Even Turkish and Chinese have a shared word water -su / and Korean Mongolian Turkish shares Mandu / mantı (some dumpling style food) and many more with Mongolian language like bal (honey) arslan (lion) sü/süt(milk). Turkish language is like a journey from east to west . It shows the path we have been through .

Love your programs for learning♥️ in this video, you were mentioning about an apartment and a flat in English. Here in America, an apartment is different from a flat. They are separate type of living buildings. We have many names for different types of living facilities that can be quite confusing. Keep up the great work... I'm learning a lot of Turkish from you and it's easy with your programs🥰🥰🥰

Dear Can, I usually find your videos "çok güzel". Yet, to put things a bit straight, most of those words are not "native" in English; rather loanwords shared among a variety of modern languages, both in Europe and worldwide. Please find here a checklist about their arguably pristine roots. Both Turkish and English may have borrowed them at some point in time from different sources. telephone ... from Greek (cultism) hamburger ... German university ... Medieval Latin jacket ... Middle French address ... Latin via Old/Middle French alcohol ... Arabic sigarette ... French chocolate ... Nahuatl via Spanish and French apartment ... Latin via French and/or Italian television ... Greek + Latin (cultism) music ... Greek popular ... Latin social media ... Latin + Latin (cultism) toilet ... Middle French card ... Greek via Latin basic ... Greek via Latin

Hi Can, I really appreciate your videos but I am sorry you are making a mistake : most of the words adopted by Turkish language come from France, not from UK or USA. For example, if üniversite came from English, it would be written üniversiti. I made a special note book about Turkish words borrowed from French : do you think that kürdan (in French cure-dents) is borrowed from English ? Dents is the French word for teeth. Tirbuson in French is tire-bouchon, where is the English corkscrew ? In Küaför, I can find French coiffeur, no track of hairdresser… And so, and so, and so ! You are young, maybe nobody taught you that England kept a lot of French - or Latin - words after the Norman invasion. Maybe you don’t know that until the XXth century French was the universal language for diplomacy. And that in Pera (Beyoglu) Turkish people of the 1900 could not ask for their way if they didn’t speak at least French (eventually Greek or Italian). Best regard from a French woman whose great grandfather war a translator for the last Sultans.

Merhaba Can and thanks for your fun lessons. By the way, let me ask you this question: Do you happen to know how many Arabic vocabularies Turkish contain? At least %30 of Turkish words are taken from Arabic... That's after the adamant transformation towards Latin languages. Take your favorite delicious drink "kahve" to begin with. And the examples are innumerable. However Turkish is one of my favorite languages that I adore and hope to get the hang of! Selamlar kardeşim, kendine iyi bak!!

Hello, I can see that you are a young man, it is the reason why you do not know that most of THESE WORDS ARE BORROWED FROM FRENCH, not from English. My father was born in Pera (today Beyoglu) in 1916, during WWI, before the Republic. His grandfather was a translator for the Sultan and spoke 17 languages. French was the main foreign language in Dolmabahçe palace… and in Constantinople ; actually, there are around 2,500 Turkish words coming from French. If it had been English, how can you explain the word « puset » which is « stroller » in English and « poussette » in French ? Or « kürdan » which is « toothpick » in English and « cure-dent » in French ? Or also « tirbuşon », in English « corkscrew », in French « tire-bouchon » ? … etc, etc. Those 800 words are mainly common in English and in French (except of course sandwich !), this is why you may be mistaken ? Greetings from France 🇫🇷
