Here's one from the category of games you never knew you wanted to see again - it's the 1-4 Panthers vs the 0-5 Redskins from 2001!
The '01 Redskins were absolutely awful - until, suddenly, they weren't.
The '01 Redskins under one-and-done Marty Schottenheimer started out abysmally, being blown out by 14+ points in their first 4 games followed by a dismal 9-7 Monday Night road loss to a team we don't mention in polite company. Along the way they jettisoned an ineffective (being charitable here) owner-picked starting QB, inserting late-edition Tony Banks (who joined after training camp and barely had time to crack the playbook). Combine that with the transition from nice guy Norv Turner to Marty Ball and Redskins Nation was in for a rough ride.
For three quarters, the 0-5 Redskins remained truly awful. And then, "suddenly" happened. "Suddenly" floated into the hands of Lavar Arrington, who raced down the far sideline for 67 yards with Redskin Redemption in his hands. "Suddenly" turned Tony Banks into a fourth quarter precision passing machine, turned Rod Gardner's hands from rubber to glue, turned 2001 into a season with some great memories to be shared after all.
This win kicked off an 8-3 run for the Redskins to finish out the '01 season (if only there were few more weeks, they might've made a wild card run, eh?), and capped off a 6-game winning streak for the 'Skins over the Panthers.
Kenny Albert and Tim Green drew the short straw to call this game, one that turned out to be unexpectedly entertaining in the end.
