2002 Subaru WRX autocross project - Everything that's wrong - Ep 2

I just bought a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX for my new track car! I'll be autocrossing and tracking it, but first I have to figure out everything that's wrong with it and fix it up. In this video, I walk through all the issues that I've found with the car so far, so you can see how far it'll (hopefully) come over the course of this build.

Brutal that it blow bottom end shame man i had a 2001 Subaru Forester s turbo manual SF5 i had it for 11,000 miles and 10 months it never broke down once was so comfortable too drive and I actually lost it too rot ! The read subframe half of it literally dissolved one night and the back end kept sliding out i managed too get it home but i sold it too a guy whos putting a wrx gc8 rear subframe on its local and i wanna buy it back

Those red shocks/struts look like KYB AGX adjustable units used as OEM on the WRX.

Those were used as OEM? Do you know what years/models that was on so I can research more?

@@NeverEndingProjectGarage I've seen some listed on ebay as JDM OEM, not sure how accurate that is. Listed for '02-'03 WRX (not sti). If you google 2002 subaru wrx oem shocks jdm you will see all the red ones in your search results. I'll do some digging and get back to you if I find anything.

@@NeverEndingProjectGarage Ok opened your video in 4k & the numbers became clearer. That's off a JDM Impreza WRX STi (GH-GDB model). That's the right front strut in your picture, Subaru part# 20311FE300 and KYB is the OEM (KYB part# 321002). 20311FE300 has since been superseded by later revision parts, 20311FE301, 20311FE3019L being the latest. They're available in other countries to but seem to be painted black. '04-'07 cars might require a spacer I think.

@@NeverEndingProjectGarage The rest could be any of these combos and depends on the spec car they came off: Right Front strut - 20310FE300 Left Front strut - 20310FE310 Right Rear strut - 20360FE300 Left Rear strut - 20360FE310 Right Front strut - 20310FE300 Left Front strut - 20310FE310 Right Rear strut - 20360FE840 Left Rear strut - 20360FE850 The springs are colour coded with dots and you need that to determine the part number as they also vary. forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=361244&page=12

Ah, ok. Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for. It's definitely those struts, and I'll figure out the springs later. So they're not AGX, but they're KYB OEMs. Aaaannnndd, I'm guessing they're blown. People speak highly about these struts, but the ride is terrible!

Just a heads up, but Gates now uses Chinese Bearings. Not 100% when they made the switch. If you’ve got time I’d confirm that your idlers are Japanese, otherwise throw that setup in the bin.

I dont know why you want to spend your money on how the car looks... Isnt that pretty pointless considering you're just bringing it to the track?

Not at all. I can take care of it so it's a pleasant car to drive, and then fix anything that breaks at the track. It's mostly going to be an autocross/HPDE car, not an endurance machine!
