Here is a story from the time before dash cams. I was a young long haired hippy driving my 1946 Chevy pickup on state route 2 in WA. around 1979 and tooling along in the left lane of a divided 4 lane . Stater pulled me over for going too slow in the 'fast lane'. I was doing 50 in a 55. No cars anywhere around. It was obvious he just pulled me to cause trouble. I am fairly certain I wasn't breaking any laws, but he let me off with a warning. Such a nice guy. So I proceeded to to re-enter traffic and immediately went into the left lane but was doing 55 on the nose. Haha! He was all butt hurt and pulled me over instantly and just took my license and said " A ticket is coming ". 😠 Back then there wasn't any restriction about the left lane, you didn't need to be passing anyone to use it. He had raced up behind me so fast that I was certain he couldn't have known my speed. I cheerily accepted the ticket and looked it over and lo and behold officer butthurt hadn't filled in the space for my actual speed at the time of the incident. I knew I had him. Went to court in front of the judge and explained exactly what happened, officer butthurt was squirming. The judge looked over the ticket I handed him and then gave the cop a look that , well, it wasn't good. He asked the cop a couple of real dry questions, glared at him some more, and said "case dismissed". Officer butthurt wouldn't even look at me. He did the walk of shame in front of a full courtroom. It was a good day, for a 18 year old hippy kid.😎 👍

When an officer clearly writes a bogus ticket and it gets dismissed, the officer should have to pay the fines of the infraction, and have that infraction go onto the officers permanent driving record. Also, the officer should have to pay the person (out of the officers own pocket) for the person's time that was wasted going to court, lost wages, and any other costs they incurred during the process.

Sorry but if whoever the driver of the rig its hard to beleive he is doing the speed limit in all those clips as he is always in the left lane passing most all drivers. Then in that restricted work area space is driving like a moron. Tries to pass and then tailgates the other rig. I do not want to bother timing the passing landmarks for actual VASCAR speed but...... If not most states have laws about rigs in the left lane especially when there is more than 2 lanes for a given direction. Even then they must be going the max speed limit regardless if they are passing or not and must give right of way to any other vehciles that come up on them just as all other vehicles are suppose to when in the far left lane and is why its called a passing lane. This driver based on the videos seems like riding the left lane. Rigs in the left lane are dangerous many times. They slow going up grades which causes other drivers to lane hop around them and it causes backups both of which create accident conditions. With all that said in the first clip the LE was a jerk. He may have wanted you out of the left lane as he wanted to pass you but you had every right unless it was restricted in that area to go back in the left to pass.

These are examples of the speed limits, and while my trucks can run faster, my drivers stay below 80 unless necessary to pass. I ask my guys to run at least 5 mph below the limit, at minimum. @Muhanoid
@Muhanoid 5 жыл бұрын
@@MaximusPsychosis actually there might be some special regulations for dash cams. It is best to check if they exist in state before purchasing. Ex, pixels, sound recording, width/height in degrees of view. If I remember right, there is a list of requirements for camera in Russia, otherwise it gets dismissed in court as irrelevant / invalid evidence
@MaximusPsychosis
@MaximusPsychosis 5 жыл бұрын
yeah, you're right, here in Australialand, ive been told that the date and time needs to be exact, or its dismissed, insurance companies will just dismiss it due to some legalities, most chinzy cameras cannot hold the date'n'time when the power is off.. but all i can think is turn that off, they have nothing to date it too, other then the aftermath looks to be the same on the footage, and when windows looks at a file, it updates the modified file date'n'time, so that cannot be used. if i filmed it on 8mm film, there is no time stamping on it, still can be evidence.. But yeah, i think there is things along the lines of must see oncoming and following licensing plates in the dark, must be able to recognize people, etc etc.. but they way i see it, footage is 100% better then word of mouth.
@Muhanoid
@Muhanoid 5 жыл бұрын
@@MaximusPsychosis agreed that it is better in general sense, but law is law. Also, if camera loses date/time when off it means it needs connection to external (car) battery. Also it is possible to glue digital clock within camera visibility. But that needs to be solidified in court by judge verdict or some other bureau that can say (with stamp of their jurisdiction power) "yes this is valid" or "no, this is not allowed". About modification of file. It needs to be in "read only" mode. Some flash cards have a switch that forces all content into read only mode. Once again, there needs to be a regulation that explains how file must be handled. Does court recognize only original file on camera card or copy with same hash (exact copy with zero modification) applies as same file? What if evidence (original) is lost? Would copy be valid if it has all same parameters, except when it was created due to how windows writers time of creation and modification? PAPERWORK!

Except for one thing... There were plenty of other tractor trailers on that exact stretch of highway passing each other, as as illustrated in this video. That guy was just taking two lanes because he was afraid to pick a lane and stay in it. If you're afraid to operate your vehicle under certain conditions, then you have two options from which to pick one: 1) Turn in your license. 2) Pay attention to the fact that there are plenty of other tractor trailers in your mirrors, and they're running two abreast, which should immediately tell you that your fear that the lanes aren't wide enough is completely without merit. At this point, you should choose to grow a pair, pick a lane, get in it and stay in it, preferably the right lane so others can pass you on your left.

As a commercial driver, I was a fan of this video after the aggressive motorcycle PD. HOWEVER, I am very disturbed and disappointed by the driver attempting to pass in a narrow construction zone. The commercial driver at 2014/02/03 03:52:44 was protecting the public and you/r driver from endangering himself and others. If the timestamp is correct, which I doubt, it predates your "new" camera. You make us all look bad to the general public with such a reckless pass in a construction zone, when the guy could have waited 5 minutes to pass. The driver that passed in the narrow construction zone is reckless and without common courtesy.

@@TheRoadhammer379 Also really likes riding the passing lane. The cop pulled him over because he was not really "passing" in the passing lane. This commercial driver admitted to going UNDER the speed limit while in the passing lane. While not illegal to do so, he needs to be cognizant that others are DOING the speed limit and want to pass HIM. Those people that ride the left lanes not passing are dangerous because it forces those passing to pass on the right and also do numerous lane changes while aggravated. I drive extensively up and down the I-95 corridor in the mid-Atlantic and NE states. I call them left lane vigilantes. They are so frustrating. Many states prohibit cruising in the passing lane and it is a ticket-able offense. That judge was wrong. I get it that semi drivers need to rum their rigs at peak efficiency and that not doing so causes negative cash flow (especially for owner-operators. I get it.). I fully recognize that truckers are the red blood cells of our nations arteries and that I am driving on THEIR road as they pay crazy taxes to use those roads. But for crying out loud, stay out of the passing lane as much as possible and stop passing in cattle chute construction zones. Crikeys.

You also see the entire road (ahead of you at least) which is a great advantage I used to drive a semi for work. Now I drive only SUV's because they are high and you can see whats going on on the road. Cop was probably just in NO-SEMIS-ALLOWED mode. I don't know if he was a Bexar County cop, but either way, typically semis aren't allowed to travel in the left lane. Yes, you can pass, however, in the clip itself the driver was in the left lane for quite a long time. Cool to see my home town on youtube watching cop videos.

For the truck you might want to point him at 4 camera systems to have 1 forward 1 per mirror looking down the sides of the truck and one for ether looking between the truck and trailer or in the cab looking at the driver. With a independent battery that recharges when the truck is running you can have 24/7 camera coverage to get those events that happen when you are parked and off as rare as those are. Would also be worth it to burn the full days/weeks video to disk for long term backups in case someone comes back later to say you did X, you would have the full video of the day to show nothing happened.

If you wait till the manufacturers install them in their cars, you'll be paying $800 to $1000 extra for a feature that you can buy and install yourself in mere minutes for less than $100. And as an added bonus, you can then simply unplug and transfer to another vehicle just as quickly. I bought two Rove cams that are GPS, bluetooth, and have video stability built in for less than $150 last month (yes, for the pair) to replace two Smarty cams that cost a hell of a lot more but had much poorer resolution (retail on them when hew was over $400 each). which goes to prove that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a high quality cam with all the features.

Install dash cams in every vehicle, and remove all the nonsense safety nannies, like airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, etc. Without all that crap, maybe people would drive better knowing their head is bouncing off the steering wheel & windshield when they hit someone, and that they need to drive responsibly because if they don't they don't have a traction control and stability control system to save their sorry asses from their own terrible driving habits. I bet most people on the road today wouldn't be able to drive a vehicle that don't have all that safety shit in it without getting into several wrecks within a short distance just because they really don't have a clue how to drive...they rely 100% on all the electronic nannies to get them from point a to point b and oftentimes all those nannies still can't save their dumb asses from their complete lack of common sense and driving skills which is very lacking today.

In open road its no big deal but with jersey barriers on both sides that is a flip over jackknife situation as any rig cdl knows all to well. Our rigs are 102" or 8′ 6″ and a regulation lane which those are reduced which is allowed for jersey barreired work zones are 12 feet and the jeresy area is closer to 10. That is serious tight clinch factor driving for side by side and if are a long hauler you damn well know it. Our mirrors stick out another foot. One guy was trying to commit insurance fraud and would of roly screwed me in I hadn't had the dash cam. While the guy was rolling in fake pain in the road I used my tablet and pulled the video from my DC. when the cop showed up, I said "Hello officer, I can tell you what happened or you can just let you watch my dash cam video." At "dashcam video" the guy jumped up and tried to make a run for it. The officer was "On his game" and tackled him to the ground with the statement "oh now you don't!"

@@wildbill23c yup...and all the driver "assist" they're putting on vehicles is crazy. Right before I retired, the company got tractors with proximity sensors and and automatic braking. It'd come on if any of the sensors picked up a vehicle that was too close. Long story short, I had a vehicle that had come on an entrance ramp on my right, then shot over three lanes. It crossed my front bumper too close and caused the brakes to lock up during four lanes of rush-hour traffic...needless to say I puckered the seat and probably lost a couple of years off the end of my life. That stuff is advertised as a convenience, but I think it's dangerous as hell. Anything that takes away control of a vehicle from the driver is stupid. If somebody needs that kinda crap on their vehicle, they shouldn't have a license...just my take on it.

Always 2 lane marked left lane for passing only...3+ don't have that rule, at least not in my experience in Texas for the past unnumbered years....but even a 4 lane wide freeway has the "no trucks left lane" inside the major cities...but inner areas and outside a certain range along each highway, the no trucks left lane rule goes away due to left lane exits (inner city areas) or distance from the inner areas...Houston they use Beltway 8 as the outter boundary and loop 610 as the inner, not sure ab out DFW, I avoid that place, lol...and Austin, I don't drive the highways, except 183 (71 & 290 on occassion) and I don't remember the signage as I drive right lane on that road regardless....

I got the second one as a Christmas gift and put it in the rear window. The number of things I have seen and the number of times I've been able to just point to it and that is enough to back down a nut-job who comes out of their car. You can get an economical dashcam at Walmart for only $17.00. The brand is "Pilot." It's definitely NOT a Gopro .... It's made mostly of heat resistant plastic, but it gets the job done nicely! Suction cup window mount with cigarette lighter power cord. After an initial setup, all I have to do is plug it in and it immediately starts recording. Uses those micro-SD cards. It records on the card until the card fills to capacity, the goes back to the beginning of the memory and records over the old data. You never have to mess with it, except for remembering to unplug it when you leave the car!

No, the quality of the video is mediocre during the day and to bad during the night. If you need a real admissible evidence, spend $50 on a dash camera, and USE a LC noise filter in line, and a RG-58 coaxial cable to ground the noise and to get a crisp clear video. I am Happy with a "apeman Full HD 1080". If you can spend more a "BlackVue DR650 2 chan" is the choice but there are no limits if you go to 4K dashcam with very high price, and very high day and night video quality.

Whether there's signs or not, a lot of cities don't like semis in the left lane, regardless of whether they're passing someone or not. California, Salt Lake, etc. For some reason Vegas is cool with it though. (Good thing, because of massive traffic on and off in right lane would make it more whack than it already is if trucks had to stay right.) I've had a cop point me over just like yours did in Denver once. Funny thing is, I was in the middle lane but within a mile both lanes left of me merged out and left me in the left lane. I couldn't move right.....because the car blocking me from moving over was the cop. Thanks for the tip, officer.

Where I'm from semi's are not allowed in the far left lane at all if there are more than 2 lanes. Funny part is, the minute you're within a few miles of a highway split or a change in the number of lanes, they all cram into the far left lane knowing that soon they'll be allowed to be in that lane - like little kids that want to break the rules, but just a little bit!
