This really was an historic game as it's the first game Brady showed he was not just a fill in but something special. Thanks for posting

@@PoleTooke maybe, but that 44-13 win over the colts 2 weeks earlier may have been it. Although that was probably showing more how good the team in 2001 would end up being i guess

exactly 20 years ago, so crazy. Two of the best at their postions, LT and brady i remember watching this game when i was 12 years old. my whole family are die hard charger fans from san diego. our defense was so bad that we made every qb look like a pro bowler. at the end of the game, right before brady goes on the game winning drive, i remember my dad saying "watch brady go down as the greatest qb of all time, and this is the start of it all" Crazy how right he was.

The Patriots crowd cheering & clapping here sounds kinda like the Cleveland Indians crowd cheering in "Major League" when the Indians started to play well. Not as thunderously loud as Gillette crowd yet, but is about to be come playoff time (the Raiders Snow Bowl game, last ever at Foxboro).

No truth to the rumor the NFL is using this game film as a tutorial to train referees how NOT to officiate a game. Although they certainly could, and probably should.

GAME WAS FAKE 1:54:34 Chargers actually take the lead in the 4th...but to avoid getting too far ahead the Charger place-holder just _refuses to place the ball_ for the extra point haha! This keeps the game within a field goal for Tom. (Expect weakling defense and super-soft zone coverage from the Chargers so that Tom can drive into scoring position.) Place-holders can also apply too much pressure to the ball while holding it for the kick, causing inaccuracy. Two ways of sabotaging a kick attempt when necessary. 1:58:13 This is getting interesting! After Tom misses two deep passes the Patriots punt but screw it up badly! Now the Chargers lead by two scores in the 4th! Obviously, there's *no way* they are beating the Patriots so the question is: How much _insane bullshit_ are we in store for? Should be fun to watch these Chargers bend over backwards to get Tom to the victory. [WARNING: IT GETS.... *REALLY* SILLY] 2:00:28 Patriot fans deserting the game! This is before the _Tom Brady is always going to win_ thing became apparent to them haha! They watched Tom in three games, already, and can see that he is not a very good QB. But once they realize that Tom somehow always wins _regardless_ of that, they will stick around!🙃 2:01:15 Now is the time for 'easy-mode' if Tom's gonna win this fake-ass game haha. Rather than bearing down and kicking Tom's scrawny ass, we see the Chargers in super-soft zone coverage to begin this drive. Their D-Line immediately looks weak and cannot stop the big gain on 1st down. 2:03:42 Facing 4th & 2 the Patriots just run off-tackle but easily make a 1st down. Chargers play soft zone and empty the tackle box as if to allow an easy conversion. 2:04:10 More super-soft coverage and *no pass pressure* on Tom! 2:05:38 Chargers don't cover Tom's RB! Even though Tom had JUST THROWN to the RB earlier in this _same_ drive! 2:06:10 We see the familiar fake edge-rushing! BOTH edge rushers run too far past Tom's pocket! And as usual, the Charger interior linemen *are weak* and incapable of pushing forward into the pocket. Tom has a perfect pocket. 2:06:33 Game announcer admits! Yes, the Chargers are *allowing these catches!* as he can see. This guy is pretty smart: He recommends that the Chargers apply pressure to Tom and cover Tom's receivers! Somehow I _really_ doubt THAT'S GONNA HAPPEN THOUGH HAHA! 2:07:36 Tom just lobs a ball *up for grabs* into _double coverage!_ This is not too brilliant. But as is always the case, Tom gets away with it! The Chargers just won't go up and get this easy pick! 2:08:56 Hey! How come the _Patriot_ place-holder can place the ball down for a kick haha? 2:13:15 Chargers run 3 times and fail to convert. But NOTICE what a difference! Remember when the Chargers just GAVE the Patriots a 1st down at 2:03:42 ? Look at the stacked tackle-box on this play: TEN Patriots are stacked over the line of scrimmage to stuff this run. Obviously, Chargers advertise their intent to run despite this. 2:13:36 On the replay, Chargers block pretty well...but Tomlinson just nose-dives into the ground! Is this guy _that weak?_ He lets one Patriot stop him cold haha! Even a slight extra-effort by LaDainian would have won the game! Chargers could make no effort to win the game by stopping Patriots on 4th down, and now can make no effort to fight for a couple of inches to win the game on offense! 2:14:32 We see the plot-convenience of a *big punt return* to give Tom great field position. One Charger just flies by and avoids tackling! Obviously missing on purpose! Refs assess a small penalty on the Pats but Tom still gets to start at his own 40! 2:18:58 Tom's last chance! We see soft coverage and edge-rushing too far beyond Tom's pocket. (You didn't think you were going to see effort by the Chargers, did you?) Tom is provided with two _completely uncovered_ receivers to pass to. 2:19:20 Game announcer says Chargers allowing Brady to complete passes. Recommends defensive coverage and stuff! 2:20:02 Gosh! Now we see the bizarre sight of THREE uncovered receivers! Almost *no visible signs* of Charger defense. Somehow, Tom still can't complete! Sooner or later Chargers just need to fall down and let Tom have the game haha! 2:20:40 Is I slippin' into the Twilight Zone? Chargers get EVEN SOFTER and rush only 3-men, now! Both edge-rushers *flee from Tom's pocket* as if a nest of hornets is stinging them! 2:21:08 With a *full minute* still left on the game clock, the Chargers continue to pretend that every play is some sort of last second, desperation play for the Patriots. Playing ultra-soft zone coverage and sending zero-man pass rushes (edge rushers fleeing from Tom's pocket and nose-guard too weak to apply any pressure). How could the Chargers think the field doesn't have to be defended? Can't they see that the Patriots have PLENTY OF TIME? 2:22:06 Announcer again explains that the Chargers are playing illogically. Recommends man-coverage. Uhhh, yeah no, that would *prevent Tom from winning!* 2:23:24 The absurdity of edge-rushing toward an imaginary quarterback who the Chargers apparently think is 5 yards BEHIND Tom Brady continues! Tom has Infinite Time and no coverage to contest his completion! Tom delivers a STRIKE to an undrafted Arena League football player who the Chargers cannot possibly cover! Is it _even possible_ to ignore the obvious need to pressure a *novice quarterback* and show him different looks in coverage? You'd *_swear_* the Chargers wanted Tom to drive down the field and score! 2:24:10 Announcer explains that Tom is totally un-pressured and that this is why he is essentially playing on 'easy-mode' (which he calls 7-on-7 practice drill). 2:24:22 Ohhhh, I seeee! Announcer says the Patriots missed an extra-point earlier. This explains why the Charger place kicker flubbed the hold: It was done to _even out_ this Patriot miscue. Bruh! No way *both teams* missed an extra point haha! Chargers were deliberately correcting the scoreboard so Tom could win. 2:24:43 Hahah! Time for the old fake hand-off where *all defenders* bite hard to allow Tom the Earth's easiest TD passes! This is one crazy way to get Tom to his 'victories'. Looking at it now, I'm amazed how I ever fell for this! (I admit it: I once believed the NFL was a real sport😖) 2:29:23 Huh? Doesn't the receiver get out-of-bounds to stop the clock? No? Announcer claims he was touched down inbounds? HAHA! Not! 2:31:39 Is the weirdness ever gonna stop? Charger's QB manages to FUMBLE the spike??? Yeah no, there is NO WAY IN HELL the Chargers are winning this game with a FG, _is there?_ Refs will keep the clock moving, Chargers will fumble a spike attempt. Doug Flutie been in the league for *94 years,* bruh! He know how to spike the damn ball haha! *OVERTIME* 2:38:26 We see the Patriots doing _exactly the opposite_ of the Chargers: Playing TIGHT man-coverage and applying immediate pressure. It's like they want to win the game, or something. 2:39:04 Patriots play tight man and deny any run-after-catch to set up third down... _WHAT_ do you suppose Patriots will call on the 3rd down? If you guessed TIGHT MAN COVERAGE you _may be right!_ 2:39:42 Are you PSYCHIC? _How did you know_ the Patriots would play very tight Man-to-Man coverage? AND apply *heavy heat* to the quarterback as well? Haha, yeah...basically this is _actual football._ Any team actually trying to win will be doing this most of the time. (When you see defenses playing soft prevent and no pressure on Tom, that's *all you need to know* to realize his games are fixed for him to win.) 2:39:58 On replay we see that the pass is dropped! ( _Did you think it was gonna be caught?_ ) 2:40:17 Charger punter #2 is also the place-holder that flubbed the PAT. _Now_ he punts short! Avoiding pinning Tom Brady deep! ( _Did you think he was gonna do that?_ ) 2:41:23 Chargers finally blitz! Tom gets off an up-for-grabs deep shot...And somehow un-drafted Arena League dude totally outclasses Charger #25, who fails to react to the incoming pass and prefers to fall down! Flag for Tom! ( _Did you think he wouldn't get it?_ ) Essentially it's a 'Fall Down' play to get Tom to his 'victory', with an insurance grab to allow a penalty flag in case the pass is dropped by Patton. 2:42:27 _Whaaaat?_ Charger know they lose if they allow anymore completions *yet play SOFT?* Tom makes an easy-mode complete to an uncovered receiver?? Explain _this one_ to me, Sports Fans! 2:42:50 Again with the 7-yard cushions? *How?* Wouldn't Chargers be _desperate_ to shut down Tom with tight man-coverage at this point? 2:44:06 This is truly amazing...we see that once upon a time an unblocked blitzer was allowed to clobber Tom Brady without slowing down or stumbling. Yeah! The Charger just absolutely punishes Tom! This would become *strictly illegal* as Tom's career progressed. (I hope they didn't kill this dude's family for hitting Tom!) *DAVID PATTEN* Tom's Very First Fake Star Receiver Undrafted in 1996. He competed only in the Arena Football League. Then failed to make any impact for the Giants and Browns before making his way to New England in 2001. The journeyman caught 51 receptions for 749 yards and 4 TDs. He added a touchdown in the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl. Patten had 61 receptions for 824 yards and 5 TDs in 2002. In 2004 he caught 44 balls for 800 yards and 7 TDs. Patten signed with the Redskins but finished the season with just 22 receptions for 217 yards. In 2006, Patten recorded one reception for 25 yards for the 'Skins.
