2000 Honda Insight restoration video part 1: Intro/starting mods

After my last G1 Insight restoration (the blue 2001) I couldn't stop thinking about the car....so I hunted down and bought another one. This one I'm keeping, it's the perfect compliment/2nd car to my Fiesta ST and it's my favorite color too. Lots of repair/restoration/modifying to come on this car so I'll likely shoot a few more videos in this series.

Keep em coming, just purchased my 2001 Insight 5sp w/ AC 124k miles in Monte Carlo Blue for $1500. Needs a bit of TLC and of course a new battery! So we will be in about the same boat cost wise when I install the BeeMax! Some hail damage and clear coat oxidation, but CLEAN interior and engine bay!

Awesome, I have the same exact car , year , color... out here near Seattle. I have had it just under a month, I looked at some of your vids which helped with cleaning the egr plate ( thank you ) and actually got me hooked up with Klr3cyl for springs and a few other things. I am soon doing the clutch and front struts and springs / brakes.... I thought you did a very nice job with your blue one.... I have had 3 Porsches , 8 Audis, 3 old Broncos and a bunch of cool cars over my life, and these Insights are more enjoyable in some ways than all those mentioned.... So, enjoy the process, I look forward to seeing what you do... Might not be a bad idea to get and rat hole a new set of the factory correct " RE 92 " tires ... I could see them being discontinued. I got 4 at discount for $350.00 ish.... the date codes were mid 2019.... Happy Insightful trails :-)

Good call on the tires...Scott has dozens of sets in his cellar so there will be a "distributor" for us in the future. Thanks for the good word.

Beautiful Insight! Nice armrest. Insight does become an addition as I suffered from withdrawal syndromes after selling the first '00 Insight. I have a 2nd Insight now and just caught myself daydreaming over another one on sale in northern California! Beware of the side effects if you are beginning to start liking 00-06 Insights...

It's totally true. I almost bought two more $300 ones but I got control of myself. The urge to collect is a mysterious and powerful force. As soon as I sold the blue one I knew I'd have another.

i'd like to get one of these cars but with the current gas prices everybody that has one thinks that they are worth 5 times their real worth. I get that the cars get great MPGs but an Insight with over 200,000 miles is simply not worth $5000

@@jettdriver4841 that comment is a year old, but I'm now driving a Mini Cooper SE. No more gas ever again. Car gets the equivalent of 114 mpge.

Curious what springs are you installing on the car? Just cleaner OEM springs are are they stiffer or softer in spring rate?

Scott's springs, look up killer3cylinder, they are magical and affordable.

gray25xt Well I don’t like the nickel Metal hydride battery. They go bad in three years. So I was looking at a timeline of three years from now. The paint on the hood and roof really make the car pop. I’m driving a car just like yours with no battery at all deleted. I am really enjoying your videos. Or do you have a lithium battery. If you know Nat from Atlanta . You probably do have the lithium. I love lithium

@@excaliburjohndeere7657 Yes the new paint and general condition really sold me on this car. The batteries do not always go bad in three years you are incorrect. Yes I read about your car nice job that is respectable. Glad the videos are helping. I have a new Bumblebee BeeMax 8.0 Ah battery with a 5 year warranty. I know Nat we have worked together a few times most recently on my current hack. I considered LTO but I want a warranty and want a stress-free experience where I don't have to always be monitoring the car. But this isn't my only car so if it was I might be more inclined to go LTO.
