I spent almost 20 years in the commercial construction industry as an electrician and have spent the last two years in residential construction with flooring and tile. I am extremely impressed by what I see in this video! This laser is on par with the top name brands used in the construction industry. I’m very happy to see something of this caliber in the DIYer/ small business budget option. DOVOH for the win!

@ thanks I appreciate it. I bought this device to measure the grade along my garage because my neighbor built up the grade by 6 inches causing flooding to my garage and I'm trying to find other drainage opportunities around the perimeter which may not exist. This new tool I hope Will easily allow me to evaluate where level stand along the grade. Within 2 feet of my garage foundation he built up levels that now exceed my foundation so when it rains a lot water builds up along my garage and flows inside my garage as well as my driveway. It's awful having neighbors that don't care about what they do to you. It's natural drainage and you not supposed to be interfering with it Plus why would they built a garage foundation 2 feet away from a higher grade. 50 years no problem and then my neighbor does this

I bought the same basic model to use for my basement remodel (a WETOLS green 3-axis, for wall layout & dropped ceiling)... thinking I'd rarely use, but I've reached for it so many times over the last 3 years that it became a must-have IMHO. I'm literally using it this week for can/pancake lights and molding for my family room remodel. Saves so much time and worth every penny. Do yourself a favor and pickup a few extra laser targets (2-4 of them)... they are super handy for ceiling and flooring layouts.

If it is sunny it is very hard to see outdoors. You would need to use the green sight plate and preferably in the morning /evening / overcast. If it was going to be used outdoors a lot I would say buy the outdoor model with the more powerful laser

If you're a chair maker (or chair dabbler like me) lasers are a godsend when aligning chair legs for correct, consistent, splay and rake when you're drilling. I also used one when installing windows and French cleats (which is how I found your channel in the first place) to turn that shed out back into a shop. Really liked the video... It's almost like your reading my mind! 😮 I'm in the process of remodeling my 20x34 shop... I purchased a good Lazer level based on the brand... wrong decision! The batteries don't last, maybe 4-5 hrs of use before they need to be changed out. So I bought the rechargeable ones and the last about 2½ hrs and have to be changed! When I was installing the 6" dust collection system and the 10 @8' LED lights (suspended) at 8'h, it was a real pain being in the middle of the project to take it down, change the batteries and then reset the Lazer to get back to work... allot of loss time messing with the Lazer! Better word would be frustrating! I was down to the last 3 lights when it went down again! I was taking it down (to replace the batteries, I lost my footing on the last rung and it slipped out of my hand...needless to say, no more Lazer. Yep, you guessed it - not covered by warranty 😢 so almost a total loss! Ended up using a line level to get the job finished. Haven't had the money in my budget to get another one. Being 69, I think I might have overstepped doing a project this big, but still enjoy a good challenge 😊... just wish I was younger... don't we all. Haven't heard of this brand... but really impressed with this blog and the capabilities ... my broken Lazer didn't have the same capabilities and it cost me almost three times as much (on sale)! I've gone back and watched every one of your blogs... Your honest approach and presentations are really great 👍 Keep up the great work... I know your channel will grow! 🎉 Hope ya have a blessed day 😌
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
Wow that sounds frustrating! Yeah, I do like how this laser can be directly plugged in, especially if you’re going to be doing a long-term project where you need to leave, it mounted in the same position for days. Yeah I hadn’t heard of the brand either, but I really looked into them before I said yes on the video, I like specialty companies where this is the only thing they do and they’re trying to do it very well and break into the market at a good price point. When you go onto Home Depot and you see a Bosch for $500 you know that 99% of people who aren’t professional contractors aren’t going to buy it so being able to get those capabilities at a good price is a win

The one that I showed in the video is their top-of-the-line indoor one, they have one more unit that’s higher tier that’s meant for outdoors so it’s brighter. For my personal use case when I did my fence outside, it’s not like when you’re inside and you see the line everywhere, it’s more that you’ll see it touch the item that you’re doing if you’re up close to it, of course doing it in the afternoon or on a overcast day, makes the lines more visible

Great tips! I would probably use it - at least initially - for installing French cleats in our garage (my workshop). I have plans for doing that, & have NOT been looking forward to using my regular 4- or 6-foot i-beam level! Another cool use, at least for laser levels in general, is doing hand lettering. You can tape your paper/card/envelope/whatever onto a mat with a grid printed on it - lining the top or bottom edge of what you're writing on up with one of the grid lines on the mat - and then position your laser level so the beam shines across the paper. Of course, you have to line the beam up with a line parallel to the one the edge of your paper is lined up with, but it gives you a visible guideline to help ensure you keep your writing from going wonky. Not sure how or if that would transfer to woodworking (maybe painted signage...?), but I still think it's pretty cool. I make handmade greeting cards, & learned this from another card maker on KZbin (where else? LOL). Anyway, thank you for sharing your tips & tricks, & for doing the giveaway. Have a wonderful day!

I've been looking at laser levels fro a couple of months now, trying to decide what to buy, and then you make this video :D. Our house was built in ~1948, and I don't know if anything was square in it ever. Getting ready to do a patio, privacy fence and a ceiling in the basement. I'm finding string to be a challenge. I have some trauma issues with water, so using a water level isn't going to happen. The biggest thing w/ these laser levels I've been looking at is the distance. Use case is inside vs outside. I can find one that's usable inside.... but not outside. So if the K3 won't work outside... please pick someone else and tell me to buy the K4 :D
@BitnerBuilt

To use this one outside, you would want to use the reflection plate, I would probably go with the powerful one however, as the one I was showing is a little difficult to see outside without the plate

We just bought a house, so I could use the laser around the house for all the upcoming projects! And there will be a ton of projects :D I don't know if you mention that in another video but here my question: Are you a contractor?
@BitnerBuilt

I’m an entrepreneur & I have had contracting based businesses mixed in there. I currently own a commercial Christmas lighting business for the past 13 years, we do homes and businesses, but we also do giant light shows where we’re constructing entire public venues from scratch, that crew does landscape lighting and commercial exterrior lighting in the off season. I have constructed two of my own houses from foundation to finishing work . Woodworking has been a side business for me for 5 years in my off season from lighting. Primarily doing custom poker tables , indoor/outdoor rock walls and ninja warrior courses. I have also owned businesses in student loans, restaurants, advertising and marketing, medical products, liquidations, and many more 😂 I have been thinking about doing a KZbin channel for a while, and even pre-filmed a whole bunch of videos, but it wasn’t until I had a sponsor offer to supply all my tools and everything if I would make the videos then I said sure why not I’ll give it a try! Noting to loose and only free tools to gain. And 3 mo later here we are.
@WoodyWoodworker
@WoodyWoodworker Жыл бұрын
@@BitnerBuilt that's quite an interesting background story! It's always so interesting for me what businesses are out there. I never thought that Christmas lighting business is a thing, but it makes sense since everyone in the US loves Christmas (I am originally from Europe). With the house I have so many interesting projects coming up that I thought of doing an instagram account or something to show people in Germany how thing been done in the US.
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
@@WoodyWoodworker yea I am a very niche business but I only have to work hard 4 mo a year and I do VERY well with that… on your instagram builds, do it! The honest thing about these platforms is it’s a business that has little to no risk. Only your personal time. So document some stuff throw it out there and see what happens. If it takes off great if it doesn’t oh well, you didn’t put a lot into it and didn’t loose money. I thought it was going to take me a year until I reach the monetization threshold with KZbin and I reached it in three days after putting out five videos. (Which I want to say is crazy fast but who knows 🤷) so you never know!

how do you do No. 16 Drainage & Slope? Does my laser level *need* a pendulum lock to prevent damage to the pendulum? will the laser work when the pendulum is locked?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
So it’s a bit involved to explain in a comment, for drainage and slope you’re gonna need a grading rod to pair with your laser. Do a KZbin search there’s a lot of instructional videos on how to do it. If you have an auto leveling laser, then it should have a pendulum lock, you need a pendulum lock to prevent damage. Yeah when the laser is locked, it still fires the laser out every direction. It just doesn’t auto level, there’s many instances where you will leave it in the locked position because you’re trying to project the line somewhere in the level of it doesn’t actually apply.
@g-lurk
@g-lurk Жыл бұрын
@@BitnerBuilt yeah projecting a straight, but angled, visible line outdoors is my main objective - actually doing grading/slope work isn't critical for me. Can you recommend a level that can lock and also provide sufficient brightness for outdoor use?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt Жыл бұрын
@@g-lurk OK so if you don’t need the auto leveling function you’re able to buy a much more affordable standard laser level that’s rated for outdoors. Obviously 3d, 4d, rotary levels have much more functionality in the long run so you might want to consider what your use cases are if you want to spend more money on those. I have to say that I’m very happy and impressed with the laser that I showed in the video, and it is my onlypersonal owned laser. Now I sold the other one that I had. So I’d be reasonably confident in any of their other outdoor models. I did on a model similar to the Bosch GLM400C when I was building my house, and it worked well outdoors. I had a black and decker and DeWalt one that I wouldn’t recommend. Outside of that I don’t have any personal experience with a specific one to be able to tell you which one to buy.

I am getting ready to start construction on my new shop in a few weeks and this would be a huge help in laying out footers and joists, as well as a whole host of other uses. I think you have sold me on it, that is if i dont win the giveaway. Keep up the great content. Youre well on the way to 10k.

Thanks! yea I know its crazy! I hadn't heard of Dovoh either but since I have owned one prior from a major brand I can say this is on par to that one in quality of build. I actually filmed the part of me dropping it 3 times and it still doesn't have a scratch soooo it's well made lol! Especially at the price. Their 3D laser is 50% off right now till the 9th so only $75, that's just an amazing price. But if you're going outside you might want to look at their most powerful one. When I filmed outside it was a bright sunny day so I could see the laser on objects when I was close but not the full line, (but this was the indoor one) Good Luck on the shop!

I’ve still not installed those French Cleats on my wall yet. Using a DOVOH laser would be ideal for getting that first bottom row level. I’d likely also use it like you showed, to get fence posts level and plumb, when it comes time to replace them. My wife is always hanging multiple items on the walls and wanting them level, but we end up off-setting them . 😂 My wife has also asked me to make some sort of cabinet/shelf feature in our TV nook. Having a multi-line laser would definitely be of use during that project!

I just bought a 4 beam laser but what's the point of the 2 horizontal beams as you cant adjust the distance between them. They are set at the distance between them on the unit? Am I missing something here?
@BitnerBuilt
@BitnerBuilt 7 ай бұрын
It’s just to be able to get closer to your surface. For example if the horizontal laser was only on the bottom, and then you needed to do something like crown molding up at the ceiling, the height of the laser might actually impede you from being able to put the laser where it supposed to go putting a laser on the top allows you to get really close to the ceiling and the at the bottom allows you to get really close to the bottom of the unit if you’re working on the floor for example

One thing I’ve used my laser level for is when making shop cabinets. My, as most, garage floor slopes towards the garage door. I’ve used my level to simulate the surface of my bench and then measure the height of that surface to the floor to make legs that accommodate for the slope. Not the best description but hopefully understandable.

I sold precision sensors. If something happens to a certified instrument (inadvertent droppage) you need to recertify the sensor or recalibrate it. I cringed when you intentionally knocked this tool on the floor. I know about the lock assembly but I would check the level out before using it again. I think a procedure would be simple by projecting a line on the wall and rotate it 180deg to double check. I have a similar unit that you showed and love it!
