coming from a 28 year old, virginity is a construct and all that matters is only doing things youre comfortable with. if you don't want to ever have sex, don't. the vast majority of people don't care.

As a 27-year-old demiromantic demisexual who chose to be a virgin until I met someone I actually felt love for, both romantically and physically, and allowed us the time to get to know eachother slowly and built up more and more attraction Don't rush into it, give yourself time to explore and think about what you want and what your boundaries are in dating. Take your time and move at your own pace, no matter what any friends or others may have to say about it.

Don't lose it just to lose it. Find someone you care about to make it a bonding experience, if you both go into it caring only about enjoying each other rather than trying to feel good it will be a lot less stressful and much better!

I'm 23 now, I wish I could tell my 13 year old self that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to gender. Wearing makeup doesn't make you a girl, what you wear doesn't make you a girl, it's how you feel on the inside, and you're not a lesser individual because you think you're performing your gender incorrectly. Life is so much more fun when you just decide to be yourself regardless of all that!

it really sucks giving up friends. at 19 i had to give up a friend cuz she would ghost me on the day of plans that she had made. i also had a crush on her and realized that if shes cheating on her bf with no shame then what makes me think that she wouldnt do that to me. so i told her that i didnt want to make any more plans with her. it sucked cuz she was my only real life friend other than coworkers and my boyfriend

Yes, absolutely stand up for yourself, however also pick your battles based on which are putting you up against idiots or narcs. You'll never win against either, so the best way to stand up for yourself then is walk away. And if you're up against a person of level rationale and genuine persona, lay down your pride and take their words in stride. They may just be right.

Just to continue this conversation, here's some things I wish I'd known in my (early) 20s! 1. You're not weird, you're autistic and ADHD. 2. The best way you'll heal is to wish your enemies well. 3. DON'T QUIT YOUR JOB IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR FOR RETAIL IT'LL BE THE WORST JOB EVER. 4. Just because someone says they like you, doesn't mean you have to agree. 5. You don't have to make choices based on how other people (including parents) will react. 6. Don't be ashamed of your fanfiction. 7. You don't always have to agree with your parents. 8. You're not a girl. 9. Not all orgasms feel the same. 10. If doctors don't listen to you, get a second opinion. And also Reddit will be your best friend. Your pain is valid. 11. Let yourself have silly little hobbies and indulge in childish delights. 12. Being an adult is the best, because the older you get, the less you give a fuck. 13. YOU HAVE TIME. Don't think you have to achieve everything RIGHT NOW. 14. Sometimes the universe will point you in the right direction and you'll have to trust it. 15. Don't get that matching tattoo with your so called best friend. They are no friend to you. 16. Learn the difference between love and attachment. Also you're aromantic. Surprise! 17. Learn to advocate for your needs. It's okay to need adjustments. 18. Never stop performing, never stop making art. 19. DON'T LEARN TO DRIVE A MANUAL YOU'RE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR ANXIETY AND FAILURE. 20. The first step to learning to love yourself is learning to at least like yourself a little bit. Start small.

I love your list, so many of them could apply to me too, they are either things I've learnt about myself or am fighting to accept. Thank you for writing this out so clearly. I most of all agree with n°12, which is such a weird thing for me every year. I'd think "I'm the same age as that person was then!! How cool I can be more like them!" or just be happy I'm growing older. So yeah to growing up and learning new things about yourself :)

I 100% agree with the getting to know your grandparents as humans and not just the people that send you $5 on your birthday. Unfortunately I figured that out too late. I know virtually nothing about their younger years. I did talk to my grandpa when he was in hospice and asked how he and my grandma got together and oh my gosh I'm so glad I know their story! By that time all my other grandparents had passed away. My mom has also passed so now when I see my dad I basically interview him lol it's amazing the stuff you find out and it helps to understand some of their choices that otherwise I wouldn't.

Life can be disappointing when it doesn’t go the way you want, especially when you want to work in a competitive industry. for anyone who’s life isn’t going as they planned, it’s okay. It doesn’t matter really as long as you are happy and keep going. Everything will be okay, you have time.

20 feels like a big step. It's like... you're not a teenager any more and you feel like you're expected to be, like, an actual adult. Coming from someone on the other side, though (20 and not far off 21), nothing changes. No one expects you to be any more of a grown-up. You're still young and figuring it out, and that's allowed.

i had those same feelings last year when i was about to turn 20. it feels like a big step because now there’s a 2 at the beginning of your age but you won’t wake up in a couple of days having it all figured out or being a different person. as i‘m approaching 21, it definitely was a big year for me, not because of the number but because of what i learned, what i did in terms of pushing myself towards a better, less anxiety riddled version of me and so much more. i still don’t know what a tax is and how to do it, i still live with my parents. turning 20 is like turning any other age. the real changes come from your circumstances and your actions. you got this.

Man the thing about the conversation with the older loved ones. I’m 42 and my grandmother is 95. She was mentally healthy and lived by herself until last December and everything went downhill so fast. So on top of many other things she also had Dementia and has to live in a nursing home. Throughout my life she has told me things about herself, but I know I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have. I was busy being selfish unfortunately. Now, even though she hasn’t passed away yet, it’s too late to sit down and ask her just random questions about her early years and life before me. There are many things I’d love to ask her and I wish I hadn’t wasted my opportunities and I desperately wish I had asked my grandfather stuff before he passed away.

still in my 20's but something i wish i would've known sooner is that my friends don't hate me!! i'm really bad at getting in touch with people, and i'm working on that, but it's led me to believe that anyone i haven't contacted in the past year or so resents me for it. everyone else is just as busy as i am or just going through their own mental health problems and they've been so understanding of that. i've recently got back in touch with a friend i hadn't seen in 3 years and earlier today i ran into someone i hadn't seen in 4 years!! neither of them hated me for being distant and were happy to see me again. i put myself through so much stress thinking i pushed everyone out of my life and didn't even consider that they would be just as happy to see me again as i would be to see them

As a 21 year old who always wanted to be older when I was a teenager, I’d tell my younger self (and anyone who is currently a young teenager) to cherish those years. You’re only young once, don’t grow up too fast. You have the rest of your life to be an adult, and only so few years as a child and you’ll never get those super important years back. Take your time with things and enjoy it. ❤️

I'd tell younger me "thank you for holding on,". I'd never want to relive those years. Who says you can't do childish stuff as an adult? I saw Frozen 2 in theatre, at 18 when it came out. I've watched the She-ra reboot nearly ten times. I still take home cool sticks. Still sleep with a teddy. I hop on the swings at the park, and sing Disney songs. And I still giggle as poop humour from time to time. Don't rush into having kids, because you really don't need them as an excuse to be a kid. It truly heals your inner child if you went through a rough time to just have fun like a kid. Trust, it will help you live longer.

I'm a few years past 20 now, but I love looking back and seeing how much we've grown and learned throughout the years. And I appreciate you sharing this with us. Your videos always brighten my days and your stories have a way of being funny, vivid, and educational all at once.

I'm 22 and feel like my twenties have already been such a huge learning curve for me - I'm finally starting to get a sense of who I am as a person and feeling comfortable and confident with that. I know I've still got a longgg way to go so I really appreciate all the tips! It's good to know we're all figuring out life as we go

The tax thing is so real. As a adult in the US Taxes are so confusing especially since no one bothered teaching me about them. My mom just told me to let a AI do them for me and i almost got into fraud trouble for accidentally putting something in wrong and now im really paranoid and stressed when my W-2 comes in 😭

VALUE FRIENDSHIPS IS SOOOO IMPORTANT!!! Most of my friends from grade school moved away, making me feel like I didn't spend enough time with them. Once I was in middle school, I was in a very bad place (mentally) and I pushed away people that were the only good people that I had around at the time. Even sometimes now, I feel like I don't appreciate my friends enough, which is why I'm trying to work harder on actually cherishing the time I have with them because I don't know how much time I have with them.

I am 20 and 2 months today, so I’m very glad you decided to make this video :) I would tell younger me to get diagnosed with autism sooner because 17 was so late and middle school could’ve been so much easier

My advice would be to not give all of your affection and geeelings to people just because they pay attention to you, especially if it comes without a real relationship or feelings. Don’t let people use you or string you along.

Phil your bit about speaking to your grandparents really resonates with me. I had the exact same realisation a year ago when I turned 19 and realised I only have one grandparent with who I am able to spend time. and youre so right about how interesting it is to hear your older family members talk to you about what their 20s looked like, and what things youre able to relate to with their stories despite the social, generational and technological differences. It gave me a new found respect and adoration for my Grandfather which I regret not having sooner, and I'm sure you were the most lovely grandson for all of your grandparents

Great thoughts all around! As a 30-year-old, my main advice would be "there's a difference between liking someone for who they are and just being lonely- figure out what that is," because it would have REALLY saved me a lot of trauma and heartache if I had figured that out sooner. Assuming it was even possible, that is.

I concur to the speaking with your old relatives more. My grandma always had the best stories to tell and I loved learning more about her, so that she wasn't "just a grandma" but a great friend as well. Unfortunately, she passed away and I just wish I had more time to ask more questions and just listen. Talk to them while you can! :)

Loved this video Phil 💞 Without getting too sad, if I went back to myself 10 years ago (14 year old me) I’d tell her that our mum is the best person we’ve ever known and to spend as much time with her as you possibly can, there will be a time where you can’t call her with a silly question, so do it while you can x

#5 is so true. I treated my co worker like my best friend, telling him everything about my life and also when a shift went bad. Well he took that and twisted it to make me sound like I was chronically anxious 24/7 to my manager and nearly lost me my job. Thanks mate.... He has since apologised for betraying my trust but lesson bloody learnt ahahahhaha

I'm still in my 20s but I would tell my past self that she is allowed to take up space and she will be loved even if she doesn't make herself fit in at any cost. Though I think I knew that in theory and just needed the time to start believing it so maybe telling myself won't do any good.
