Talk about a nostalgic intro. That's what I used to love about 2000's NBC. And Bill as the prerace guy and Allen, Benny, and Wally in the booth was a great combo.

* Final Championship for a Pontiac and Pontiac would find itself out of the series after 2003. * The final ride and fiery one for Jimmy Spencer in the 41. * The last time Ricky Rudd drove the 28, and the last time the 28 raced with Havoline on the side, it would move to the 42 team. Rudd would later drive the 88 for Yates. Last time the 28 ran with the Texaco Star as well. * The last race for Biffle with the Pettys. * Final race for the 2000-2002 Monte Carlo style which debuted in 2000, as well as the Pontiac Wide Track Grand Prix Model, all of the bodies would be almost identical the next year, * Final race for gas man Chocolate Myers working on pit road, he's the curator and caretaker of the RCR museum now. * Jamie McMurray's final run in the 40, he'd get a new team with Ganassi and after a stint with Roush, return to Ganassi where he remains today. * Last time Dale Earnhardt Inc. would run their paint schemes from 2000-2002 opting for a stylized E on the side in tribute to their late boss Dale Sr. * Final Race for the Conseco Team with Mike Wallace, as they would promote Larry Foyt to the Cup level the next year. * Kenny Schrader's last run with the M&M's colors as well as the 36 number which would change to 01 the next year. * Elliott Sadler's last run with the Wood Brothers and the last time the white and red 21 scheme debuted in 2001 was used. * Last time Cal Wells ran Fords. * Final time Kyle Petty would run the Adam Petty era Sprint colors, GP/Brawny would come on the next year. * Jack Sprague's first run with Haas, it would later become number 0. * Last time Kevin Harvick would run the Silver hood, Black tailed GM Goodwrench car.

When you had 3 gems like Alan, Wally and BP in the booth it was fun to listen too

Agreed… was much more enjoyable then. They tried to turn it into the wwe or the nfl with the dumb playoffs, trying to make every lap exciting, that’s not what racing is about…

This iteration of Homestead was truly a farce. It wouldn’t have survived without the reconfiguration in 2003. Can you imagine the outcry if social media was around then? 😆

Tony Stewart you have won a bonus check for $4,000,000.00 for winning the 2002 nascar Winston cup series championship! Congratulations!

I sometimes forget about Tony Stewart's first title. It didn't have anything that resonated compared to his other titles. 2005 had the Summer of Smoke- 5 wins in 7 races, among them the road course sweep, summer Daytona, and the Brickyard. 2011 had that 5 wins in 10 Chase races and the winner-take-all finish. Part of me sometimes feels like Smoke backed into this title with Marlin's injury and the Mark Martin/Jimmie Johnson Talladega pace lap debacle.
@day500champ158 жыл бұрын
It's hard to say he backed into it. With the exception of Rockingham and you could say this race, Stewart was one of the better finishers in the title hunt late in the season. Yeah, Marlin's crashes at Richmond and Kansas opened the door to some extent, and the Talladega pace lap gave him the point lead. But, Tony ran really well considering how he started the season.

The champion is the man who scores the most points from the first race to the last race.
@xSoccerxCorex4 жыл бұрын
because he basically did. he finished LAST in the 500 and between marlin's injury and that talladega crash, he was pretty much the first survivor across the line.

Marlin had it in the bag til his injury.
@TrinityRiverNetwork2 жыл бұрын
How about it this. He started the season last, and drove the wheels off of his car through all sorts of difficulty on and off the track to claw his way back to the title. Started the season at the bottom, and worked all the way to the top.

Golden benny killed all the popular drivers: Jeff Burton: Bristol: crashed (engine repair) Darlington: awarded GB Richmond: Frank fired (?) Jeff Gordon: Awarded GB in Richmond but engine problem Hendrick motorsports: Awarded GB in Talladega but all Hendrick drivers engine problems At Phoenix, BP tried to give GB to Johnny Benson jr's crew but running (escaping) for not getting unluck There (H-M) GB was gone, wrecked by himself (Benny Parsons) and Frank (99's crew chief) That was fun but Rip Benny 2007 I think the GB is a good luck for BENNY parsons, not for everybody else

Huh. The frame used as a display for this video is quite interesting... issue #2 ("Final lap red flags") was resolved within a year of this race, and issues #1 (Restrictor plates) and #3 (Aero-push) are still being debated\dealt with today. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
