Excellent step by step, no kidding. I have a 2002 convertible and I'm still on the fence whether I change that water pump or bring it to a dealer. I've seen four or five videos and instructional book renderings of how to install that water pump and timing chain kit. I want you to know that you have the exceptional ability from hardcore experience. I wish you were local, I'd bring my car to you. I have my fingers crossed, maybe I'll drive it until it's got 120k on it and I'll trade it in before it goes. That engine is a nightmare to maintain, I've worked on it to replace plenty of hoses, coolant bleed housing, spark plugs. My hat's off to you, you're the best 2.7 expert I've seen in the media.

I appreciated your video and your commentary is similar to what I would think when getting pissed off at bad design characteristics that result with extra work and worry. I design stuff so I've had to answer for being inconsiderate. Anyway, I'm guessing that took you 12 hours to complete the water pump install. Is that about correct? It's a guess.

You have provided me info I couldn't find anywhere else - I pulled the engine out the top and I wish I would have taken the front cover/motor mount off first as it was really tight to remove with it on. I now have to replace a spun rod bearing. I agree that this is the worst design ever but I got the car cheap. Thanks for such an in depth installation!

It's not the worst design ever. I can thank the Germans for that hands down. Spun rod bearing=crankshaft, connecting rod replacement, bla bla bla. Might as well get another engine. Good luck! Thanks for watching.

Excellent true to life video done inside vehicle. Gonna start on my 2005 2.7 stratus water pump just blew out. Timing chain water pump. Gonna attempt the head gaskets cause had a small leak exhaust side for a while, never h2o in oil till yesterday when WPump went. Just wondering you think the head will fit with exhaust manifold on fire wall side? I know from experience manifold bolts not coming out easily. Why fix the stratus? Runs perfectly, in great shape & me & the dodge spent a lot of time together replacing a/c comp all suspension components, axles, injectors, trany fluid filter & return line flush, etc.

You are supposed to install the tensioner in the deactivated or depressed position. To deactivate it, you compress it slowly until about 3/4 of an inch of the tensioner is left exposed. After you install it, use a long screw driver with a piece of rubber hose or electrical tape wrapped around it so that you don't damage the guide. Stick the screw driver between the guide and the camshaft sprocket and use the sprocket for leverage to depress the tensioner the rest of the way and then when you release it, the tensioner will release into the extended position and take up all the chain slack on the passenger side of the chain. Before doing so, you should rotate the crankshaft clockwise enough to remove all the slack from the drivers side of the chain

A water pump inside the engine ; just brillent when you know that a water pump is the first thing to go in a car. And before they break, they leak water , which in oil will destroy your engine in hours. This is a Niessen gift to America and is a gift that keeps on giving in Ford and all Niessen and a number of other popular car brands that sneak these engines into their shotty cars. A $6,000 dollar Bick lighter.

All the while, the government gives them tax credits to stay in business, so essentially tax payers are paying for inferior products before they even purchase anything. They file bankruptcy, shuffle paperwork, get more tax credits, and stay in business to make more 6,000$ bic lighters. I like Asian cars. They make better products all around.

Hi, good video and I believe the engineers at Dodge were trying to produce a sound vehicle because the water pump has weep hole port; however , the seal at the impeller is open to the crankcase and that seal is the weak link. Ford has the same set-up in the Durotec but without the weep hole drain outside the engine which become Fords big problem . Chrysler/Dodge Vans do not have this water pump set-up and the engines will go over 200,000 miles.

Every Chrysler engineer and design employee during the planning and production of these vehicles should be held accountable for their complete and utter incompetence. The consumer has had to pay blood, sweat and tears (let alone the money) for Chryslers fraud and deception for this gross negligence. If it was not fraudulent and deception on Chryslers part, then only pure stupidity could be the reason. And they should have to accountable for that too.
