You forgot to put some oil on the filter gasket. It's VERY important to do that so you get a good seal between the filter and the block. Also, instead of fiddling to get a filter wrench in that small space, use a bottom adapter and use a 3/8" drive extension to loosen it. Works great and speeds up the filter removal.
@iamdjnam3 жыл бұрын
Great tips, I put oil but forgot to record it. Thanks for watching.
@calvinpryor2 жыл бұрын
I have a 2010 and the first time I changed the oil myself, I immediately went and got one of those "bottom adapter" filter wrenches aka "Cap Type" that fits on the bottom of the filter. That and an extension like you said, made the filter process waaaaay easier/faster. Highly recommended. And yes I do the oil around the filter gasket too. I just dip my finger in oil and run it around the gasket couple tree time

After I (finally) got the filter off that the last mechanic put on, I used a Motorcraft filter for which I had already bought the specific cap wrench (and 5 spare filters!) You get at it from underneath using a socket wrench + extension handle. MUCH easier than the ring-thingy 🙂👍

@@iamdjnam Yeah. The filter was a frustrating test of mental health and will power not to swear too loudly so's to disturb the neighbors or any clergymen who might pass by. Thought I was gonna go blind, have a carpel tunnel event and throw up at the same time under there till it finally came off. Then I dropped the oil cap down into the engine compartment. I still hate all models of ford expeditions, ford exploders, f-150 through f-350s. Doesnt mean i will not keep the the vehicles maintained but all i can say is ford and their "friendly" way of replacing lets say fuel filters and other things including the spark plugs are more complicated than they should be in comparison to other gm vehicles. Its more frustrating than my chevy and evo. I just got an 05 ford exploder and spent 3 months deep cleaning it from top to bottom removing every bit of the interior. The exterior i got new plugs and cables and all filters and new wheel hub bearings. Gotta tell ya flippin ridiculous lol. Anyway the fuel filter and the oil change is the last thing the car needs before its up and running. Your video was very good, descriptive and on point thanks for the upload xD.

@iamdjnam4 жыл бұрын
I can’t give you an answer because so many variables are different. Depends on what chain is making the noise, mileage, how hard it is driven, etc. Keep driving it until one day it’s so loud that you have to shut it off. You’ll know when that day comes....

Good vid, the only thing I'd add is to wear disposable gloves. Harbor Freight sells them super cheap. Easier personal cleanup, not to mention used motor oil is a carcinogen. Occasional exposure isn't an issue, but if your do it a lot....wear gloves.

Couple comments..... First a new drain plug is about 3 bux from a Ford dealership.they don't sell the rubber o-ring seperately. Get a new drain plug and only tighten it up to torque spec. Fastest way to get a slight oil drip is overtighten the drain plug. (it chews up the rubber o-ring.) Second, I didn't see it it your vid but take your finger dip it in some oil and just lightly slide your finger around the new filter gasket. And lastly the Oil filter is a lot easier to get at if you pull the back (rear) 3 push pins out of the inner mud flap and bend it back..you'll be looking right at the oil filter. The push pins can be removed and replace a hundred times if you are careful.Jack it up and take the wheel off...easy peasy.

Tedmc1 Thanks for commenting. I own 7 explorers and do enough oil changes to know my way around. I go from underneath the vehicle because my arms are small so I can reach it no problem. If I was some slob that couldn’t slide under the vehicle that’s a different story. I did put oil on the gasket, and on certain explorers the oil drain plug gasket is replaceable. My whole thought is why take the tire off if I don’t have to??
