This...THIS...is great poetry. The great poetry of Rumi in the brilliant translation of Coleman Barks. The poetry all the greater since this is a translation. And translation is always a form of "failure", an imperfect copy. The original can never be brought into another language in its full true original form. Allah, God, the Christ, Yahweh, all humanity has been moving from the beginning towards THIS. Different times, different cultures, different words, different personal experiences...but the basic seeking, the basic urge, the basic journey... the same. There is the Sufi story: Four travellers - a Persian, an Arab, a Turk, a Greek - on a journey to a far place arrive at a village, hungry. They have a single coin, enough for one type of food. They argue about what to buy. The Persian wants "angur". the Arab wanted "inab", the Turk wanted "uzum", and the Greek wants "stafili". Another traveller, a linguist, passing by overhears their argument, he says give me the coin I will give you all what you want. At first they were wary, but in the end they gave him the coin. He returned with four bunches of grapes for all of them. "Grapes" - "Angur" in Persian ... "Uzum" in Turkish... "Inab" in Arabic... "Stafili" in Greek. They wanted the same thing without understanding... Sometimes without knowing, even though we may think we know.

Yousef Ghaneemah he was born in balkh in the north of Afghanistan. It was a major city back then with a lot of great scholars including his father bahauddin balkhi. Trying to teach me our history lmao. His family fled to Syria and then turkey when he was very young.
@mujahid-96305 жыл бұрын
Yousef Ghaneemah fuck man come with some facts otherwise stop hanging onto fairytales. Everyone knows that he was born in Balkh which was a part of Khorasan which is Afganistan now. Khorasan was invaded by arabs but was then back in the hands of Turks, Persians and afghans. Especially after the mongols killed almost 80% of the turkic and Persian population of Khorasan, it left a power vacuum which the afghans filled and not only that but afghans were the first tribe to inflict a heavy loss onto the mongols in the battle of Parwan which is right next to balkh the birthplace of rumi.
@mujahid-96305 жыл бұрын
Yousef Ghaneemah also, rumi’s father bahauddin had seen a dream and already knew of the mongol invasion. He packed up and left Afghanistan and went to Syria along with all his family and his young son rumi.

@AdamSiddiq5 жыл бұрын
Yousef Ghaneemah First of all, just because it’s on Wikipedia doesn’t mean it’s factual nor credible. So if that’s the argument you want to make, best to reference multiple sources that showcase this with evidence. He, his father, and his grandfather are all from Balkh, Afghanistan. Afghans are not Arabs. Second of all, you’re entirely missing the point that Ali made that I added upon. If you view Mawlana solely in racial terms, you miss out on everything he was speaking about the nature of us and the nature of reality. We are Love. We are energy. We are consciousness.
@AdamSiddiq5 жыл бұрын
@Yousef Ghaneemah you don't just go and say "im just stating the truth" and don't source any credible evidence lol. you haven't stated anything other than your opinion and you have failed to back it with evidence. enjoy the video.

How Rumi Destroyed My life He captures the imagination and directs them toward a self-destructive path of giving away material pleasures and physical comfort through periods of fasting to cause hallucinations and dread and preys on your conscience and uses the guilt to guide people towards depression and hopelessness Rumi is a hiding behind dark love directed towards the divine He claims to represent tolerance and universal love He claims that the spirit of his love dwells in every human heart His teachings lead to intense hallucinations especially during periods of hardship such as physical pain or dehydration He hides behind faith and spirituality but his teachings are full of hubris. This is evident in his teachings through a lack of any sort of acknowledgement of mistakes He captures the imagination and directs them toward a self-destructive path of giving away material pleasures and physical comfort through periods of fasting to cause hallucinations and dread and preys on your conscience and uses the guilt to guide people towards depression and hopelessness Some might remember a bearded Uber drive in the DC area who introduced people to Rumi in ignorance. Not ONE tiny word from Rumi obliges anyone to listen. Those that will not listen can go their merry way elsewhere and fashion their very own parameters, glorious or otherwise; however they like, wherever they like and whenever they like-.
