I threw away a piece of scrap metal like that once out of frustration. Thought it was nothing. Went back to the same spot and re found it under some leaves a year later. Turned out it had the last name of the land owners from the early to mid 1800s. Glad I found it again.

What size is the coil you got? I just got a 15 inch NEL storm coil that I only got to use twice so far for my Makro multi kruzer. I feel like the targets are a lot easier to ID and even though its way bigger than my 7 inch I have no issues finding my targets. Totally worth the upgrade. I'm in Belleville and just heading out but needing a little motivation, haha. 😆 Nice finds man, I hope I get lucky with a British or maybe some gold would be nice! 👑💍💰👌🏼 Best of luck to you & happy digging! 😎
@CanadianHistoryHunter3 жыл бұрын
With my CTX3030 I have the big 17inch coil. Sometimes I wish there was a bigger coil to get lol! The bigger coils are better for the deeper targets and great for covering more ground! But in trashy areas it can be a pain at times lol

Very nice group of finds! Amazing old British silver! That doesn’t seem to come up that much in ON. Reales seem to be more common. I found my first pre-1937 quarter this year and was a 1918 with similar wear. How was the condition on the dragon slayer token?
@CanadianHistoryHunter5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Still haven't found a reale yet but hopefully soon. Congrats on your first pre 1937 quarter! The dragon slayer token was in rough shape at first but I then scrubbed it a bit with a tooth brush and alot more dirt came off. It's in alright condition but hard to find them in great condition considering that old coppers that age rarely turn out good but sometimes they can. I guess it depends on the type of soil they were in and how much they were used prior to being dropped.
@kepvalley5 жыл бұрын
I got very lucky on my first dragon slayer earlier this year, a half penny 1854 which was below a sandy layer in gravelly sand. It came out with no corrosion and grades at an EF-40. It is also the rarer crosslet 4 type. My second pre-1937 quarter was a doozy, an 1880 that came out of the lake and grades at EF-40 based on wear only. The milled edge feels so sharp, I cannot believe it! What the tarnish and micro pitting under where it flaked off does to the grade, I don’t know. I think it was a man’s daily pay and may have come newly minted from the bank before being dropped.
@CanadianHistoryHunter5 жыл бұрын
@@kepvalley Thats awesome and sandy soil really does preserve the coin well. I remember finding a large cent in sandy soil once and it looked almost uncirculated. it's always exciting to search up the value of the coin after finding it!
@kepvalley5 жыл бұрын
The 1880 quarter is a key date year and the value at EF-40 is over $1000. I doubt anyone would pay close to that as it’s tarnished and difficult to see detail without holding it at angle to light. It’s the old conundrum, clean it and devalue it, don’t clean it, nobody wants it.
