Giving new life to this 2001 Hyundai Elantra. Making it safer to drive as well. Taking good care of an older car will save you money in the long run. We go years without any car payments but put a couple hundred dollars a year into parts/tools to keep our vehicles in good working order and safe to drive. An investment in tools is just that, an investment! Learning to do simple mechanical work on your own vehicles will pay dividends for a lifetime!
I believe in you! You can do these simple tasks. Just remember to be safe and follow precautions. You are doing this at your own risk so be smart and don't cut corners. Use quality tools and new parts, that's the easiest way to ensure a safer repair.

its very reliable since i had it. when it was brand new i would race it against other cars like toyota, Madsda 323, Suzuki Swift and it stood the test of time. for a heavy 1.6 sedan, it drives speedy like a 2.0 vehicle. some how people dont give them the respect they deserve but other popular brands like Toyota also have issues that you would never hear. to each be his own. it is now my project car.

that's the thing about these cars... they are very reliable if looked after... I'm on my 2nd one (my original car was totalled in an accident that wasn't my fault)... I actually love them! it's kinda too bad ppl see them as throw-aways... I've seen perfect examples in junkyards because I guess they sat on a used car lot and nobody bought them... shame really. I know I plan to keep mine running and in good shape for a while to come...

this video was very interesting i have an Elantra 2000 manual transmission. was off the road for about five yrs but observed i had to do some reconditioning like changing the trans axle fluid, outer tier-rod end, steering-rod boots, detaching the gas tank then to replacing old gasoline, and then cleaning the gas tank. vehicle only has about 95000 miles so far to date. but now trying to get it ready for vehicle inspection. my only problem is that the alternator appears to be faulty- not charging the battery and the car won't start. after using starter fuel the vehicle crank and start but eventually cuts out when starter fluid is used up in the combustion chamber. my additional issue is i discovered that the security alarm would not turn off from the kill switch so had to disconnect the battery cable. i also removed the burglar alarm fuse from the engine bay fuse box but that didn't solve the issue either. my theory is that the security alarm is hindering the start, a bad alternator, or faulty wiring. but before i call the auto electrician on the matter, what do you think?

Great video. I just bought a 2003 Hyundai Elantra GT runs great and I see the front struts were replaced on mine recently. But its a ruff/stiff ride going over a brick road the rear shock/struts have almost no movement up and down at all. I can barely push the rear end of the car down. Typically when shocks/struts go bad you get the bounce as in your video. Its almost like the coil springs are to stiff and or could the struts still be bad ?
@troysgarage
@troysgarage 3 жыл бұрын
Struts can also seize up although that’s less common. These are great little cars. You’ll love it.

@@troysgarage Oh its a great car for sure I got it for my granddaughter its in excellent condition one owner $2300.00 with 100,000 miles. No rust no valve clatter no stains a fair deal for the money. That was my thinking that the struts may have seized up. Easy cheap fix.

@troysgarage

Good practice yes, but not completely necessary. You’ll decide to do it after realizing how much difference replacing warn struts makes. It raised the ride height by almost a full inch too. 😱

Hey Troy ! I got a couple questions! I got a 2005 Elantra it looks a little different but I’m just a dumb butt carpenter….. do I have to take the entire seat out if I don’t have that trim peice and what’s a good way to check the front struts if they’re good , my back ones are definitely no longer good and I’ve pushed em as far as I’m comfortable pushing them!
@troysgarage
@troysgarage Жыл бұрын
Look inside the trunk before yanking the seat. But you might be right it could be behind the seat back. You don’t “have” to replace the fronts at the same time but if the back ones are shot the fronts likely are too.

I'm doing this tomorrow on my 2000 Elantra, 143,000 miles. Why do you need an alighnment after doing the rear?
@troysgarage
@troysgarage 9 ай бұрын
I’d put money on the table that if you are replacing your rear struts it’s been a long time since it’s been aligned. You are probably overdue anyways. What good is a smooth ride if the back end is wagging and the front is snowplowing eating tires? Rear struts doesn’t necessarily take your car out of alignment (that’s what you are getting at), but new springs changes the feel, might as well finish it off with driving straight and saving your tires.
@callmeishmaelk767
@callmeishmaelk767 9 ай бұрын
@@troysgarage maybe once I do the front struts I'll take it for an alignment. The tires are 8.5 years old but have a lot of tread on them. Or maybe I'll wait on the alignment when I get new tires.

These after market struts never work, I have tried couple before I went back to stock. Look at the gap in the back they’re just higher
@troysgarage
@troysgarage Жыл бұрын
Never is a really strong word. They do ride higher at first. But settle nicely. We need this car for 3.5 years after replacing and they still rode like a cloud when we sold the car. Are they as good as OEM? probably not, but they are WAY better than the dead ones they replaced. 🤷🏼‍♂️
