construction to mine. There is no data plate on my outboard motor. Can you help me with the model and year? Thank you very much

My only advice would be to lookup the HP on www.marineengine.com and go through each model numbers' diagrams to find the exact match to your motor. The model numbers are displayed as ranges but do not provide the year of manufacture.

Hey I've got a very similar mercury outboard as this, having a little trouble keeping it running, so you think if I upload a video you might be able to advise me on what could be wrong with it? Cheers luke

I have a 1980 20hp and I'm trying to find a way to hook up a sterring cable. I see your motor has an arm to hook up a sterring cable. Is that a custom part, or can I find one?
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
Devin Wieniewitz … This steering linkage arm is pretty common and easy to find try www.boats.net

@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 жыл бұрын
Good question I’m not sure if that either.

Hello, I have exactly the same motor, but it doesn’t have a gearbox, where can I buy it, can you tell me?
@LivetofishOutboardRepair2 жыл бұрын
The teoma4 …. I don’t know but you could try eBay and/or join a Facebook group “Mercury Outboards” for example. Many members have parts and even gearcases for sale. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.

It's the fuel connector.......
@LivetofishOutboardRepair Жыл бұрын
Mark Weaver…. Good guess but the fuel delivery problem was my fault. I didn’t route the fuel line to the carb properly causing a kink in the line. I placed the fuel line under the carb when it was supposed to be routed over the top of the carb. Ran great after that.

@@LivetofishOutboardRepair I have seen SO MANY of those Merc connectors...DOZENS over the years .... either LEAKING AIR or that little PIN in the connector on the outboard not pushing the BALL in the female side in ...so...sometimes fuel gets in sometimes no and sometimes NOT ENOUGH. THROW them and just hang an Evinrude Johnson on the rubber line.
