As a 27-year-old demiromantic demisexual who chose to be a virgin until I met someone I actually felt love for, both romantically and physically, and allowed us the time to get to know eachother slowly and built up more and more attraction Don't rush into it, give yourself time to explore and think about what you want and what your boundaries are in dating. Take your time and move at your own pace, no matter what any friends or others may have to say about it.

I'm 23 now, I wish I could tell my 13 year old self that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to gender. Wearing makeup doesn't make you a girl, what you wear doesn't make you a girl, it's how you feel on the inside, and you're not a lesser individual because you think you're performing your gender incorrectly. Life is so much more fun when you just decide to be yourself regardless of all that!

Yes, absolutely stand up for yourself, however also pick your battles based on which are putting you up against idiots or narcs. You'll never win against either, so the best way to stand up for yourself then is walk away. Just to continue this conversation, here's some things I wish I'd known in my (early) 20s! 1. You're not weird, you're autistic and ADHD. 2. The best way you'll heal is to wish your enemies well. 3. DON'T QUIT YOUR JOB IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR FOR RETAIL IT'LL BE THE WORST JOB EVER. 4. Just because someone says they like you, doesn't mean you have to agree. 5. You don't have to make choices based on how other people (including parents) will react. 6. Don't be ashamed of your fanfiction. 7. You don't always have to agree with your parents. 8. You're not a girl. 9. Not all orgasms feel the same. 10. If doctors don't listen to you, get a second opinion. And also Reddit will be your best friend. Your pain is valid. 11. Let yourself have silly little hobbies and indulge in childish delights. 12. Being an adult is the best, because the older you get, the less you give a fuck. 13. YOU HAVE TIME. Don't think you have to achieve everything RIGHT NOW. 14. Sometimes the universe will point you in the right direction and you'll have to trust it. 15. Don't get that matching tattoo with your so called best friend. They are no friend to you. 16. Learn the difference between love and attachment. Also you're aromantic. Surprise! 17. Learn to advocate for your needs. It's okay to need adjustments. 18. Never stop performing, never stop making art. 19. DON'T LEARN TO DRIVE A MANUAL YOU'RE SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR ANXIETY AND FAILURE. 20. The first step to learning to love yourself is learning to at least like yourself a little bit. Start small.

I love your list, so many of them could apply to me too, they are either things I've learnt about myself or am fighting to accept. Thank you for writing this out so clearly. How cool I can be more like them!" or just be happy I'm growing older. So yeah to growing up and learning new things about yourself :)

I 100% agree with the getting to know your grandparents as humans and not just the people that send you $5 on your birthday. Unfortunately I figured that out too late. I know virtually nothing about their younger years. I did talk to my grandpa when he was in hospice and asked how he and my grandma got together and oh my gosh I'm so glad I know their story! By that time all my other grandparents had passed away. My mom has also passed so now when I see my dad I basically interview him lol it's amazing the stuff you find out and it helps to understand some of their choices that otherwise I wouldn't.

I turned 20 in the summer. I always thought at this point I’d be in uni making films but I’m actually a barista and a casual worker at a few theatres back stage. Life can be disappointing when it doesn’t go the way you want, especially when you want to work in a competitive industry. for anyone who’s life isn’t going as they planned, it’s okay. It doesn’t matter really as long as you are happy and keep going. Everything will be okay, you have time.

20 feels like a big step. It's like... you're not a teenager any more and you feel like you're expected to be, like, an actual adult. Coming from someone on the other side, though (20 and not far off 21), nothing changes. No one expects you to be any more of a grown-up. You're still young and figuring it out, and that's allowed.
@wa11ie Жыл бұрын
i had those same feelings last year when i was about to turn 20. it feels like a big step because now there’s a 2 at the beginning of your age but you won’t wake up in a couple of days having it all figured out or being a different person. as i‘m approaching 21, it definitely was a big year for me, not because of the number but because of what i learned, what i did in terms of pushing myself towards a better, less anxiety riddled version of me and so much more. i still don’t know what a tax is and how to do it, i still live with my parents. turning 20 is like turning any other age. the real changes come from your circumstances and your actions. you got this.

Man the thing about the conversation with the older loved ones. I’m 42 and my grandmother is 95. She was mentally healthy and lived by herself until last December and everything went downhill so fast. So on top of many other things she also had Dementia and has to live in a nursing home. Throughout my life she has told me things about herself, but I know I didn’t pay as much attention as I should have. I was busy being selfish unfortunately. Now, even though she hasn’t passed away yet, it’s too late to sit down and ask her just random questions about her early years and life before me. There are many things I’d love to ask her and I wish I hadn’t wasted my opportunities and I desperately wish I had asked my grandfather stuff before he passed away.

As a 21 year old who always wanted to be older when I was a teenager, I’d tell my younger self (and anyone who is currently a young teenager) to cherish those years. You’re only young once, don’t grow up too fast. You have the rest of your life to be an adult, and only so few years as a child and you’ll never get those super important years back. Take your time with things and enjoy it. ❤️

I'd tell younger me "thank you for holding on,". I'd never want to relive those years. Who says you can't do childish stuff as an adult? I saw Frozen 2 in theatre, at 18 when it came out. I've watched the She-ra reboot nearly ten times. I still take home cool sticks. Still sleep with a teddy. I hop on the swings at the park, and sing Disney songs. And I still giggle as poop humour from time to time. Don't rush into having kids, because you really don't need them as an excuse to be a kid. It truly heals your inner child if you went through a rough time to just have fun like a kid. Trust, it will help you live longer.

To piggyback off the exercise thing - if you have a joint disability and find most exercise to be off limits for you (hEDS gang), LEARN TO SWIM AND GO ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK. Of course this depends on accessibility; I'm in a part of the UK that has a lot of very cheap leisure centres as part of a scheme to get people exercising more, but it's so good for you and you get support from the water even as you're working against it. Obviously everyone should go at their own pace and do what is best for them but swimming is so peaceful to me lol I'm a big swimming stan now Also just wanted to say I really appreciate this video as a new "mature" uni student (mature meaning... 22) as I really don't feel very mature at all, the whole institution of adulthood is so terrifying and overwhelming (especially when you're neurodiverse, shoutout audhd gang you're doing so great) and it's really nice to see that everyone makes mistakes and has regrets and is kinda just... guessing their way through half the time cuz it's so easy to believe everyone else is doing everything easily and you're the only one struggling. My advice would be to not give all of your affection and geeelings to people just because they pay attention to you, especially if it comes without a real relationship or feelings. Don’t let people use you or string you along.

something i’d tell 20 year old me from a year ago is: a guy won’t ask you to hang out one on one and not mean it as a date. a guy won’t message you on insta just to be friends. there are so many college dating nuances ur not privy to. just hang out with a girl. also try to go to parties

Loved this video Phil 💞 Without getting too sad, if I went back to myself 10 years ago (14 year old me) I’d tell her that our mum is the best person we’ve ever known and to spend as much time with her as you possibly can, there will be a time where you can’t call her with a silly question, so do it while you can x

college parties can be so fun ‼️ even as a queer antisocial girl, i was always able to find another group of queer people who didn’t know what they were doing there 😭

I’m about to turn 29 in a few months.. thank you for helping me get through 16 thru now. And I’m proud of all the things you have done and are doing. For advice for my past 18 year old self.. please don’t lose your fun bubbly self to what society wants you to be. Continue being happy with who you are. 💖

I'm 29 so almost out of my 20's and I would tell my past self (and anyone else who's struggling with it) to not care so much about what other people think (and within that stop obsessing over your body and how you look). I spent a lot of time worried about my weight and how people would perceive me. I always put on a full face of makeup and nice outfit because I didn't want people to judge me for being fat, but you know what? No one cares, and if they do then you don't need them in your life. There are a lot more important things that I wished I focused on. Focus on your friendships, your family, your studies, your job, and just cultivating a sense of calm and joy in your life.

Thank you Phil, I've been watching you since i was 14 and am turning 23 in a couple months(nearly 10 years wow), and honestly you and Dan have always given me such good advice and made me feel less alone. Thank you for being my friend, even though you don't know me, you have brought me so much comfort and joy over the past decade, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. (and thank you too Dan)

All of this is such great advice! I’m about to turn 25 (side note, holy BANANAS-) and definitely have internalized some of these lessons from my own life experiences, but I definitely learned and/or considered new things from this, and I always appreciate you so much! 💖

Phil your bit about speaking to your grandparents really resonates with me. I had the exact same realisation a year ago when I turned 19 and realised I only have one grandparent with who I am able to spend time. and youre so right about how interesting it is to hear your older family members talk to you about what their 20s looked like, and what things youre able to relate to with their stories despite the social, generational and technological differences. It gave me a new found respect and adoration for my Grandfather which I regret not having sooner, and I'm sure you were the most lovely grandson for all of your grandparents

I concur to the speaking with your old relatives more. My grandma always had the best stories to tell and I loved learning more about her, so that she wasn't "just a grandma" but a great friend as well. Unfortunately, she passed away and I just wish I had more time to ask more questions and just listen. Talk to them while you can! :)

to my high school self: you are allowed to prioritize your wellbeing over school. decent grades (they don't even have to be good) can be useful, but they're not a measure of your identity and the world won't end if you fail some things or take a break in order to care for yourself

Great thoughts all around! As a 30-year-old, my main advice would be "there's a difference between liking someone for who they are and just being lonely- figure out what that is," because it would have REALLY saved me a lot of trauma and heartache if I had figured that out sooner. Assuming it was even possible, that is.

i had a friend pass away last year when we were 21 and as sad as it is, having to experience that is what made our friend group reunite and foster our friendship even more. since the pandemic we had become so busy with uni and work and our own separate lives. i think that you need to remember to make time to spend with your friends. you can have periods of disengagement but at least try and let them know you’re thinking about them. and if they can respect whatever is happening in ur life that means you haven’t spoken to them for a while then they are the good ones that you need to protect even more!

I'm only 22 so it hasn't been too long since 20, but, I wish I could tell my old self that my self worth was worth more than being in a toxic relationship for 3 years with my ex, and that even when I thought he was the best I'd ever have, in reality the best I'd end up having would be my current fiance who treats me exactly the way I should've been treated for those 3 years I was with my ex. I just want to tell my old self that it does get better, and to always make room for myself and not worry about making someone else happy when they don't even make you happy or treat you the way you want to be treated. I'll never get those years back but atleast I have the rest of my life to spend with my amazing fiance and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love that man to death and I'm so happy he puts up with me 😂💕

I'm still in my 20s but I would tell my past self that she is allowed to take up space and she will be loved even if she doesn't make herself fit in at any cost. Though I think I knew that in theory and just needed the time to start believing it so maybe telling myself won't do any good.

I don't think I've hit play on a video so fast in my life. I'm dying "flop room!" Awesome video, Phil, and you're wearing my favourite top 🥰 We've all done a piggy back race while intoxicated. 😂 I'd tell my former self to learn how to swim. I still can't swim and now I'm terrified I'll drown in a puddle.
