I got my 99 Ranger XL handed down to me from my Grandpa after he passed away for my first vehicle when I was 15, and I babied it and loved upgrading parts and modifying it. It's a complete work truck, all manual windows and locks, plastic everything but it had low miles and 4x4 and it never failed me once. I used it for my own junk removal and hauling company, fit four people in it even though it only had jumper seats in the back and 2 doors, went mudding in it and got it stuck a few times. Nothing broke ever. I thought about selling it time and time again but I couldn't I had too many memories of it and it meant a lot to me. I A couple months ago I got into a accident and rear ended a car and ended up in a ditch with the whole front bumper bent in, the hood and fender messed up really bad. The tow truck driver came out and used his winch to pull out the bumper and i was able to drive it back home. Nothing mechanically was broken and I still drive it everyday and I have an appointment to get it fixed by a body shop. I've definitely put more money into it than what it's worth but idc I love it

Keep it as long as you can. @ 53 years of age I could kick myself for not hooking on to something and keeping it. I get tired of things and move on during the time and to look back and think what a fool I am. They have way too much complexity in the new overpriced trucks. Spray fluid film under it to keep rust at bay and hang on to it.

Everyone always hates on the 3.0 v6, I like how you actually pointed out the upsides of it, I own a pest control company and we’ve had 6 rangers, one with the 3.0L is at 540,000 miles, and another is at 360,000 miles. The 2.3s seem to be good for about 200,000 miles. I absolutely agree they are not the fastest motors but the 3.0 is damn near indestructible! This generation was truly a perfect work truck, the new ones are too expensive and I don’t trust a turbo to last in the long run.

I guess I should specify, all the rangers I have owned have been 3rd generation models, I am not surprised to hear that your 2nd gen 2.3L is at 400k miles, as I would not be surprised that they made the motors more robust back then. Both the 2.3 L Duratecs I had, developed issues with either the head or the valves right around 200,000 miles

I have a 2004 Ranger Edge with the 3.0. I remember walking around the local Ford dealership back in 2004. I remember seeing the truck with it’s beautiful red paint. Then I asked my dad “can this be mine one day?” He said yes, and fast forward 11 years later, she’s mine. With 120,000 miles on it, I plan on keeping it for ever. If the engine goes out I’m going to V8 swap it.

I got my 2000 ford ranger (4.0 V6 5spd manual 4x4) from my grandma as a graduation gift. It's my baby, I learned how to drive stick and and how to drive in general in it. It has served my family longer then I've been alive. It was and still is my first car, I had my first fender bender in it and had to rebuild it with my dad, got my first speeding ticket, and my first real off roading experience in it. It is a part of me and always will be.

I have a 2004 Ranger Edge extended cab. I bought it new after my '85 Ranger bit the dust. It looks almost identical to the one in your video. I like it very much, even though I have a couple of complaints. It has only 32,000 miles on it (I'm retired and don't get out much,) but I have already had to have the fuel pump replaced ($744) the day after I got home from the hospital with a broken hip. I had to have it towed to a shop (another $125.) I would have done that job myself, but the hip wasn't having any part of that. It also has one or more ball joints squeaking and clunking. It's been a little over 2 months since I broke the hip, so I think I'll be able to do that job myself in a couple more weeks. Good time to replace the brake pads, too. Other than those two issues, I still love to look at it and drive it.

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger XLT Extended Cab 4 Door with the same transmission and engine. It currently has over 240,000 miles and to this day, I have never had to add any oil between oil changes. The transmission is the same 5 speed automatic and it still shifts and operates like it should with no oil leaks. It has a Leer shell on the back that is color matched to the truck, Desert Tan I believe is the color. Knock on wood, this is the perfect truck for me and at my age,72, I'm not looking to replace it. Oh yeah! The AC will run you out of the truck! If you take care of one of these little trucks and don't abuse it, I'm convinced they will just about run forever.

I have a 2003 Edge + Supercab with the 3.0 and a 5-speed manual. It originally had the 5R44E Automatic, but that blew up at around 78,000 miles, which was unfortunate but I believe it was due to previous owners and not Ford. I swapped the truck to a manual and never looked back. Anyways, I bought the truck with 42,000 miles back in 2010. Still have it today, still drive it almost every day, and she's now at 193,000 miles. It's been one hell of a truck, and I don't think there's anything else I want. I like my trucks basic, and the Ranger fits that bill perfectly. As for your review, you missed a few things such as that factory 6-Disc CD Radio (They were premium, even though they're known for breaking), and you kept mentioning 4 cylinders when they were not an option on the Edge trucks. Also, the oil pressure gauge is worthless on almost all mid-80's to late 2000's Ford trucks because it's just a switch that reads at half scale as soon as the switch sees 4 psi of oil pressure. In a low oil pressure scenario, by the time that gauge moves, your engine is already toast from being starved of oil.

I had a 2001 Ranger that I bought for cheap off my brother. It was a 2.5L I4, 5-speed, 2wd, regular cab with the 6' bed. Before I bought it, he had drove it for 40K+ miles, fixed some things, ignored other problems, swapped axles from the stock 7.5" dinky unit to an 8.8" with 4.10 gears. When I bought it, it was sitting at around 180K+ miles. I lifted the front too much (oops), had a mutual friend of ours weld the rear gears (Lincoln Locker?) and put some 15" Jeep Wrangler wheels with 30" tires on it. We used it on the Gambler 500 in 2020, and that thing did a fantastic job! A little cramped for someone of my height, the clutch was messed up and engaged WAY too high and it had little to no power. But, it hardly ever got stuck off-road! It helped me to fall in love with this platform! I sold the truck and eventually bought a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer V8 to serve as my off-roader. It addresses all the shortcomings of the Ranger, and performs even better off-road! In short, great little truck that served as a gateway drug for more of these vehicles!

Learned to drive on my dads gray 2011 sport 4x4 with the 4.0 V6, automatic, Supercab, vinyl floors, bucket seats and all the bells and whistles (like a vinyl floor and power windows ooooohh.) Several years later I inherited my grandfathers 08 XLT 4.0 4x4 supercab almost everything is the same except its white, has regular cloth floors, a bench seat and best ofall it has a manual tranny and no rust because it was from Florida. It’s in much better shape than my dads lol. 2 years later I’m just as obsessed and in love as when I first got it! My dads ranger was already cool in my opinion but with the big ol stick shift and the bench seat it makes it feel more vintage and badass and it’s definitely more fun to drive around in! Also the 4.0 V6 feels like a rocket ship when compared to the 4 cylinders

I got an 05 Edge Extended Cab a couple of months ago. I’m in the process of modifying it. It’s a 2wd, but being the Edge, it has the 4wd torsion bar suspension so I’m planning on giving it a small lift. I’ve already added a touch screen radio and halo projector headlights. I’ve got several other smaller things planned for it as well. I was wanting a full size truck when I got it, but truck prices are nuts these days, so I’m gonna mod this one and hang onto it for a while and probably then move on to a full size. I do appreciate the simplicity of the Ranger though. I feel like I can actually work on this thing.

These are some of the best trucks ever made even though I’m not a fan of the junky & gutless 3.0L engine. 10:09, as for the interior, it’s really not that bad & is actually pretty well put together overall. These still have a much better interior than all of its competitors did at the time, plus Ford interiors often tend to stand the test of time unlike the crap from GM & Chrysler.

I woke my little thundering three up with a CAI and a tuned exhaust, and a mild Thornton tuning chip. It'll never win any races, but it's sure as hell fun to drive now. It's done everything I've ever asked of it, including towing my three thousand pound 20' galaxy runabout. I kinda had to plan my stops and lock out the overdrive, but it never had any problems getting up the ramp. I intend to drive it til it drops or I do, whichever comes first! The best part is, it's paid for!

It was back in 2002 I bought a 1999 ranger and it had the V6 and its V6 was an all cast iron engine. It had the chrome step things on sides and chrome wheels just loke the one in the video. Now it had chrome front and rear bumper. It was very tough and dependable. I rarely drove it because I was addicted to my 89 cadillac brougham and still am today

I currently have a 96 Mazda B3000 which is more plain than this Ranger. Mine has no cupholders no passenger airbag, and the 4x4 is floor shift with lock hubs which wasn't common by those years. Also it came with the plain steel rims which I painted white to match the truck. Other than this Mazda, I had an 84 Ranger and a 93 Ranger XLT. I highly recommend these trucks.

The new rangers aren’t like this. They’re like cars now. I prefer this, the long bed, front bench seat and column shifter. It should be a farm vehicle like this. Reguardless is nicer to me.

Got a 1996 ford ranger 3.0 4x4 as my first truck. Had 101k on it when I got it and now has 154k. I have gotten it burried in a creek over night, driven it through a foot of snow, hauled a 12 foot trailer loaded down with stuff countless times, and hauled a 2500lb boat countless times. The truck took care of me for my last 3 years of highschool and took me to my first job. She is still going strong and I plan to keep her forever.

I just got a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge, super cab with a V6 and 5 speed manual. It however is not my first Ford Ranger, that would be my 1972 Ford Ranger F-150. And like that truck, this one two is very basic. Trucks back then weren’t just built to last, they was built to work. And we didn’t call them Cowboy Limousines back then, like Dodge did with their 1999 Dodge Quad Club Cab 3500’s. Back then they was often cold natured, yet never failed to start on even the coldest day. And you could drive those old 1970’s Ford Rangers half way across Texas, with a blowed head gasket and clogged radiator and it wouldn’t leave you on the side of the road with a faulty injector pump.

We had a 2003 with low mileage that constantly broke down, possibly from sitting for too long. I daily a 2008 with 236k miles. It runs like a top, but has terminal rust issues. Both were 4.0 V6s with the 5 speed auto, ext cab, and 4wd. The bigger V6 has plenty of power, but terrible traction without weight in the bed, even by pickup standards.

They were way ahead of their time. I have a 2001 blue edge standard cab 3.0 with 130k. It runs rides and gets the same fuel mileage as it did when I bought it in 2008. They keep their look well for 20 years. Ford used quality paint. But the sheer age of 20 the fuel pump went from years of ethanol and plastics are starting to dry out from age. And could use a transmission overhaul for worry free mileage in to the 200s. It has the 5R55E not the problematic 5R44E. The truck in this video will "EASILY" make it to 2030 or beyond and still look the same if taken care of.
