One thing I like about these direct drive top loaders is that these machines are generally easier to fix when repairs are needed. And they also can pick up right where they left off whenever electricity goes out due to power outage since the vast majority of them have mechanical controls and I prefer mechanical controls over electronic controls for that reason.

My grandma used to have a direct drive. The motor coupler and agitators went out once and then the transmission failed. Lasted over 20 years. It was a 1996 model I believe so it was a 90s direct drive. It was branded Kenmore but Whirlpool owns that brand. It got replaced with a VMW Whirlpool tho.

No way. Smartphone cameras cost 3x the amount a regular camera costs to do the same things a regular camera can do. 60fps is not an option here, that takes up way too much storage on the computer. This is good enough as it is. Besides, this channel operates on a $0 per video budget--if you want to send me a 60fps camera and computer rig that'll be able to handle it, I accept donations.

@@lizboz Alright. Was not expecting that much attitude, just giving a suggestion to potentially give people the best satisfaction of watching this style of machine. I film my videos at 4K 60FPS, and it only takes up between 5-7GB depending on the length. Do you have your videos monetized? With our sub and view rates, it's not much, but anything is better than nothing.
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
Beg pards, didn't think I was coming on _that_ strong. You have to understand that I run a simple channel, I have my camcorder that I use and have been using since 2012, and it's been flawless through and through. I don't believe in replacing what still works if I can help it. There are guys like DaSamNudge that will go all out with the most outrageously priced recording equipment like Apple and all those overpriced name brands just to do simple videos of equipment that's not even moving at high rates most of the time. I think that's a big waste of money and PC memory. 4K is another thing in of itself; most of the time, you can't even see 4K. Not to mention the amount of space that's gotta take up. There aren't many people like me who have all the latest and greatest equipment to handle that kind of stuff, I just use what I've had for 10+ years now which is a somewhat old HP 17" LCD monitor off of like an old K12 computer, which even then is too new for me, I think the old school CRT monitors and the old CCFL backlit ones had the best CRI and white balance. Call me old fashioned, call me Mr. Dinosaur, I just prefer old school over pretty much anything new, although there are some exceptions which I won't bother to list. But I digress. I watch a lot of old school guys like jaykay18, VWestlife, uxwbill, The 8-Bit Guy as well as many others, and I'm sure they would all agree with me that old school did it best. Didn't mean to be brash or drive you away, just stating my thoughts. Perhaps I'm a little bit rougher minded than most other people.
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
As for monetizing, yes I do have that enabled. What I get paid is nothing I can live off of, it's just a nice little something to have on the side every now an then. Though with the recent changes made concerning COPPA and all that nonsense, I don't know where it will go from here.

I just bought a 2000 Whirlpool washer and dryer set for 500 bucks. I hope I don't regret letting the dryer go cuz my dryer was in perfect shape but the sky was selling sets and then $65 delivery whether you got one or two and he waved the delivery fee for my dryer since it was in perfect working order. So far the only thing I've washed in the Whirlpool machine is towels, but like yours is showing, the agitation is really fast. I'm sure it's good for towels but I tried to switch it to the delicate cycle to see if it was slower and it stayed just as fast as yours is going. I can't believe that's correct the washer I just got rid of you can set the agitation to slow medium or fast even in the middle of a wash. The reason I'm researching this, is because I don't want to call the guy and complain if all of the cycles are fast agitation. Mine doesn't do as fast a spin as yours shows either. Have you tried running on a more delicate load?

@mwj9080Ай бұрын
@@lizbozYES how can I find this?!?
@lizbozАй бұрын
@mwj9080 I'm assuming you're asking how to look for one. Any brand of machine that's older than say 20 years will likely be good. But if you want a direct drive like the one in this video, make sure it's under any one of these brands: Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, Estate, Kitchenaid and Inglis. But do NOT be fooled by the name itself, there are other KEY features/non-features to look for. Make sure that number one, it has FULLY MECHANICAL CONTROLS--this doesn't just mean a stupid knob that you turn by itself that no actual mechanical switches inside, they fool you with that by putting nothing but circuit boards behind that knob and pass it off as "mechanical." A REAL mechanical control will feel AND sound like a mechanical control, I.E. there will be a very tactile feeling behind the knob when you turn it. The timer will also have a knob that you PULL to start and PUSH to stop & turn to whatever desired setting. New ones don't have that anymore, they just give you a selector knob with a play/pause button along with indicator lights which I call "idiot lights" to supposedly tell you where it's at in the cycle, but all those tell you is merely which portion of the cycle it's in, not how long or how many minutes are left. There's none of that tomfoolery on the old ones. Second thing which is also another crucial point, is that the old ones will NOT have a locking lid like the newer ones do. All that is is just another thing to fail in short time. They put those in the newer ones BTW, because they got rid of something else which was a good tried-and-true design of the older washers--the tub brake. You know....the thing that saved your kid from getting seriously hurt if they were to fall in. Nope! Can't have that anymore today! So if you're able to spin the basket by hand real easily, chances are more than likely that it's a newer one. Old ones you cannot spin the basket without exerting much force. Another one is the tub suspension; look for one that has a stiff suspension to it. You should be able to push the tub side to side and it stay in one spot (hard to move.) New ones will float/glide all over the place with little effort required. The agitator is also a big determining point between the new & old machines. Old machines you should be able to spin the lower part of the agitator by hand freely from the rest of the basket & tub. If you try to turn it and it spins the entire basket along with it, it's a new one. These are just a few key points to look for. You're never going to find these old school washers at any kind of dealers today. Only exception to that is Speed Queen, either in the TC5000 model or the DV2000 model. The direct drives were made from 1980 to 2011-12, continued in the form of stackable units until about 2017 or so. There were over one hundred million total units made in that time frame, so you absolutely should have no trouble finding one. Again, used markets. FB marketplace would be a good place to start as well if you have & use that.

I just moved out on my own into an apartment that didn’t come with a washer or dryer but had the hookups for them, so I decided to buy a used set. I loved whirlpool, we had a few in my family before and they were always reliable machines. I seen an ad online for a 90s whirlpool set, and I bought. Unfortunately the washer leaked, it was a very basic 7 cycle smaller tub. The motor was quite loud on it too but it had a bad leak and the used appliance store I purchased the set from told me he just got a new arrival that was the same washer and if I wanted that as the replacement and I said send me a photo and when he did I was in love, it was 2 years newer than the 1994 model I had that was leaking. It’s a 9 cycle two speed ultimate care 2, it’s in amazing condition and works like new. So obviously they came and took the old one I bought and replaced it with this new whirlpool he told me about and I confirmed that I wanted it. I’ve had it for about a month now and I’m so loving it especially the larger tub. Such a durable quick machine.

Shame the first one didn't work out for you. But at least you made the right choice and got another quality machine while it was under warranty; that should last you many years of trouble free service! Check out RepairClinic and also AppliancePartsPros' videos on that, you can also leave me a comment related to the video topic if you have any questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.

Dogs inside my new one are perfect, I was surprised. My next machine will certainly be a 80s built Maytag.

I love this washer way better than the original one I bought that had to be replaced due to the leak it had, only difference with this machine that they asked me if it was ok to replace it with is the same control panel style just this one is a ultimate care super capacity plus 9 cycle. The original whirlpool I bought was just a 7 cycle heavy duty, very basic, no super tub either just basic small tub. I didn’t like it that much and it was a 94 model, I have photos of each machines but my replacement is a 96, they had asked me if that one was good for a replacement and I said that was more than PERFECT. I wanted an older whirlpool exactly like that and I was blessed that arrived into they’re inventory and has not had one issue since and I’ve ran it almost everyday since I bought it earlier this month

Wow, I can't believe it, they did the SAME THING my dad did to his Kenmore 80 series! Bolting the auger to the cam was his brilliant idea to begin with, and I even have a video from early 2013 showing how it was done. He got that from the guy he bought the machines from when the agitator dogs went out in it. I wonder if that first Whirlpool of yours was from the same guy, it was a 2nd hand shop on the Caldwell Blvd in Idaho. I believe his store name was Andy's 2nd hand & appliance. That's where my dad bought his 80 series in May 2012, and subsequently where we got our current 70 series in April 2014. The old Maytags indeed were indestructable machines.

lizboz So for the most part my machine the new one that is, is almost identical to yours in this video, only it has a third knob for the cycle signal it’s an ultimate care 2 9 cycle 2 speed. Wasn’t even that gross when I received it either. Yeah no kidding I don’t understand why they thought that would work lmao....I was still able to turn it both ways. But before they came and took it we took the new dogs we replaced back out lmao.....not gonna sell me some POS that not only leaks but doesn’t have proper working parts when they told me specifically they check the dogs. No bull I still remember when he said that. The refurbished appliance store I used for buying the washer and dryer and then the replacement was from the same people, DR appliances in Dearborn Michigan. He called me back and told me he got a new arrival that was the same machine just way nicer, and then 2 yrs newer plus a larger tub which I NEED lmao.

It's easy, you cover travel expenses, I cover everything else. You can email me, you know. Consider yourself lucky, some of those HE people are worse than the rest! Good idea to source a replacement while the getting's good! Thank you, I try to use the words sparingly. It's a spice. Too much is overpowering, too little is too bland. Some people, particularly NYers, like a little more than the rest!

Does the fabric softener drain out when the water drains out
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
No, the centrifugal force of the spin cycle throws the softener up into the outer wall inside the dispenser, which is held there until the machine stops spinning. Then it drops _down and out_ of the upper agitator assembly.

And I exactly have this washer and how to keep washer open when u have no hole n stuff?
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
If you have this same machine, shouldn't there be a hole for the lidswitch? If not, then that's very simple, it's located underneath the leftside of the lid. For that, you just need to take phillips screwdriver and remove the two screws out of the left lid hinge, then once those are out, you can then pull the hinge out of the lid and push it down, so as to "trick" the machine into thinking the lid is shut, and it will work with it open.

@@OckGypsy I know. I was interrogating the reason anybody would want to know when these end, because washer twerps NEVER want these to end. In fact, I could do a never ending ASMR video of one these, and they'd be all over that video.

why is the pen stuck? btw i miss the old machines idk why did they stop making them?
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
Without my watching the video, how exactly is it stuck? The reason they stopped making them is the same reason everybody else stopped making stuff from yesterdecade--Corporate American Greed. Simple as that. People want what's new, without realising that the novelty of a new toy wears off quickly.
@OckGypsy4 жыл бұрын
It's stuck inside so the machine can operate.

Correct.

@@lizboz Why do they not make quality models like this anymore, if they have all the money in the world.
@lizboz4 жыл бұрын
Because of greed, and because it's cheaper to make them like this. Money makes the world go 'round, and because us dumb, fat Americans are smart to give corporations our money, things will only regress from here.

This washer is the most ineffective that I saw in my life. It washes just 30 min with back and force moves unlike the normal washers with straight spin drum, thus clothes remain dirty with all stains. This machine is designed for heavy duty in cheap laundry to shorten washing time in cost of effectiveness and is worst buy you can make to wash your clothes at home.

The load was 10 bath towels, which is the most I'd ever load a machine like this. The turnover is slower than it would've been with 8 towels, but I've also adjusted the water level switch on this machine so that it fills up a couple inches higher than it normally would from the factory. It's fine here.
