This is an awesome topic. Being a localization/international program manager, I'm particularly fond of the localization books and have picked up some during the past year. I also pre-ordered the Atari art book and forgot to bring it with me to PRGE to get it signed by Tim. ARGH! I look forward to more videos about game books.

I have a huge book collection, I absolutely love collecting guides, art books, ones about history, magazines, etc. Especially spanning the various generations. It’s always fun going back and looking at older magazines, or guides. And heck, old guides tend to get me playing it’s paired game and finding things I missed originally! It’s a shame that guides didn’t really pick up until the PSOne generation.

I am obsessed with any video game related physically printed media myself, and it's a real treat when you share your library Riggs! Some I haven't heard of, while it's nice to get an actual close up look at the physical product for the others I don't own myself yet, but intend on getting. HG101's publications are beyond amazing and some of my favorites. Who says well done game journalism in physical print is dead?! These writers and editors are keeping the passion alive, and I can't show them enough gratitude and respect. I'm sure you've heard of it, but have you seen _Game Machines 1972-2012, the Encyclopedia of Consoles, Handhelds, and Home Computers_ ?

Well great, and no problem! I gotta say though, there are two editions, and the first edition if you can find it is steep. The latter is updated to 2012, but both are very comprehensive, technical, and great reads!

Whoa! I had a couple of the Worlds of Power books when I was young, the Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania ones. I used them to write book reports in the 5th grade! It's cool that I can buy those on Amazon. I also had a really cool Super Mario Bros. choose-your-own-adventure book where you try to collect as many coins as possible. That was a lot of fun, but I've never seen it since.

I love video game books, it really started with the old manuals, and then the strategy guides which I really enjoyed all the art and maps and background lore and cool info that fleshed out those worlds I love so much in games. I have a nice collection now, including Hyrule Historia, Legend of Zelda Arts & Artifacts, The World of the Witcher, The Skyrim Library Volumes 1 - 3, The King's Quest Companion (a strategy guide AND novelization of King's Quest 1 through 7), Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary Handbook (in Japanese but with loads of art and screenshots!) A whole bunch of strategy guides including some really awesome hardcovers from Fangamer for Stardew Valley, Earthbound, and Mother 3, my latest pickup is actually a paperback novelization of Planescape: Torment, so I'm always looking for some great video game books.

The only video game book I own is the Video Game Quest book by Jon C.A. Dekeles first edition 1990. I paid .99 cents at the Electronics Boutique. Its a great book that has a section about the past present and future of video games. Lists all games available at the time for systems: sms, genesis, nes, game boy, tg-16. Soft cover text book style with box art and pictures of systems in glorious black and white.

I got Brett's "Classic Home Video Games" books on the Kindle, and the app for Pat's book (as Pat's book, like the Hero System core rulebook, is I've heard described in RPG-fan circles as a "Bullet Stopper"). I've also been getting the HG101 books (and I've also written a couple of articles for the site - thus far my only professional works of game criticism) on the Kindle as well, as the Kindle versions make for better bathroom reading. I still own the Mega Man 2 novel. Speaking of stuff bought from Chris Kohler - I got a copy of Metroid for the NES from him - finished my collection of all the Cartridge Metroid games that way (well, almost all the cartridge - I need to get Samus Returns now). Do you have a link to where I could get the Super Nintendo Compendium?
