2001 Volvo V70 Turbo ETM Replacement 5 cyl 2.0 (also S80 01-06, S60 01-09 and V70 00-07)

Replacement and testing of a 2001 Volvo turbo ETM - This is the replacement of the ETM (Volvo's term for 'drive by wire) electronic throttle module. There is an extended warranty (10 yrs or 100k I believe) but this vehicle already had it replaced once (yellow label) and is over the 10 yr / 100k mile mark.
After replacing this with a new (pre-programmed) module and resetting every vehicle module - it runs great!
This is the 5 cylinder B5204T5 2.L straight five turbo in Volvo S80 2000-2006, S60 2001-2009, V70 2000-2007

Yeah, clearing the codes makes a huge difference. It's usually one of two things with it running like that. A bad ignition coil or an ETM issue. Usually the ETM issue is a bad throttle position sensor. The Xemodex (pronounced Zee Mo Dex) has a solid-state position sensor and they're awesome. My 2001 has almost 300,000 miles on it now.

Mine is doing that now. I don’t need to replace the entire thing huh? Just the throttle position sensor needs replacement correct?

Saga Roofing That’s Correct. It could be that it just needs to be clean. Trouble is you have to take it out with the ECM. I just decided to change mine in the process.

@@blakcherry329 true. Not cheap. But if you want to keep the car and keep it going it’s worth it. Sadly my ‘01’ hit a deer at 70 mph. Insurance totaled it. But it’s one of those things you have to weigh out if it’s worth the investment.

Did you know that the same ETM used Lamborghini and Maserati, Lamborghini had four ETMs

Did you Know that the Etm,s Were Discontinued from 2002 in 2002 they remodeled the Throttle body in all models so Volvo,s from 2002 to 2009 had different Throttle body so Change the Title to 00-02 for V70 And S60 and 98-02 on S80 I hope this helps take care

My V70 XC idles good but the triangle emergency light is on.??? Why is that??

You can buy the solid state sensor and install it to your old etm, much cheaper

I agree, that is the first thing to try. In this case though, I had cleaned and reset it prior to this replacement - unfortunately, that didn't work on this one but I agree, start with that first (much cheaper if it works!)
