Quick tip: Do make a photo of the big belt before you remove it so you know how it goes round all them rolls... especially when you got a friend over to chat. It is then way easier to recall how it was put on... trust me. And don't ask me how I got this idea :D

Thanks for sharing! Very clear and to the point. Just as an FYI, the hex socket you use (3:43) to take off the serpentine belt doesn't work on my 2002 325i. I believe a T50 is needed.
@JWong939610 жыл бұрын
Mine is 8mm, not the T50. Mine is 2005 325i, guess different years using different tools.
@saudade27455 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I found the Top aux belt tensioner is easier with a 16mm socket at the left side rather than a t50 in the centre. Also I believe the fan removal applies to manual cars only. I did my auto 330 petrol e46 today and the fan is bolted to the water pump. Required a 32mm open spanner and a whack clockwise to release. There is a recommended tool to hold the shroud in order to loosen the nut but a sharp whack to the spanner did the trick. Re assembled same method.

This is true, manual e46s have the single eletrical fan, if you have an automatic it's a good idea to do the double fan delete and use the same fan manuals come with. Less chance of having the blades destroy your engine bay, and you never have to deal with taking that fan blade on/off again

great tutorial, everything was apt l spot on, only thing I didn't have to do was loosen the ac tensioner, but i'm working 2002 so maybe just a little difference in the years

Hello everyone. To clarify some things in the comments below a hex and a Torx bit can both work in the same fastener but one will usually strip out the other. They both have the same hexagonal shape when you look at them closely. But as always try to use the correct tool for the correct job and you won't destroy the fastener another word stripping the whole the tool goes in. I do believe originally there all torx bits but not sure what size goes where as the one on my car is also stripped I could be wrong but I've seen it more times than not. Happy wrenching

Thanks for the video. In the video I see there is enough room for you to put the entire arm in when removing the AC belt. Since there is so much room after removing the fan. I am wondering if it is really necessary to remove the bottom cover of the car for this job? I am comfortable to do everything you described in the video except I don't have a safe way to lift the car to remove the bottom cover. I love to do this myself. But if the bottom cover needs to be taken off, I guess I must send the car to the dealer. Please advise.

I notice on a lot of videos they always replace the pulleys is this necessary? Thanks!
@double_c11576 жыл бұрын
Basically, it's such a pain to get in there, and the tensioner pulley goes bad anyway, so you might as well replace it!! 2 birds with 1 stone.

+Jim Vitek My E46 don´t even has a torx screw there... it has a hex screw ;-)
@JimVitek8 жыл бұрын
+Smoke187 Both torx & hex are needed. The tensioner for the large belt loosens via the hex screw. The tensioner for the smaller belt is loosened with a T60 torx.
