I had the opportunity to spend two days driving this classic! The 2000 Lincoln Town Car signature series. It has an air ride suspension in the rear, a torquey V8 and a four speed transmission, supple leather interior and a low price tag on the used market. Is it a good value? Let's talk about it.
How to restore your old yellow headlights: amzn.to/2sQYokq
Model Lineup
Most Town Car buyers will choose from Signature Series ($40,630) and Cartier Series ($43,130) models. The Executive Series ($38,630) is sold primarily as a fleet car.
The base engine (available on the Executive and Signature Series) is a 205-horsepower 4.6-liter V8.
A more powerful 220-horsepower V8 with dual exhaust is standard on the Cartier and is available with the Touring Sedan option package on the Signature.
In addition to the stronger engine, the Signature Touring Sedan package gets larger 235/60R16 tires on unique 16-inch alloy wheels, a beefed-up torque converter in the transmission, a 3.55:1 rear-axle ratio for quicker acceleration, and revised springs, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars for a sportier ride. With more than 20 special parts designed to improve performance, the Touring Sedan package is well worth its $700 price.
For 2000, Lincoln has added the Cartier L, the first factory-produced long-wheelbase Town Car. The body is extended six inches at the factory, providing a more luxurious ride and more legroom in the rear cabin. Wider door openings, heated rear seats, a folding armrest with storage bins, rear audio and climate controls, mood lighting and a cigar-sized ashtray make this a luxurious ride for those with chauffeurs. An Executive Series version will also be produced as a limousine for the livery market.(www.NewCarTestDrive.com)

2002 and up lincoln town cars came with the fixed intake manifold wich was a serious problem on the older ones breaking and costing over a 1000 dollars they were plastic and if you put a stock new one on they would just break again.

Buy a 2006 to 2011 they came with the updated transmissiom the 4r75r instead of the 4r70w used in the crown vics that are known to have problems with the front pumps in the transmissions. Took me way to much research to find that out. I bought a 2001 then found some info on this on wikipedia but it was lies told me that 2002 and up got the 4r75w so i bought a 2003 still have both of them.up for sale. Found out that had the 4r70w. Then i found the real info of the trannys geting the update on these and mercury grand marquis possibly all crown vis but might be just the police cars in 2006 and up. And checked with alot of people on facebook market place with them checking in there owners manuals for me and yea seems to be true 2006 and up cars got the updated transmission the 4r75w only way to find out that i know of is in the owmers manual itll say what transmission it has.

You kept referring to a "pump noise". This is the air ride suspension and as you drive down the road, it will keep the car level and adjust the smoothness of the ride. I have owned three of these cars and they are extremely dependable and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Very few problems on my 2000 Signature with 190,000 miles. I expect to get another 100,000 with no problems on this car. I might also add that the Alpine Stereo not only has cassette but also a 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. The surround sound is fantastic and better than any car I've owned before. And the sunroof is icing on the cake! Love my Lincoln!!!!

The 98-02 style was never my favorite but these cars are truly fantastic if you want a larger car with rock solid reliability. They really nailed the platform down perfectly with the 2003 update. It won’t be sporty, or super fast, or the most economical on gas - but you will have the equivalent of a Camry 4 cylinder for reliability. Get a nice senior citizen or livery company owned and maintained one and enjoy it.

@Legoman99573
@Legoman99573 5 жыл бұрын
@@supahdupahplayahmacknumbah7791 After 10 years, yes. Hit a bad pothole and it starts leaking out. Would be better to replace with coil spring once it goes out though. There is a kit you can get specified for the town car, but takes a while since you would have to remove the air suspension. The light will stay on in the Cluster after that, but it can be ignored as long as you tell someone that it doesn't contain air suspension so dealers dont try to spend too much time wondering why the light is on.

@@supahdupahplayahmacknumbah7791 All air ride systems are somewhat problematic with pumps, lines and air shock units. But in my experience the later Lincoln systems are quite reliable and can last well over 10 years with no problems in the right conditions where as the GM\Cadillac systems are much more prone the failure and more expensive to replace or retrofit ...

I have a 1999. It's interesting that Town Cars seem to be driven by people of all ages these days. Maybe your generation is more accepting towards people who have ideas outside of the norm. My guess is that the internet has spread the word that these cars are safe, powerful, reliable, and inexpensive for what you are getting. The fact that is was the last American made V-8, rear drive, large body on frame car that was made might help too. There has been nothing like them since they were discontinued in 2011.IMO The Town Car combines the advantages of old school car engineering with modern reliability and safety

I've seen videos with young people who drive these cars & where I live I see this. I've loved luxury cars since I was in high school in the 80's, mostly Lincoln & Cadillac. These or any year model of Town Cars in my opinion will never die, I still see senior citizens to young people still driving these Lincoln Town Cars.

If the air springs are anything like the older ones like on the Lincoln Mark VIIs then it could be that just the O-Rings have dried out and shrunk in size. The Soapy Water Test should be able to help determine if its the bags or the O-Rings where the solenoid mounts on top. I have an older Lincoln than this still riding (for now) on three of its original air springs. One common leak points on the air springs is those O-Rings compared to the air spring itself.

It's like driving a couch. LOVE IT!!! 😎 Just spotted a beautiful silvery-beige 2001 Town Car for sale near where I live and I'm really thinking about buying it. It's not what I was in the market for (was looking for a black Ford Taurus Limited 2015 or newer), but for $1,950 with a ton of new parts (suspension, intake manifold, brakes, tires, brand new tabs, and more), I'm thinking this car is a pretty good buy. It has 237,000 miles on it and the leather seats are very beat up, but from what I'm reading about these cars lasting forever, I'm seriously considering buying this car tomorrow. I could throw on some nice seat covers and it would make the interior look near-new. I've never been a huge Lincoln Town Car fan (owned a Mark VII and two Mark VIII's since 1999), but after seeing all the rave reviews on these cars, I just might go for it. 🤔🤔🤔

Yes reliable! We have had 4 in our family over the span of my 34 years of life! One we had from 91-08, a 91 executive continental, when I was 14 I started driving it alone & traded it in to buy a yellow sunfire to match my husbands when I was like 19 or 20 cause we had a newer town car, next car listed but I do regret that! The second Lincoln in my life was a 2000 Cartier town car from 00-2017, I hit a deer and then it was submerged by flood waters in hurricane Harvey & since I couldn’t handle riding in anything else with my spinal fusion & needed to stick to my dream town car hahaha the 98 signature town car we bought in 2018 & just got a 2009 signature limited for my dad, we hit another darn deer and he passed away leaving The Eagle to me. I grew up riding & driving these & DONT like to drive anything else. Fun story, my buddy’s 02 double stretch executive’s air ride went out 😢 but we fixed it! I’m 5’1” & like 100lbs soaking wet with rods and screws in my neck and back and still rolled under there 😅 she’s been afloat since changing the air ride bags (it’s not hard) & replacing the air line running from the compressor to the bags. See, he raised it onto jacks without shutting off the air ride 😮 I was like NOOOOO Never ever ever do that! Maintenance & upkeep is easy, take care of your town car and it’ll take care of you. Change your entire coiling unit, all the cylinders.. it’ll run beautiful forever if you just pay attention to it & keep your radiator clear of debris. Air ride problems don’t have to cost a fortune if you’re just a little savvy with basic mechanics.. the compressor under the hood has more bolts than anything related to the relay and they’re beneath it, up front. The bags are underneath but twist out. Seriously it’s easier than changing the oil & filters lol.. by the way, they do some mad burn outs and are fun on the track. I have a burnout video on my tiktok with my silver blue hue sig series or AKA the SS Ice Dragon on @tessy.Ohana not advertising just like hey y’all this car is a beast & is a lot of fun. It eats gas but if you reset your gauges once you’re cruising it helps. 😊

@@Elijah-fc3ex I commuted from Tampa to Sarasota several times a week..I was OCD on tracking my MPG..I do not depend on the trip computer either...I would fill up drive down then fill up again..that would determine my mpg ..I admit I did drive slower..55 to 60 most of the time..no stop and go..all hwy between Tampa/Sarasota..Many people with the Panther frame Fords attain 32 mpg..not that unusual!!! You do have to drive like an old man...drive like there is an eggshell on gas pedal and a glass of wine on the roof..no fast starts or hard stops!!

You can turn the air ride off, there is a switch on the left inside of the trunk.
@andrewrife6253
@andrewrife6253 10 күн бұрын
The only reliability issue I've seen with these is the air suspension. The bags wear out, and the pump works constantly to inflate them. The good news is that it's $150 for a spring and shock kit that turns it into a coil suspension, and it's easy to drop in. These are panther body cars, so think of the mercury grand marquis and Ford Crown victoria with way more luxury. The thing I love about these cars is that they aren't apologetic about being comfortable and luxurious. Luxury trucks and suv's always felt like they had to justify their comfort with utility. These cars feel very pre 9/11 in that they signify success in the way that having one means you don't have to work hard anymore to make it; you're already there. They aren't meant to be particularly fast or sporty and the trunk is large to fit golf bags and luggage. When you are in one you get a feeling for what the ww2 generation had in mind for life. You get to feel what boomers were told they'd get before financial collapses took their pensions and retirements away. You don't get cars like this anymore, especially not marketed to the middle class.

I own the same vehicle and the surge has to do with the idle fan taking up most of the power. That indicates a bad idle fan motor. You can disconnect it and the surge goes away, but isnt recommended as the engine can heat up badly in the summertime. I would recommend replacing it, but not sure of you have by now or not. Vehicle has 87,000 miles when air suspension went out and had it replaced. I will give you Pros and Cons from my experience. Pros: ° ride is smooth ° sunroof ° break pedal adjustment Cons: ° Alot of electrical issues (some is resolved due to some pins have corrosion on them in connectors, but has to do with age) ° Parts aren't cheap, but they are cheaper than when it 1st came out. ° Would recommend removing the air suspension and use coil spring instead as you will have frequent problems. ° Some parts are no longer made, like the insturment cluster, which you would have to find someone who fixes them. ° CD Player is in the back trunk (can buy a replacement radio with built in CD Player to combat this and is pretty cheap to do) I recommend it, but make sure you have money on you just incase as they are old cars and may have alot of issues due to age.

2 things, 1 I'm urr age and say same thing when going to my Dads. I know these roads like the back of my hand. Yes we do. But in country deer jump out and cost me a grand worth of damage. Always keep a sharp eye out. 2, I own a 99 Cartier 253K and 07 designer. Same mpg, gr8 cars. The air springs get cracks cause nobody seems to get the fact that rubber is like urr skin and needs moisture. Slap a handful of Vaseline or 303 spray. My sprigs are going on 11 yrs in rust belt. They r 1st cars to get a 5 star crash rating, reroute the AC drain so water don't drip on passenger frame and rot, seal up cabin air vent, and service on time. They will last 4ever. Many go 500k and some 700 or more. All about care. Have a good 1. I love these cars. Especially for family.

@@demri123 Yes. I recommend any panther car, town car, crown vic, Mercury Grand marquis. Any year 03-10 is last gen with newest advances. B4 that they are good but have older style heads, non pi, older plastic crossover that can leak. Small issues nothing major. They all have issues but the panther has few, and those are easily, and cheaply fixed. They're truly the last gr8est sedan produced. There's a reason why they was and still are being used for cop, fire, etc.

Another thing is the cats. I run mine with no cats. Use spark plug non foulers for upstream. There's videos on that and have just mufflers. Or make it loud. Also tge airbox horn for fresh air is 2 inches. That's a joke for a V8. I make it 4.5 inches of respectable size. And make sure on 02 older that throttle cable is tight. Mine wasn't opening 100%. A few small zip ties to take up slack fixed that. Shell surprise u. Not a racer but for a big heavy car that can breathe easier with less restriction, she'll squat and go. Love panthers. Gr8 cars with best ride besides a Citroën with the hydraulic ball system. That's the best riding car I've ever been in. Better than a Bentley, why they borrowed it. and Rolls

Friends mom has a 2000 cartier, it has 400k miles, still goes strong, interior, body in good condition. The only thing about em is the coil packs are very sensitive to liquids and whatnot. And after a longer time the window mechanisms tend to get slower and rust a bit, but otherwise engines, suspension, gearboxes, electronics work like a charm. No wonder the police, taxis, etc used them so much.

The pedals on these are hazardously close to each other, adjustment or not. At a light, you can easily be feeding it gas. You can also hit the gas at the same time you are braking resulting in a pretty violent herky-jerky.

Best car I've ever owned out of 12 previous cars/trucks (had 2 rangers that were amazing even after 100i each by me , f*** a jeep as they got stuck in rural hills Ohio and in RIVERS 20miles down the river crossing at Fairbanks problemless) Lincoln is the bomb car, like a living room on wheels. Pump noise is normal i worked managing a shop for 6 yrs, it's an electric air pump. All air compressors make noise, give me a break. Clap your hands, or do an armpit fart, the compression of any air makes noise period point blank.

I'll need to see if 2006 has the same for interior lights, never thought about this until saw your video which mine has the same dash layout & I usually keep my lights in the auto position. I've never liked this body style but has grown on me over the years plus like the factory wheels. When the car sits low in back that's a sign the airbags need to be replaced which I had to have mine replaced last summer 2018 which I had the car towed to dealer as I wasn't going to drive car that low but thankfully my service advisor gave me a break on the price to replace airbags & pump.

@@thalo9237 I don't know about the quality of springs, I didn't have mine converted which I went with the original suspension when I had it replaced. Plus I had it done at the dealer as I don't trust anyone else outside of factory trained technicians for something major like this plus my service advisor at the dealership knows me since I take my car in for oil changes as needed. The pump & ai suspension bags was around $2,000 something with parts & labor included. I don't know if this helps.
