If you warm up the engine with a heat source of some sort, i.e. Heat gun, salamander heater. It will aid tremendously in penetration of the fluids you poured down the cylinder, thus making the unseizing process faster

Nothing better than resurrecting these machines. They are easy to work on meaning you can actually work on it compared to the current bikes. I rebuilt my 79’ RM250N between 05-06’ when NOS parts were rather plentiful and not too expensive. Got her back to show room condition and she rips.
@lukecombs5242

That rod bearing and crank bearings won’t last to long at all the proper way is to split the case and new bearings and seals but if you just want to do it cheap and easy just to rip it a few times proceed but imo she has good bones and would be awesome restored nice find on both the zukes.

I had a 1982 Suzuki RM465Z from 1982 to 1990, and it was the best bike I ever had. Never broke down one time, ran like a top, had awesome power that would pull the front wheel in every gear, started 2nd kick when cold, 1st kick when warm, and I got parts cheap from a Suzuki parts warehouse near Chicago Illinois.

I saved an engine like this once. Had to split the cases and really work on it to get it freed up and cleaned up properly. New bearings and seals, balance crank, new piston, bored the cylinder and it's still running today. This one needs the cases split and rebuilt
@kurtyoung6769

On most dirt bikes that don't have a dip stick you check the transmission oil by unscrewing a screw from the clutch side housing. It should barely run out when the engine is level. Usually the capacity is about 28 ounces.
@steves2241
@steves2241 7 ай бұрын
Not on 2 strokes that old, I had a 1976 Suzuki RM100 and it did not have a screw to check the oil on the clutch side. I would just stick a zip tie in there to check the oil. I also had a 1980 Suzuki PE250, and it did not have that screw either.

It needs a new crank. Running it with that crank will cause more damage in the long run. The bigend bearings wont last long and once they go the piston will start slapping against the head. Rings are all rusted as well so that will damage the bore. A new crank. Set of bearing and rings is all it needs.
@glenncrockett4451
@glenncrockett4451 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that thing sat outside for awhile, that wasn't carbon he was scraping off the crank it is rust, unless this bike had a family history it would cost to much to repair, part it out so somebody else can get a better bike going again. That rod bearing is done, you may get the engine started but without a good rebuild it won't last a wk, trust me. I have rebuilt and sold over 300 bikes most Vintage.

Case reed induction and the remotes puts it at a late 70’s Rm250, I’d say probably a 77 or 78, so a B or a C. If you get it running and it’s setup well the power delivery when the reeds open will really makes it pull really well.

Those fairly lower power Honda 4-stroke engines have a very long lifespan, especially if taken care of well, (oil changes and such). Mr Honda, (dead now), loved to get into all kinds of racing, I (and they won at them all), and as a manufacturing guy myself, (experience and education), Honda was then, and probably still is now, the best manufactures in the world with engineering and quality control. The result is,---your engine started and runs good. :)

you don't need to always hone the cylinder walls just wash it and clean reeds, and put new screws on that, also check the ring cap, and after doing that you will know do you need get new rings,and sometimes just a little polish do wonders to cylinder walls,i have roll old t-shirt to the stick and put it in the drill and let it spin, but I've seen peoples use bottle wash brush also to clean cylinder walls,there is so many ways to clean but just clean and look cap and feel the walls and chek how to piston moves then you know what to do.
