Kristin, you taught me how to use my Instant Pot when I first got it. As a 78 year old invalid, it has changed my life. I was buying most food cooked (a lot of fast food). Since I got the IP almost 2 years ago, I rarely EVER buy cooked food. Your videos are wonderful. I have one suggestion about cooking pasta in an Instant Pot. A different KZbin told me that you do not keep to cover pasta with water in an Instant Pot. Just make sure each piece of pasta is wet, and it will steam and cook perfectly. It comes out perfectly. Try it some time. It saves having too much liquid.

Frozen? You’d have to wait for it to thaw which takes way longer. Or microwave it which makes it chewy. Sometimes it’s not about how long but how much better it tastes. Plus with the instant pot you can walk away while it’s cooking instead of standing there watching it. Less cleanup too.

I use water and wine. You can also use beef broth. For the carrots and potatoes I cut them up in big pieces I use baby carrots. I put them in tin foil and Put them on top of the meat, and let it cook for about an hour and 15 minutes or 20. Let it slow release for 10 t0 15 minutes. The potatoes and carrots won't be mushy. The carrots are still firmish. Thanks to KZbin I have learned some tricks along the way! I am so looking forward to making you delicious recipes! P.s. Don't forget to deglaze the pot.

Just say that over here (UK) I’m diabetic type 2, so white rice is off the menu, but it is so easy to cook brown rice in my electric pressure cooker which I found difficult and took a long time on the hob, (I’ve asked for a good size Instant Pot for Christmas). This may be anathema to many but I cook 3 cups rice to 4.5 cups water and after 17 mins it’s perfect. I cool it quickly and it’s easy peasy to use with chilli or Thai red chicken. I’ve been using electric pressure cookers for years. I was on my 3rd on when the Instant Pot came out, and I consider myself a Rice expert in this area..lol But seriously, I do NOT like sticky white rice. 🍚 There’s no way that I’m serving it sticky. I use Basmati Rice, and I don’t use anything but rice and water. 1 1/2 cups water for every 1 cup of rice. Cook on Manual for 4 minutes! Doesn’t matter if you release the pressure or not, it comes out flaky and perfectly cooked every time. It’s very soft and tender, yet not at all sticky. I never use the rice button for that reason, that’s cooking it WAY too long. I also rinse my rice, I forgot to add. But if you want perfectly non sticky rice, try this.:))

@@friendlymomma That’s really odd. I definitely don’t cook giant batches, but this is the absolute only way that I ever cook rice, and I like my rice soft and done. Great video! My only suggestion for some of you out there, is that she generally likes things SUPER cooked. Feel free to reduce the time of everything that she cooks by 20% to see if you like it better. Perfect example is the 15 minutes vs 20 minutes for the sweet potatoes.

I only cook corn on the cob 0-2min depending how firm the kernels are. I don’t bother with a trivet for hard boiled eggs, they come out great and you can fill the pot with loads of eggs if you want.

I love all theses shortcuts and recipes. I have the cookbook and use it often, but these tops at the beginning aren’t in there. I saw there isn’t a link to print these today. Just a suggestion, it would be fabulous to have these printable somewhere. I know that’s more work for you, so I understand. But I find when I try to write it down as you say it, when I transfer it to computer to print I lose information or mix it up. Thanks! Love the IP and dump cake is my fav so far!!! Thanks for all Kristen!

I am Cuban & my family loves eating Picadillo. Ground beef & onions& green pepper & lots of garlic& tomato sauce & worcestershire & s little wine & Goya spices that come in a very small box & inside it has the little envelopes & lots of olives stuffed with pimentoes & raisins. You eat this on top of white rice. Has the consistency of Spaghetti sauce. Some times I eat it with boiled spaghetty or angel hair, just a little different . I like my Picadillo soupy some people like it dryer. You can stuff round disks of dough to make empanadas. Those come frozen. For the recipe look up Cuban Picadillo. Enjoy.

I love where you changed a couple of recipes to add cooked chicken instead of raw. We buy the Sam's rotisserie chicken and are always looking for ways to use that because there is so much meat in one chicken and it only costs $4.98 here! I've gotten where I don't like dealing with the raw chicken.

Buy a raw whole chicken from the grocery store. Wash it inside and outside. Stuff the cavity with celery, carrots and onion, rosemary and parsley if you have it , salt and pepper that dude. Rub oil or butter on the outside/skin. Cook for a few hours. Done! Easy and yummy. Cooking a meal for your family shouldn't be so difficult nor expensive.

Do you know why prepackaged shredded cheese doesn't melt as fast as freshly grated cheese. Because it has a powdered paper pulp coating on the shredded cheese to keep it from clumping.

Cellulose is a plant fiber that is added to foods to give texture and bulk. It also keeps shredded cheeses from clumping together. Even though these fibers are harmless, they will add carbs to your cheese

Curious about what happens to the nutrition of food that is frozen, thawed, cooked, frozen, thawed and cooked again? Does anyone know how much nutrients are lost? I like the idea of making extra for later. My kids moved out and it’s a little hard to switch to cooking for two instead of four.

Good point. Also, I was taught not to freeze food that had already been frozen once because supposedly it would make you sick. But not sure if that was my mom's paranoia? 🤷♀️
@a.katherinesuetterlin30282 жыл бұрын
@@GAwildflower It depends on the food, how it's prepared and what kind of container. Airtight is usually recommended, as a rule of thumb. A lot of information has been updated, so I would recommend researching things yourself rather than relying on fear-based assumptions from your mom. Trust me -- I am doing similar research just because I needed to separate my home cooking and food storage from my days in food service. 😅
