I grew up seeing going to Angels games in the 80s and 90s growing up in Southern California. Been a die hard fan forever. Was stationed in CO in the Amry for this series. I was working nights at the airfield at fort Carson (as an aircraft mechanic). D Had a radio at the hanger and listened to every game. Game 7 had aircraft flying to launch and recieve and had to occasionally run from the radio in the maintenance office to thw flight line. After I would do my duty I would run back to the office to sit at the small shitty radio to listen to the broken static of the game. Working with a bunch of guys and gals who couldn't care less about 2 California teams in the world series this series meant the world to me. We won game 7 and the next day I was off night shift. Such great memories of my young adulthood.

Such a storybook series. The fact that the Angels were the underdogs after starting the season 6-14, and were able to persevere in order to win the World Series against a team with the HR king and arguably one of the best hitters of all time, truly is an inspirational feat. Not to mention, that during 2002, the A's deployed their renowned "moneyball" strategy and enjoyed great success, Francisco Rodriguez established his prowess as a young reliever, and the historic game 6 comeback in the World Series. Such an amazing narrative to look back on, even 20+ years later.

What I remember about the Angels in 2002 (I'm not an Angels fan): 1- Sensational team offense = Win or lose, they had 10 hits or more in the game. 2 - Great bullpen, with Percival closing, and September call-up K-Rod doing damage, and all those guys. 3- Their starting pitching were nothing sensational, but they pitched quality starts each game, so they kept you in the game until the offense can take over and then their sensational bullpen can close it down. With all that said, it is unreal that this team won 100 games in that incredible elite division with Oakland and Seattle. And even though Texas had a losing record, they were not a walk in the park. If it wasnt for this 2002 season, the Angels would be known as a cursed franchise, due to all their September collapses in the 1980's and 1990's, along with their postseason heartbreaks collapses in 1982 and 1986, and barely making the postseason since they started in 1960 I think What always surprised me about this 2002 Angels is that in 2003 the Angels were a bad team, finishing with a losing record. Like, I expected you to compete in 2003 since youre still a team that mostly had players in their prime or were young, so I have no idea what happened to them in 2003.

The 2000's was a largely sucky decade in a lot of ways... but not in baseball. The World Series of that entire decade were spectacular, even the sweeps. 2001, 2002, 2003 all went seven. We saw FIVE teams make their first ever world series (D-Backs, Angels, Astros, Rockies, Rays), the Red Sox, White Sox, and Phillies all break their extended titleless streaks, and some unbelievable players and moments. In the ten world series from 2000 to 2009, we saw 14 seperate teams make the world series, almost half the entire league. Wow.

I wasn't able to get WS tickets, but I was extremely grateful to have been there in person to witness erasing the heartaches of my childhood (1982 and 1986). Hugging and high-fiving strangers and being near-deaf from the thunder sticks, and shouting, "Let's go ANGELS!" All the way back down the ramp and out to the parking lot, with my brother, sister, and dad with me, was an experience that I will never, ever forget. I am so thankful they went on and finished the job. 82 and 86? I don't even remember you anymore.
