I bought a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX for my new track car! In this video, the WRX enjoys its first and last track day....it threw a rod bearing and I sold it. Why so soon? Watch the video and find out?

@@NeverEndingProjectGarage As a note of reference did you put in the killah bee oil pick up or was it stock? Is that a mod that was allowed in your class?
@NeverEndingProjectGarage4 жыл бұрын
It was stock, and no that wasn't allowed.

its funny, your videos influenced my decision to buy a 02 blue bugeye wagon and im loving it so far! exhaust clip sounds like a vw vr6 of some sort maybe a mark 3 chassis?
@NeverEndingProjectGarage4 жыл бұрын
A blue bugeye wagon is what would get me back into one! That was always my favorite color/body.

Damn $7.5k into it but no motor work? Rough, I bought my 02 and immediately set it aside to pop a new motor in as it already was pretty loud on it way out at 193k. Will be about $5k in all for parts, new RA shortblock, and labor. Only other things really needed for me now are to fix the front axle and fr control arm
@NeverEndingProjectGarage2 жыл бұрын
I considered fixing it and building the motor to be stouter and have a better oiling setup, but that would move me out of street class. If I did that I'd need to also build the motor for more power, significant suspension upgrades, etc. If this was just for the street a motor upgrade might be worth it, but it would give me more problems than it would fix for autocross/track use and to be honest, the car's handling balance and powerband aren't that great. I'm an old-school Subaru fan, but it was definitely an economy car with a decent motor. I decided to go with something that would be a better fit for motorsports.

You should.. get another Spyder Not bias at all

If I ever get another, it'll need to be one that's already been 2ZZ swapped so I can try something new.

this sort of thing just happens sometimes. with gti, i guess you mean golf gti? i guess the new car is a golf of some sort. that'd be crazy though, going from MR to awd to FF... lol
@NeverEndingProjectGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes, my daily driver is a MK7 GTI. The new racecar isn't a GTI :-)
@lukejolley83543 жыл бұрын
That GTI is gonna suck on wet- slushy roads whereas the Impreza or Wrx will still kick ass. I guess it comes down to where you live and the local conditions🇨🇦
@NeverEndingProjectGarage3 жыл бұрын
Where do you live where you need AWD to drive on the regular roads? Snow tires will help more than the AWD. The GTI with its modern traction and stability control did great in the few snows we've had.

Did you jack up vehicle directly from under the oil pan? That probably caused damage to the oil pan/ pick up tube/ windage tray in there, one of the 3, hemce the oil starvation issues. Also the oil pan on early wrx's are known to cause oil starvation issues. Oil swishes in there during high "g" turns, unlike the sti pans.
@NeverEndingProjectGarage3 жыл бұрын
No I didn't jack it up by the oil pan, but yes swishing in a high-G turn did it.

@NeverEndingProjectGarage4 жыл бұрын
Probably. If I had a baffled oil pan with a better oil pickup, and overfilled by a half quart or so, odds are it would have lasted longer. But, it's an EJ - according to the internet they're all on borrowed time when they're tracked.

@@NeverEndingProjectGarage answered my question above except is that a legal mod in the class you were in.

No. And that's one of the reasons I decided not to do it - more info in the second half of the video.
