For anyone who doesnt want problems with their brakes after doing a simple strut replacement .... never pinch a brake line.. that line is damaged after he pinched it shut... and anyone who has ever worked on cars knows brake fittings are not something you put locking pliers on ... you dont do a job like this unless you have the tools and knowledge to do it correctly...

Muchas gracias for the video, it is extremely informative. I was hesitant to replace the rear strut in my wife's Corolla because it looked difficult but after watching your video it gave me the courage to do it myself, and I'm 65.

DO NOT SEPARATE THE BRAKE LINES!!!! IF you do, you will have to PURGE the air bubbles out of it. Toyota designers really messed up here. Cut off the tab holding the line on one side of the hole to slip the line out. Do the same with the new strut before installing it then twist it back in place. No much tension in there anyway.
@don12494 жыл бұрын
I would cut the bracket that holds the brake line with a hacksaw or a cutoff wheel then twist one side of the bracket up or down to remove the brake line. You can do the same thing with the new strut and slide the brake line into the bracket, twist the bracket back and reinstall the clip.

Why Toyota design the break line attached in the strut! I don’t understand man!
@Miscreatixn1174 жыл бұрын
Yea, that was a pretty bone head move on them. I replaced struts on a 2000 corolla yesterday, the brake lines being rusted up just made it take longer than it should have.

Never pinch the brake hose. It has a plastic lining inside and if you pinch it will crack and break. Then you have a chunk in there hanging it will be like a little flapper check valve letting fluid go one way but not the other. Then you think you have a stuck caliper when it's just a messed up hose. It's good to put fresh brake fluid in. Brake fluid draws moisture over time. It's recommended to flush the system every 3 years but nobody does because they don't like bleeding brakes. Don't use vise grips. You can round your nuts off, ouch!

Watching your video is like way hung a video on how not to do a job, you never ever pinch off a rubber brake hose it ruins them inside and soon the caliper is sticking due to a faulty brake hose and don't you believe in using ratchet wrench, and never use a claw hammer working on metal parts they can shatter I have seen it

Do you know what the ride height is on a 1999 Toyota Corolla ? Thanks 👍
Hey buddy Great video, question though, do you have to do an alignment after you replace the front and rear Struts?! I went to a place where they do the job and they add to the price the alignment. It’s that a real thing you have to do?! Or they just tried to rip me off?!
@averageguysgarage7 жыл бұрын
The common wisdom is to have an alignment done. It comes down to what you can afford. If you replace the struts yourself you will save a lot of money on labor. On this car, we did not have an alignment done and all has been good. Also, there are a few good videos for DIY alignments as well.

I would say it all depends on how long the car has been riding that way, it was so bad on mine that the car would shift on a highway that has a bit of a curve, it also may be prudent to rotate your tires because with all of that improper weight distribution they may not be wearing evenly
@tonybolstad9514 Жыл бұрын
You absolutely should get an alignment if replacing front struts. Rear struts less important as well many cars have little adjustment available in the rear anyway..
