Just changed the pads for the second time, this video has been very helpful - thanks for making it. The only issue I had was the caliper bolts were pretty stuck so I let some hot sauce soak into them.

Does the back brake pads work the same way? And do you have a video showing this?

the rotors appear scored on the video, do you think the rotors need to be replaced?

Yes, they were worn and had some scoring on them. I probably should've replaced them when I made this video, but I will probably just replace them the next time the pads need to be replaced. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Question: why didn't you bleed brakes? When is it, and when is it NOT necessary ?
@DantheFixitMan
@DantheFixitMan 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Oscar, Bleeding the brakes is only to get rid of air stuck in the lines, which should only happen when a hydraulic component of the system is leaking and/or has been replaced. It is recommended to change the brake fluid every so often by the manufacturer, and sometimes people refer to changing the fluid as 'bleeding the brakes' as well. Lots of videos on here on how to bleed the brakes, but not necessary when just doing a brake pad change. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Do I need to open the break fluid reservoir before replacing breaks So I can push in the caliper?

You can take the brake fluid reservoir cap off, but it is vented and not really necessary. Either way is fine. Just make sure it’s not too full so it doesn’t spill when pushing the caliper pistons back in. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

What is the wear indicator and is it necessary? I watched another video - it was not mentioned...

It is just a small metal piece that is clipped onto the edge of the brake pad. When the pad material wears down it will make contact with the rotor and make a noise letting you know that it’s time to change the brake pads. If you ignore it, or don’t have it installed properly, you may risk damaging the rotor with the brake pad metal backing plate. This can cause a loud grinding noise typically called “metal to metal”. I understand that the brake pad with the clip on wear indicator is supposed to be placed on the inside, however, does it matter whether it is placed on the top or bottom? Thank you!
